Let me be honest, and no disrespect intended: I didn't really get into Mortal Kombat until Deception, Armageddon, and 11 where a few of my favorites are Terminator, Erron Black, Spawn, Robocop, Ceterion (voiced by Ghost In The Shell's Mary Elizabeth McGlynn), Shao Kahn and lastly (damn! I cannot resist her) Sindel. ...and now every time I play MK11, the feeling of being in an arcade has always been on my mind. Still, the classic fatalities in the old games are legendary while the recent ones are, in Jim Ross' words: Absolutely vicious, vile, and ungodly!

Say what you will about the graphics, at least the gameplay of the Mega Drive version is still tight. It also has four full extra stages compared to the SNES version, with one of them containing a stage fatality. In ways, I like these fatalities more than the arcade version. Since the Mega Drive can only render so many bones, the explosions don't feel quite as stupid. Also, for anyone new, this version of the game has no Animalities. They were removed and replaced by Brutalities for storage reasons (the additional characters), along with Sheeva and the Shao Kahn announcer voice clips. If you want to see those, look at the fatalities of MK3, not UMK3.

The Fatalitites aside, it's a different time. Friendships and Babalities were a response to the negative press the first game got for it's gore. By the time of MK Trilogy and MK4, no one cared about the gore anymore. It had become normal so they removed Friendships and Babalities. Friendships were hilarious. They should be brought back
