11:52 This short review nails it: "Your ship doesn't handle as well as it could; the graphics are a little choppy, and sometimes it's hard to distinguish the track from the background." => just by watching the video, I could tell those were big issues, in particular the last one: if you can't really see the track or the turns ... well it's not going to be a good racing game. That's one of the most important fundamentals of a racing game.

This was the first game I ever played that had music with lyrics and it blew our minds. The music doesn't especially hold up, but in the mid 90s, having a CD quality soundtrack with full instruments and lyrics was enough of a revelation to convince us all it was better than wipeout.

When I first got my Saturn used for $40 (man I miss those prices lol) this was one of the four games I bought with it, not knowing what it was. Not particularly amazing, but the incredibly bizarre choice of soundtrack has made it stick in my mind all these years later. I'll still give it a listen on occasion if I'm in the mood for 90s cheese.

For me, Cyber Speedway is an early but interesting game, at least in its Japanese and European versions, mainly because of the soundtrack, although gameplay has quite a few flaws, there are some circuits that are much "faster" and it gives us a clue that they could have improved for a sequel that never came.

Good review! I don't remember this game at all growing up, but sounds like I didn't miss much. WipeOut was pretty amazing for its time as it was like the definitive futuristic racer of the mid-'90s, so it doesn't surprise me this game just got buried after it came out. Cyber Speedway's choppy framerate looks absolutely nauseating! Also, they really should have stuck to the Japanese version's soundtrack. That US version music is so out of place for a game like this. What the heck were they thinking!?

I think this is the only example where the Japanese version ISN'T the one with the goofy, out of place vocal tracks. I mean, some people like Daytona's theme a whoooole lot _(too much,_ some might say) so I guess maybe they thought they could go for something similar here?

This one I remember vividly as no one wanted to play it at the EB Saturn display. I tried it on the US clunky controller and after the second race I was bored with it. The concept seemed good but there was no challenge especially when I sucked driving the damn thing. I don’t think there was more that could help the game if more time was allowed. What’s funny is the future themed games are always so gray and metallic.
