I was watching Jerry Bennet's video on Segmentology Tilt! I have the pieces made and they appear to form a nice ring laid out of the bench. I have yet to figure out how to glue together. Hose clamps or rubber bands don't seem to work as the segment tend to "lift up" as you add more pressure. Tried adding a weight on top as I tighten the clamp but that doesn't work either. Did I miss something in the video? It would appear that I need to glue them up as pairs, then glue the pairs up set by set. But I'm afraid I'd get the alignment off a bit and end up with a deformed ring. Anyone have experience or thought on this

As a 77 year old newbie to turning, I fancy I'm going to be watching these videos a few more times until I get the hang of this stuff, Thanks Jerry, Stewart, south west Australia.

Wow this is very very cool. I came across your name in an AAW magazine my friend let me borrow and watched your three videos on segmentology. I can’t wait to build a wedgie sled and try this. Unfortunately it will be a while as we are getting ready to relocate. Thank you so much. I also subscribed to your channel so I’ll be doing a lot of catch up watching.

Hi Jerry, I've learned a ton from your videos. Thank you for sharing so generously. ALSO...thank you for sharing your music. I am also a musician (not in your league) and absolutely love the music. You are a true Renaissance man!!

Brilliant! And I put the tilted segments in my new KZbin video about making an amboyna bowl from a little block and thought I had invented something new. Oh well.

Hi I would know that there is a difference between your Seg-Easy Plate and the Woodturner PRO Plates, I see that you have some of Seg-Easy Zero-Plates and those of Open-Segmented Vessels will have some video related to this, I would like to know what the difference is and They have some that the others don't have. Since I am about to buy all of Woodturner PRO and they give me all the software, it will be a purchase of 700 dollars. but I would like to know the difference between them, please

I enjoyed segmented turning before I was forced to quit ten years ago for health issues. If I had your ideas and methods then I could have accomplished much more. Thank you for taking me back.

Hi Jerry, I've watched all of your videos several times and have learned a little with every viewing! I'm 75 years old and started turning about 3 years ago but have recently endeavored in segmented turnings! I made the Wedgie Sled and bought the complete set of Wedgies and off I went! It's a whole new adventure in A,B,C blocks and thanks to you I'm learning the entire alphabet! I love your guitar playing as well! Thanks for the videos and the help! Tom

Ok after a couple of successful projects making straight sided rings I'm branching out into slanted rings. I have just a bit of confusion in cutting the triangles. At 04:39 don't the 2 lines you already have on the stock tell you which way to put them? At 04:53 I just can't see how the triangles are inserted correctly. Shouldn't there be a second black sharpie line alternating from inside to outside. I literally have a set of segments right in front of me and the top line skips from segment to segment and the inside line does the same. Oh and I did mark them as I cut them and don't see why since it just mimics the marks I already have. . I swear over the last 3 years I have watched these same set of videos 10s of times. I can tell based on the question I posted that you answered back then. :)

I've had a modicum of success with segment turning, but it's been a bit of a nightmare. I've watched a few youtube videos but none of them come anywhere near yours for clarity and insights - superb in every respect. Now I can't wait to start having another go. Many thanks and best wishes. Oh yes, is there somewhere where there are pictures of some of your finished work?

This question may be obvious to some, but i want to build a Wedgie sled for my son for Christmas. I have watched all the videos but still not sure of which side of the blade the sled goes on. My guess is the sled goes on the side that the blade tilts away from. I have a Rigid brand saw and I think it tilts toward the wide side of the zero clearance plate. I checked and his is a Rigid brand saw also. I will remove the my zero clearance plate and check which way my saw tilts. Thanks for all the information. Bruce from the city of orange in orange county California.
@JerryBennettArt6 жыл бұрын
Hi Bruce, The blade should always tilt away from the sled.

Thank you so much Jerry for your outstanding explanation of segments cutting. It is men like you and Carl that have given me the desire and inspiration to try my luck at making bowls, and other projects with these cute little blocks. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us through you tube. Years ago I would have never tried anything like this. I love your explanation, and you make it look easy. Thanks a million and keep up the good work.

Don't understand how you can glue up the tilted pieces if the width of all the pieces aren't equal. Does the height need to be the same?
@jakvisuals8 жыл бұрын
Amazing, I still would like to know if the width of all the boards needs to be the same.
@JerryBennettArt8 жыл бұрын
They do not have to be the same width.
@jjsinacola8 жыл бұрын
Jerry, enjoyed the video. My question is how do you calculate the width of the triangles. I measured the distance between two segments and cut them they were way to small. Could use some guidance on how to calculate the triangles.

just did my first glue up with tilted segments. As Jerry said "a whole new ball game". Kind of like squeezing a wet bar of soap with wet hands. Compressing the OD causes the segments to raise out of position, so they have to be held down or sandwiched after gluing and then squeezed on the OD. This could be a whole new video as when doing lots of segments (16 which really means 32) the glue is well set on the first before getting to the last. I long to hear your comments on this Jerry, a good learning curve is waiting. Thanks again.

I used my new wedgie sled today with vertical blade and got 3 sets of 16 segments looking very nice. I had done 16 using my original sled and had to half ring adjust which threw the design off a bit. These came out quite correct. I did realize though that tilting the blade requires a different 0 clearance insert so will get on to that. Thanks Jerry well done.
@0716Michael8 жыл бұрын
Love the diamond shapes and will have to try this now, Just got my wedges and almost done with new wedgie sled. The real trick I see here is how to calculate for a given diameter ring, or maybe I am over thinking this for now. Thank you Jerry
@thomasjanoski64363 жыл бұрын
I'm having the same problem with calculations. But I decided, after determining the size ring I'm shooting for, to draw out one segment with Sketchup; then determine from that the dimensions of the pieces that I need per segment. It seemed to work for me.
