I would have bought this in a heartbeat had it been released on the Dreamcast. It's got that PSO vibe in terms of look and sound. I would have definitely had fun playing this.

To be fair, I'd probably buy it right now if they released it on one of the modern consoles.

Great job on the capture. As per a previous discussion, I came here expecting amazing graphics as well. I am impressed for this board for coming out in 2000, but this looks and certainly doesn't feel like the original. Nore does it even come close to the article that claims it's beautiful. It's not. The game is ugly, but it's just pumping a lot of brightly lit shaded polygons. To channel my inner Yoda: "This does not a beautiful game make"

Charles McNeil For a 2000 arcade game it does look pretty good.

What an awful looking game compared to the original.

How so? Planet Harriers had the most technically advanced graphics of 2000 (with its powerful Sega Hikaru arcade system board pulling off Phong shading, 1024 lights per scene, particle effects, fire effects, smoke, fog, alpha clouds, falling leaves, lots of enemies on screen, etc.), just as its predecessor Space Harrier did back in 1985. While the original Space Harrier's colorful art design may have arguably aged better, Planet Harriers still has a more colorful art design than most other 3D games of that era.

It was generic rubbish compared to the original, without the title this and Space harrier could be totally unrelated. The original wowed arcade goers at the time with a great new concept this one is so far removed from the first that it doesn't deserve the name, graphics hardware don't come into it, great graphics do not a great game make.

METAL1ON I thought you were talking about graphics. If you mean gameplay, then I agree the original Space Harrier had better gameplay to go along with its great graphics. But a lot of great-looking games often have mediocre gameplay, with Sega being one of the few companies who consistently combined great graphics with great gameplay. By the way, when did you play the game?

According to IGN in 2000, Planet Harriers was "the fastest, most intense 3D shooter ever crafted". It wasn't just a graphical powerhouse, but had great gameplay as well, just like the original Space Harrier.

IGN is not what I would call a credible source, but then again I have never played it only watched it. Given the choice I would prefer the original to play though.
