"LucasArts" didn't make a follow up to Tera Kasi, but we at the Collective took it upon ourselves to do so and sneak it into the EP3: Revenge of the Sith game. Even though we were already pulling 14 hour days, 6 days a week, a few of us spent our "spare time" to create the dual mode, arenas, balance characters and create an unlock schedule integrated into the rest of the game.

2:13 Capcom actually was making a Star Wars fighting game and pitched it to Lucas Arts. Lucas Arts turned it down, we got Master of Teras Kasi and Capcom released Plasma Sword, which is superior in every way, and even has a character who is clearly Chewbacca with a different name. Plasma Sword is (aside from losing the license and characters) the only good Star Wars fighting game. That is what we could have had, but Lucas Arts turned Capcom down, which, apparently they didn't realize who they were dealing with? Because who makes better fighting games than Capcom ?

The worst aspect of the PlayStation era, for me at least, is the realization that developers could’ve made the absolute best 2d games anyone had ever seen (rayman, sotn) and yet every series focused on horrible looking polygons that make the majority of these games absolute eye cancer these days

These games belong in your memory. Your brain is the best upscaler in the world. Like when I played FF7 Rebirth on the PS5 and saw the throwback to the PS1 graphics... in my mind they were the PS1 models... thats how my mind remembers how the game looked like when I played it in the late 90s... @goosebogey I would rent it as a kid and when returning it, I would be excited for the next time that I could play it. Sega Lord X is awesome, but I just can't agree on this one. Even if I were to play it now and not like it, the fact is that I loved it as a kid and that is what matters. There are games that people want it to appeal to everyone, but they aren't all going to accomplish that. I know that at the end he acknowledged that people could see differently to him, but what he said about Ninja: Shadow of Darkness just made it look like it isn't for anyone when that simply isn't true.

Small Brawl was built for kids. David Goodrich worked on the game and talked about it in a few interviews here on KZbin, saying that Sony thought older kids would get PS2s and their younger siblings would get hand-me-down PS1 consoles. Think I may have an answer to why Twisted Metal had a tiny cutesy spinoff, there was a trend of using “chibi” or cute versions of otherwise “serious” franchises, including Virtua Fighter Kids and Pocket Fighter for the Street Fighter franchise. This may have been an attempt at capitalizing off that.

If you still have a copy of Alien Resurrection, there is a secret feature where you can play imports and backups of PS one games on your system. After inputting the level select codes and holding the correct buttons, you will be able to swap the game out for an import or backup, then you will have to press the next buttons correctly to launch that game. Alien Resurrection never came out in Japan, but I think the way of launching imports and backups on that game has something to do with how the western PS one consoles unlocked the disc drive to allow off-region and non-genuine PS one game discs. This same technology would have been used for the TonyHax application, though it requires setup on a PS2 with uLaunchElf running, and requires the appropriate software needed to launch TonyHax, like THPS2-4 (Create-a-skater roster exploit, where TonyHax gets its name), Crash 2 or Warped (Backup menu exploit), XS Moto, Castrol Honda VTR, Tekken 2 or 3 (Greatest Survivors ranking screen exploit), Castlevania Chronicles, or even Final Fantasy IX.

Alien Resurrection and Driver 2 are technically quite impressive, Final DOOM wouldn't bother console gamers that didn't have PCs, as most didn't have a clue if this version had cut content. As for Driver 2's difficulty, it's like arcade games, really, you mess up, you lose it, but it's not THAT hard, you just have to try a few missions over and over. I just wish developers had realized the potential the game has with its free-roaming gameplay and the possibility of driving almost any car available. As a side note, this game was ported to PCs with ReDriver 2, the performance and the cleaned up visuals more than make up for the console's shortcomings, but even so, the game is still great to this day, even on its original form. One thing that has to be said here, though, is that many games on this list would be seen on a much better light, had they come to the Saturn, I mean, there are no Star Wars games on the Saturn, no Alien Resurrection, no Driver, no Harry Potter, no Ninja and no Twisted Metal. I understand that the video is about letdowns and I don't disagree with your points at all. And, speaking of letdowns, I remember my young teenage self at 12 and 14 reading magazines covering 80% PS1 and 20% N64 in late 1998 onwards, where was Shining Force 4 for the Dreamcast, Street Fighter III for the Saturn, Pandemonium 2 for the Saturn, Croc 2, Tomb Raider 2 and 3 for the Saturn, and on and on, this was a big letdown, but with all that, it made me look at all games released for the Saturn from 1998 and back and enjoy and discover many games it already had. Believe me, a regret I don't have is spending years enjoyed all the Saturn had to offer. It only saddens us that the console just didn't reach its true potential. Virtua Fighter 3, Shenmue and a polished and finished Burning Rangers without any rush would bring tears to us fans. Still, after all that, my brothers and I played the PS1 for many years well into the mid 00's. Just a brilliant console, the 5th generation was the best for me and the most transformation the industry ever had since.

