I finally got my hands on a Sega Saturn, and get down and dirty with this beast.
Full teardown and clean up, to restore it back to how it should be.

1995 - £399 for the console at launch 2023 - see inside and how cheap it looks but hardware back then was expensive. Its issue was its design Sega America argued with Sega Japan alot. And couldnt make any decisions on it, it ended up having 2 seperate graphics chips 2D and 3D. Devs had to remove either to work on them at one time it couldnt switch between the 2 via software

The Saturn I got second hand about a decade ago did have something in the expansion slot in the back. It turned out to be an mpeg cart allowing movie playback in the Saturn (Video CD). The cartridge port on top can house ram expansions and cheat cartridges - there's replay cartridges that provide extra RAM, cheat but also region free booting without the need for a mod of any kind. Pretty sweet way of booting my Japanese Saturn Shmups! :)

The Saturn, Playstation and Dreamcast really have a lot of similar design features don't they!
