Hello, Here is part two of the Seiko 6139 Service tutorial. In this episode I dismantle the Chronograph and train works. I find some problems and a missing part!
I will say now that I am not a professional and this is only my 3rd time inside one of these movements! I DO make some mistakes and also inaccurately describe the hammer function. Please excuse these errors.
Hopefully you will enjoy the video and still be able to follow along.
Always welcome any feedback or tips on things I could do better from you more experienced of tinkerers.

Hi Mark, Mike, Are you saying that the movement in the video and your movement are identical in every way? I have the stormtrooper and will be attempting a refurb if the movement in the video is identical to mine.

I've just found your channel! I have TWO 6139B water-resistant watches, one, my original blue-face one, drowned in the local swimming pool, presumably an O-ring fail. I unscrewed the back, to let it dry out, but it hasn't run since, and now is showing signs of corrosion. I bought a second one off e-bay, a bronze face, which does run, but I suspect it needs a good clean and lube, as it was pretty mucky, and often stops, needing coaxing to restart. (could also be a weak mainspring, having watched your vid just now?) I was considering putting the working mech behind the blue face, and into my original case, which is a lot less battered, but having seen what is involved, have changed my mind - too fiddly for me, and I don't have the equipment!. I took them to a local genuine jewellers that sell Seiko, but they didn't want to know, too much work for too little return. She tried to sell me a new quartz one! I also have another e-bay purchase of a 7S36 - 100 mtrs proof, which is my daily wear.

I have my father's blue face 6319 Retro Racer from 1972 with the original bracelet that has round holes that are reminiscent of a steering wheel. I think there was some tie in with BMW. If you have that bracelet, know that they're irreplaceable and they make the watch. Find a watchmaker, not a jewelry shop that sells watches. You might have to send it off somewhere, and be willing to pay for this level of service.

thanks Dale, to be honest I wont film the cleaning of these parts as it will be quite extensive and time consuming. The glue I will use some nail varnish remover, that should do the trick. as for fitting the dial this will be a proper challenge.

Brilliant! I’ve got some 6139 parts on the way... although not the actual movement yet. I dare say this is going to be an invaluable resource. Thanks so much! I really hope you do a reassembly video of this movement so I don’t have to watch it all back in reverse! :D All the lubricant types and where to use what would also be super helpful. Thanks again!

Hi Mike, nice video like always I think you would have been a great teacher :). Lately inspired by your job I started to service one of my watches more specific a Pojot 2616 2H, the problem is I have managed to break one of the lyre spring that secures the balance endstone and now the question is where could I buy this kind of springs? Buy the way the watch is still ticking...but only if it sits on his belly :). An answer from you or from anyone would be much appreciated. Nice day to you all.

Hi there, love the video! What advice would you have for someone starting out who is hoping to carry out basic service/repair... seeing videos like this is incredibly satisfying but the thought of doing it myself is quite daunting. Where is the best place to learn?
@Supercruze
@Supercruze 4 жыл бұрын
Hope you can bring this one back Mike. Some serious wear on that watch and movement. Looking forward to the outcome. You can safely remove the automatic winding bridge first and then let down the mainspring. Much easier to do it this way.
@MyRetroWatches
@MyRetroWatches 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Lets hope it can run well again. It was my mistake to try to let the mainspring down so early on.. On a normal Seiko auto its practically the first thing I do. Just forgot that on these you need to strip more off. As I am a one take wonder when filming everyone gets to see but hopefully not copy my mistakes.

It is honest to show the mistakes, and entertaining is some times painful. But it shows the even you makes them un like normal tv where every thing is perfect! 👍

That little stepping gear is a magnet 🧲, so ya may want to use anti magnetic 🧲 brass tweezers. I noticed the name “Pioneer” on your watch repair 👨‍🔧 s mm device (I don’t know what to properly call it). Your friend, Jeff.
@MyRetroWatches
@MyRetroWatches Жыл бұрын
? There is no stepping rotor in the 6139 it’s all mechanical
@jeffreyhickman3871
@jeffreyhickman3871 Жыл бұрын
I am totally mistaken on this not having a step rotor. The name “Chronograph” had me thinking 🤔 that this watch at least had a digital display, but it doesn’t. In other words, I thought this was an ana-digital watch, which have the step rotor with a tiny magnet 🧲. This, and mainsprings wouldn’t go together well. Even in analog quartz, and ana-digital watches, the surrounding gears ⚙️ are brass, so timekeeping of the watch won’t be affected by the stepping rotor trying to attract regular steel gears ⚙️, dragging the watch movement to a stop 🛑. I saw 👀 gear ⚙️ that ya sourced out to me in the video, along with “This is to Jeff”. Happy Halloween 🎃 👻. Your friend, Jeff.

I have really simple question. I need to move the tachymeter interior bezel on my Vader. Should I go in through the front (exterior bezel/crystal) or through the back (remove movement) ... Or is either way fine? ???