I am a huge defender of PS1 Doom but you are absolutely correct about PS1 Final Doom. The former tries very hard to not feel like you are getting a lesser product than the PC version by adding unique levels and completely changing the sound and lighting which serves to create a very different experience. I've always said that PC Doom feels like an action shooter whereas PS1 Doom feels like a horror game. But Final Doom fails to build upon this concept despite having a whole year to do so, it has no unique levels, and just generally feels rather low effort. I don't think it is necessarily a bad game, but it is a disappointing one.

I will stand on the table for Alien:Resurrection. Playing that in HD on duckstation with save states was an absolute blast. I also think Driver 2 and GameDay '98 are a lot of fun.

I was a bit shocked you included ALIEN Resurrection :( But I completely understand your reasoning and in a way agree... it could of been so much more if it were a bit more accessible. I own an original copy on black label PAL & even on a CRT with a PS2 controller, and cheats turned on its a sadistic game lol. Worse than Tomb Raider 3 actually for its difficulty. Pity, because it's also one of the most impressive games on the PS1 regarding technical achivement and runs with unlocked frame rates.

Small Brawl is odd. Whats even odder, its running on the Black engine. Which is bonkers.

I remember having hundreds of PS1 games when I was a kid but never had these titles you've listed. Maybe my father has good taste of games but I remember having trouble liking that Batman and Robin game.

Since Alien Resurrection supports mouse control, maybe its difficulty was adjusted for mouse play? In that case it would be a pretty good game.

Nintendo introduced the 'seal of quality.' It was a certification process to guarantee a game against piracy and other issues that had led to the crash of the industry in 1983 where so many poor quality titles were being launched and copied. However by the early 1990s this ended up being used more as a strict control over publisher and developer rights than real quality control. Many arguments and battles ensued. Sega were not much better and famously fought with Accolade and EA over licensing rights which Sega effectively lost, leading to EA making their own cartridges. Sony came along and said ok: we have a certification process, but ultimately you can release whatever you want as long as we get a cut. Also, we will give anyone a cheap devkit and even make basic ones for homebrew devs. This led to nearly every world class dev getting hold of kits no problem. Smaller talented devs also capable of building new 3D games and of course, bottom feeders who got kits and made garbage as the system became popular. Luckily the garbage was outweighed by the gold. Sony's strategy worked.

The best thing about alien resurrection on ps1 is with a cheat code it can function as a boot disc to play cdrs.

Actually i have finished Final Doom on PS1. It was very difficult for me, because levels were not easy. I have not finished TNT Evilution and Plutonia on PC because it was too hard. Because of that PS1 version of Final Doom was more tolerable and playable and finishable.

Dude I luv your channel and you have amazing passionate content but Die Hard Game Fan was awesome ! They were the ONLY ones that defended the Dreamcast when it was actually out. Unlike all the other publications at the time like IGN that turned on the Dreamcast the minute the PS2 was released.

I always envisioned that Final Doom would have been a solid followup given the pedigree of the first game's original PS1 release. I was wrong.

The hobbled PS1 Final Doom is really curious. Why was it so cut down I wonder.. If it was a standard port then all the work had been done and there was no storage limitations on CD so there was no reason for it not to be a 1:1 release. So maybe there was more to it in that it wasn't a set and forget port and all the content had to go through some manual tweaking and there were complications (possible ram limitations or something else?). It also doesn't make sense how it ran worse than the original release??

I remember playing through Dukes of Hazzard back when. I actually remember the cops not bothering me, but the physics in the flashbacks? Oh my god, the worst. When you're driving Uncle Jesse's whip, it's just horrendous.

Texture warping was bad enough but the dithering on the PS1 was probably even worse. I was always critical of the Saturn back then (Sega fanboy) but I never realised the PS1 also had some major shortcomings.

6:15 alien resurrection is good, but like you said, its wayyyy too difficult. I had to restart the game a couple times because i never had enough ammo for certain stages.
