This video is of a wood turned segmented walnut and maple bowl inspired by traditional tapa cloth patterning. I did this video all with a stop motion technique trying to remove myself from the story in order to make the materials, process, and product the stars of the show.

I've seen hundreds, if not thousands of KZbin videos. Most I play on 2X speed because it seems people really want other people to hear them ramble on with nonsense for extended periods of time. I've made a few segmented bowls, I know how the process works, I clicked on the video thinking it would be another well-done video that interested me. What I found instead was a masterpiece and I enjoyed soaking in every single second. I don't think I've seen a better made video on KZbin. Thank you for taking the time to produce this! I enjoyed it very much!

Making that bowl was simply incredible but creating that stop motion video is absolutely freaking amazing!! How far did you move the subjects between each exposure. Are you a film professional who does woodworking as a hobby, or a woodworking professional who does video as a hobby? Thanks so much for making the effort to do this video. It blows my mind that one or two people were able to make this amazing work of art. You must put it into a film festival!! It will win awards! The walking clamps are pure genius, and all the sound effects where great too! Do you mind my asking what video editing software you use, and whether you use a Mac or a PC?

Hi Frank - did you ever hear about the brownies of cologne? The helped the people during the night, now one saw them ever. They did everything: Baking, butchering, winering, talors stuff, builder and so on and so on. But one night the nosy wife of the taylor dropps peas all over the stairs. When the brownies came into the house during the night, quiet like usual the suddenly slipped on the pies and all fall down the stairs! The nosy woman jumped up from her bed, grapped a candle an rushed out to see what would going on. And she saw all the brownies - but the brownies disapeared and never showed up again. From this night on, everybody has to do his work by his own again. At least we know where they have gone - they are in your workshop now, healthy and safe, no stairs, no peas, just what they love most - wood :-)

I did not realize how much video and photography work I was going to be doing when I put the lights in the shop, I got 3500k bulbs so with the amount of day light changing all day and night, on some shots I don't get the white balance quit right, then I have too many short clips to fix every one manually so I do an auto correct in post and it varies as the colors in the scene change. I need to change all my bulbs to something closer to daylight.

Thank you for the complements. I don't know specifically in CA. There is a huge wealth of info on line now. And there must be wood working groups and conventions in your area. If I can push any advice it would be to learn what is safe and what is not safe. and start with small projects you can finish and feel good about, which will get you on to the next project.

13 thousand(+-) photographs put together in a variety of ways. most at 15 fps some at 30 fps and stills images interspersed at appropriate points. I kept thinking I need to be filming me doing this so I could do a behind the scene video, but that would have been 3 projects at the same time.

Thanks! Yes, what happed to that piece was not so clear, it was the bottom. It's hard to get all the triangles to come together nicely. I held them back and left a hole. Then drilled out that hole to make a perfect round hole I could plug. It worked better than I had thought it would.

I guess I've learned on a saw without a guard and that is what I am comfortable will. I can see the value of a splitter, but I have not figured out how to get one on my older saws. I would want everyone to be as save as they can be. On a positive note a have made a guard for the jointer.

This was about two weeks. I would guess if I just did the project it would have been 2 or 3 days. The scene where the clamps come off, took 3 hours. I realized a lunch that day I had spent all morning un clamping a piece of wood.

This brought me back to my days of senior year of highschool. I spent hours in the woodshop every day creating bowls just as intricate as this. Some bowls would have well over a few hundred pieces of wood. My teacher was awesome and he was a fan of exotic wood such as purple heart, tiger striped maple, pedauk, zebra wood, walnut, ebony, and quite a few others. I still have all of them and I wish I had the machinery to continue. Awesome video!

I love the visuals, the animation is incredible - i really admire the craft in both senses. I have to say the sound effects are too loud and intrusive for me, it makes enjoying the video difficult. Perhaps its the combination of the music too. For my ears they detract from the amazing visuals. Astonishing animation though!
