I'm sure you've probably mentioned this on twitter or the like but, in current-year retrospect, Sonic and Knuckles Collection is even MORE fascinating with the context that some of the pc-ified soundtrack is taken from early prototype builds of the original game, before all the guest-musician shenanigins took place.

There's this interview with one of the developers responsible for the port of Sonic CD, and on how his team managed to port the game to Windows before Windows gaming was mainstream and DirectX was a thing. It's a really fascinating read: www.sonic-cult.org/dispart.php?catid=1&gameid=5&subid=2&artid=2 (Initial releases of Sonic CD for the PC didn't use DirectX, though the more common later releases do)

Sonic R is my very first Sonic game and the reason I got into Sonic games. I fucking love it. What other racing game has you racing _on foot_ (though ironically it's the slowest characters who cheat and use vehicles) on rollercoaster or marble run style tracks, one of which (Radical City) appears to take place inside a Pro Pinball Timeshock cabinet? (Besides Mad Dash on the original Xbox I guess) The only thing I don't like about it is that is has not enough tracks, not enough characters (though it does at least have a fair amount) and it doesn't have the Saturn's special effects, such as the translucent crystal effect on the track Radiant Emerald (the Sonic version of Rainbow Road) though I would have loved both the Saturn track combined with the PC version's trippy colored lighting for that track. What it does have however is very good, so it's short but very sweet like a piece of baklava.

Mini nostalgia-gasm when I saw the sonic and garfield pack. It was the first PC game I owned that wasnt my dads. Thanks for the nostalgia man :)

I first played Sonic CD on Windows 95 as I didn't own a Sega CD (MegaCD) until much more recently. Brought back some cool memories as well as playing Sonic on a keyboard frustration. Cool video!

holy shit Garfield ripped so hard off of Gex, they're almost identical games

Gex is best 2d platformer ever.

I'm glad I'm not the only one to notice that. Garfield: Caught in the Act was only eight months after Gex, so it's difficult to say if they really did copy.

4:54 The theme for Daytona USA Deluxe sounds sort of like a Crush 40 song from a Sonic game.

Eric Martin from MR.BIG, Sega's music are always related to rock.

Yeah, I was pretty outraged by Crazy Taxi's soundtrack on the PC, I found a converted that converted MP3s to the file used in Crazy Taxi, and put The Offspring and Bad Religion back in.

How can anyone not love the Sonic R soundtrack? It's the most '90s thing there ever was, and it's glorious!

I lived near Daytona for a time and I can confirm that that Intro music played everywhere all the time 24/7 even when you were not near a device that played it Maybe it was all in my head... Oh shit, its starting again! :S

So much nostalgia. I had Sonic & Knuckles Collection, Sonic 3D Blast, and Sonic R on PC back when I was a kid.

Man hearing those Baku Baku sound effects and music is pure nostalgia for me. I wasn't a huge fan but my parents would always be playing it against each other on the Saturn. It was like the soundtrack to my early teens. Before they moved onto other similar puzzle games.

Who else started singing the Super Sonic Racing song immediately when they saw the Sonic R box?
@asmcint7 жыл бұрын
I don't know if the soundtrack was the same or not, but I actually did once come across a perfect version of Crazy Taxi on PC. It was some shady file-sharing stuff, but it ran really well on my dinky little Gateway Pentium 3 machine, and it had all the branding intact. I think it may have actually been a self-contained arcade emulator with a pre-launch options menu? I dunno for sure, it's been 11 years now. Had a blast with it though.

Well, as Clint also said in his review of the game, you could easily replace the music in the PC port (drag and drop to folder easy).

Sega PC games - indeed quite a few of these I played on the PC. EGA / CGA / VGA gaming when it was the most modern way to play those games! Thanks for showing this. Altered Beast, I even played a version of Outrun on the PC. The 90's stuff is amazing as well. Played a ton of these.
