I did an exhibition performance with my college in Japan and thought we were going to be the ones doin the schooling. Little did I know how serious the Japanese take their marching! The performance quality of some of the Jr. high's alone would make any great high school marching band in the US nervous. Just amazing, hard working performers.

Simply amazing. This is possibly my most favorite marching show. Thank you so much for paying close attention to detail for getting it perfect! words can't express how much I appreciate this group! BRAVO!
Wow, what a great show and a fine band! Excellent music selections, great playing and really nice sounds.

I lived in Fukuoka for many years and was always impressed by Seika. They are simply fantastic. The homage to Judy Ongg (Miserarete) at 4 minutes is tongue-in-cheek brilliance at its best. Wind is not blowing from the Aegean but from Kyushu! Keep it up, girls...

Such perfection. I would love to see this group preform a military marching routine such as we did in the 1970’s just to experience the thrill of the precision in execution and sound again. :). Amazing talent!

I'm guessing by now you've already discovered they HAVE in fact marched shows like that, but if you haven't I recommend watching this video. It'll blow your mind: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j6qyn6eHg9dqbrs

I've seen this video many times-yes it has some characteristics of an early 70"s DCI show but the quality of the performance and the thematic material is still first rate. I love the ending-however the iconic version of the "Battle Hymn" is in my mind from the Troopers of Casper, Wyoming.

glad to know I'm not the only one that can get a GIRL to put some sound out on a baritone!! Great job, Seika! I've seen some other video of them, so this show was just for this festival in the USA... I wouldn't judge their marching purely on this performance!
Uhhhhhh, yeah. That was intense and incredible. Trumpet solo. Awesome!! You never see this much tightness with most bands here. The town over from mines has a really good marching band. But after seeing this, they would not stand a chance. Amazing job Seika girls!!! :)))))
The Seika Girls can beat ANY American band or DCI drum & bugle corps!! I have watched this video 100+ times!
@takigan2 жыл бұрын
They'd win BOA assuming they didn't get penalized for design. They'd definitely win DCI Open class as well. As for World Class I think they could make finals, but they'd have trouble beating the Top 5 corps.

My band (mostly college/university retreads still playing after almost 30 years) played in Osaka and Kyoto with the Tachibana Girl High School marching band 15 years ago - the musicianship was excellent and their marching skills were amazingly good. Yes, they practice a lot, but they still take all required general classes (while touring around the world at the same time, somehow!) I am glad to see that there is at least one other very high quality band like Tachibana. I see a few of their videos are in the suggestion column over that way ----->
@dougg47227 жыл бұрын
Well i have to say, although i like tachibana very very much, but seika is much much better than tachibana... Tachibana needs to fight very hard every year for marching contest finals and get gold award every 4~5 years. Seika's target is to get full score. Gold award is just a piece of cake for them.......
@hernandoloto7 жыл бұрын
Both Tachibana and Seika are great marching, but each group have their own identity. Seika focusing on synchronize marching and good sound. A typical marching band that always aiming for the perfect score, Tachibana on the other hand are still fixed on their vision to bring new experience and unique style of a marching band that made them famous, that is up to this date many school band already adapting the style of Tachibana and many audience amazed by the style of Tachibana, Even they are straggling in getting to the national conference. That is why many people love to see them marching on the street. they bring happiness to the people (young and old alike) who watch them marching.

The way they angle their bell-front brass instruments doesn't look very pleasing to me, but the important thing is that it's uniform across the band. They do that well.

Amazing.. One thing. Brass horn angles SUCKED. I'd assume they don't have high horn angels in Japan, cause otherwise I'd assume they would have them.
@takigan8 жыл бұрын
Just because every meathead visual instructor in DCI teaches 10 degree or 20 degree horn angles doesn't mean that's the way it HAS to be, and every other way sucks. HBCUs or gramblers often use very low horn angles. In Japan they're more horizontal. Why? Most Japanese performances are indoor (gyms) with lower bleacher levels. Whether you horn angle is high or low, uniformity is what matters, and this band looks VERY uniform.
American find stuff to complain about all the time. Dang, if you didn't like the drill, look at videos of them when they are in Japan and you'll see why. They use mace drum majors and military style marching. Stop complaining so much.
