I miss the gaming hobby before it was destroyed by corporate consolidation and ESG nonsense obsessed with turning games into Hollywood. Simple game design and functional graphics like this will always age better than contrived nonsense. This looks incredible.
@Jayce_Alexander11 ай бұрын
Really? I kinda feel gaming is the one branch of the entertainment industry where you can escape from this. I stay away from most (but not all) AAA games nowadays, I'd say about 80 percent of what I buy are indie games or games developed by smaller studios and publishers. I honestly feel that in gaming its fairly easy to get away from Hollywood influences. Some of the games I've been sinking a lot of time into these past months include Super Robot Wars 30, Record of Lodoss War - Deedlit's Labyrinth, the Klonoa collection that was released last year, TMNT - Shredder's Revenge, Disgaea 7, Black Future '88, Live-A-Live, and Blazing Chrome. I'll admit my tastes are fairly focused on retro style and strategy games, but if you look at indie devs and smaller devs in general I really feel there's a lot out there that's worth playing and feels very reminiscent of what games were like in the 90s. Steam, GOG, and the Playstation and Nintendo online stores a choc full of games like the one in this video - new ones, classic games, and arcade games that were never brought to home systems before As someone who loves comic books, I kind of wish I had similar options there as well. However, if my main interests were AAA titles I'd probably agree with you entirely.

@gfhrtshergheghegewgewgew173011 ай бұрын
you're right, i never really played it, but ever since i first listened to the soundtrack i loved that part of it. i don't know about the soundtrack not all being good, but i guess it's all in what you're looking for in this kind of thing. for me, eliminate down stands out as the soundtrack that just comes out and breaks your balls in half right out of the gate and thrashes you around nonstop until you love it, it's a chiptune heavy metal rollercoaster the whole way and that's exeactly what i want from a side scrolling shooter with a name like ELIMINATE DOWN. anyways, it's nice to see that the game actually looks pretty interesting, like a mix of primarily darius with r type and some gradius style mechanics, a medley of/loveletter to the sidescrolling shooter genre, especially with all the different stage and boss designs. between this and granada and gaiares and even wings of wor/gynoug and more, the mega drive seems like it was THE platform for the most sidescrolling shooters exclusives short of taking the plunge into japanese pcs

@RetroPiero10 ай бұрын
@@nmnateCorrection, your Grind Stormer 'circuit board' is broken/dead. The EPROM (actual game itself) still works. If you are good at soldering. You can desolder the EPROM chip off the dead board & resolder it into a working spare/donor board. For some reason, TENGEN used very cheap boards for their GENESIS games, thus many of their cartridges tend to not work now a days, specifically Grind Stormer & Pit Fighter but the EPROM's themselves are still very much alive. Also, I also love if they release Battlemania 1&2, Snow Brothers & hopefully 1 day, Alien Soldier.

Bro I could SWEAR I had this game on Mega Drive. The title is so familiar to me that every time I see it my mind just immediately goes to "I had that". The craziest thing is, I also thing I only ever had one SHMUP, and I could also swear that the game that I had was Steel Empire, based on gameplay footage. But the name Steel Empire does not sound familiar at all, whereas Eliminate Down is almost up there with Quackshot and Sonic 2 in terms of familiarity. But I mean, it's been 30 years, so pretty safe to assume that my mind is just playing tricks on me, and I had Steel Empire and just don't remember it.

Hail, Sega Lord X! This is and always was, my favorite horizontal shooter on the Genesis. The music and sound affects are great, and the bosses are super cool. Starting early on, there's a very steep difficulty spike that never seems to drop, til the very end, so its most def on the difficult side of shooters like this, it takes quite a bit of practice to make it through, but if anyone's looking for a good challenge, I'd say it doesnt get much better than this, for its genre. That said, the physical copy looks excellent and that emerald nebula green cartridge is absolutely gorgeous! I most def recommend this game to any fans of the genre, check it out!

They're incredibly short games and often built for arcade cabinets. You just had to practice. Modern games are easier because they last much longer and there's not an arcade & rental market to consider. We also nowadays have much larger differential pricing. People forget gaming wasn't mainstream until the 2000s. The normal gamer nowadays is far less committed to the hobby than someone from the 80s and 90s.
