I think the big problem is that after he learned to accept himself for who he is, and remembered his promise to Maria, Sega didn't know what more to do with him. They tried to focus on playing into his edginess, which originally took a back seat to his different approach to heroism from Sonic, and that just him not much more than a one liner machine, a cheerleader, or in some cases, a total jerk. I think they're trying to fix it now, but it still feels like he's regressed back to only caring about Earth snd humanity because Maria made him promise to. When he already learned to care because that's what heroes do. Hopefully, they'll fix it in the next game with a story focused on him, whenever that is.

I remember that in a Sonic Channel 2021 Calendar series, they did address this. Shadow by this point was just doing some work, and Sonic continued to prod at him. He even felt that it was weird that Shadow suddenly started caring about strangers, with Shadow explicitly stating that he doesn't care about the people, he just hates when someone does something without caring about what happens to others, such as Eggman's schemes. Though he said he's done, he still sometimes looks at the ARK with a bit of sadness, though. In a way, they have an interesting story that just needs to be implemented in a game. Shadow by the end of his mainline game basically said he's over his past, but then that kind of story... It makes for an interesting thing where Shadow, even though he says he's done, he can't quite run away from his past. He tries to put the past to bed, but still has memories of someone he cares about and tries to not address it, and instead just sets up wall after wall to try to just say he's over it. A story that focuses on that, I think it would be interesting, and could finally put a nail in the coffin of "Shadow should focus on his Maria wish" versus "Shadow's done with the whole ARK incident"

Except SEGA changed that, by end of Last Story in his game, he complete forgets Maria entirely, holding a photo of her and Gerald on the Ark then says "Goodbye Shadow The Hedgehog" before turning around and discarding the photo and walk away.

Just know Shadow 05 is an alternate outcome to SA2 where we see a Shadow suffering a Tramautic Brain Injury from the fall which has him lose Chaos Control and Chaos Spear but he gets them back, he only survived because Super Shadow and why Super Shadow? Idk why I have to say why honestly since people understand Super Sonic but Nigh Invulnerability. Last Story of his game is where he becomes who he is, is accepted by G.U.N. and over the past in 06.

I'm lost most of what you said didn't make much sense, 1 shadow didn't lose chaos control the characters all say shadow could still do it fine and shadow does it in gameplay just fine. 2,what does he only survived couse super form mean are you referring to shadow surviving the fall couse that didn't have much to do with the super shadow and more of eggman getting him and giving him back his inhibitor Ring which sonic had as eggman says this in the final boss, and if your referencing the final boss shadow didn't go through any trouble their. 3, accepting what gun thought of him um they blamed shadow for the raid and viewed him as no more then a weapon. also the entire final story was shadow leaving his past behind him it was him leaving his inner conflict behind him which meant dark shadow and hero shadow no longer had conflict

7:55 Apparently, the next Sonic game won't be a full budget one, only being described as as long as Forces ect. However its also leaked that Shadow will play a major role in that game. Mabye thats why he couldn't answer the question

yeah i agree most games do shadow pretty dirty and to make it worse theirs games like sonic chronicles and sonic battle that have shadow equal to greater then sonic and he still does nothing and gets pushed away, even then in heros itself is isn't consistent couse on one hand you have team dark being near equal to team sonic and on the other hand you got metal madness saying "even the ultimate life form can't stop me" even though the entire final boss metal was saying he's surpror to sonic and everyone else was nothing to him.. so is shadow toupher then sonic their or not?. also the end of shadows game was more of shadow puting his own inner struggle to rest it was him no longer careing for the past and what others wanted him to be so he left it all behind him, to put it short hero shadow and dark shadow the forms from shadows game are like a ☯️ to shadows wuji 2 full opposites that fights couse their opposites yet complete each other and can become the other while shadow was the wuji couse he's nothing rather someone searching for warmth for a reason rather that be going down dark shadows black hearted evil path what Gerald wanted or hero shadows brave hearted hero path what maria wanted,but in the final story shadow Shadow left all this behind him so dark shadow and hero shadow no longer had conflict with each other and shadow himself no longer had a inner conflict
