That's a beautiful pen! Your video inspired me to go out to the shop and give it a shot. I made a blank out of walnut with a yellow heart segment between two black and white laminated in-lays. I put the segment on a 45° angle. I like the result. Thanks again for the video!

Great effect had never thought of using laminated plastic in a pen. Will have to try as have a few bits kicking around with no obvious use for them. Thanks for sharing👍🏽

@@ZacHiggins See you are still using the abranet with zona paper. I switched to this recently after watching your video and it makes a difference. I always struggle with fine scratches after I think its good then put the magnifying glass on it. That technique helped a lot. Thanks again.

Great video as always Zac! And the pen turned out beautiful. I just bought some segmenting material from Turners Warehouse (both sizes). What made you decide to use the bandsaw to cut it? Too much tear out with a table saw? Thanks!
@ZacHiggins4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure, I just had the bandsaw set up with the little crosscut sled and went for it. You could use a table saw just as easily. I also have a SawStop, so I tend to cut metal things with the bandsaw rather than having to turn the brake off on the SS
@eddieagha58514 жыл бұрын
@@ZacHiggins thanks. That makes sense. Especially the Sawstop part.

Caution on the engraving blanks - white-black-white plastic - it might have 1 or 2 peal off clear sheets on the outside to protect the surface. I have an engraver and a lot of material of all sorts of colors. It is an old style manual. Good luck and nice.

lol, it's almost freaky to see something as small as a pen blank on your lathe. :-P
@ZacHiggins4 жыл бұрын
LOL I know, I actually thought I might still use the Comet still after I bought the Laguna, but the first pen I turned on the Laguna changed that. it's so rock solid, I have no desire to turn on any other lathe at this point :)
