Hi guys, here is my tutorial for assembling a Seiko 7S36 movement. This movement has allot in common with the &s26 with just a few refinements made by Seiko. I show you how I tackle a service on this movement, where I oil and in what sequence I rebuild. This first part I rebuild the train of wheels, escape and balance.
You can download a service manual from my site here: myretrowatches.co.uk/seiko-da...

Excellent tutorial...even though I'm in the early (infant) stage of working with watches, your narration is so informative. I like how you identify the parts and why and how they work together. Keep up the good work and keep the videos coming.

I thought you’d uploaded the blooper reel by mistake with screws flying everywhere and the tripod falling down. It’s the mistakes and your chat that makes your videos so watchable , keep keeping it real Mike.

I like 👍 the crown 👑 gear ⚙️ image that you’re greasing. Very intricate work. Those gears ⚙️ are at the end of the stem of the crown 🤴. One ☝️ gear ⚙️ tooth 🦷, looks like 👍 it was bent, but it was probably how I was looking at it. Your friend, Jeff.

Hey man just wanted to let you know i used this and the service sheets as my primary references for my first ever repair and service of a watch, my barely running 7s36 snzg03 seiko. Started out at: +224 s/d 137 amplitude 6.2ms beat error. After 3 days it's running in dial down: -1 s/d 272 amplitude .2ms beat error. really appreciate the vid! I'll definitely buy you a coffee. For others watching, i initially did a pretty sparing lubrication of the escapement like you did in the video and and couldnt' get the amplitude up past 250. I ended up buying a microscope and doing a proper lubrication of it it and that alone increased the amplitude 22 degrees. It's worth doing it right.

Great video (as usual). A very relaxing watch (pun intended). Quick question if i may... how do you know all the areas that require lubrication and how do you know how much to use? Down to experience?

I am following you while working on a 7S36. Your instructions are very helpful. The cap jewels on the bridge are very difficult to get right. You have a fiddly jewel and an equally fiddly clip. How do you keep the jewel from sliding around? - I finally got them in using #7 tweezers and a homemade tool (sewing needle glued into a small wood dowel for a handle.)

It's similar to HP enclosures. In a watch there is at least functionality to each part and in a HP computer I can leave out stuff which serves no purpose.

Hello Mike! Great video and thanks for sharing your knowledges. I'm actualy doing my first mouvment disassembly and assembly and it the 7S36 I choose simply because my watch felt on the floor and didnt work since. So I hope it will work again. Just a question. How do you know if your balance spring work ? What is the shape of this part when it is new ? I'm afraid mine is broken because of the shape of the Spring. Many thanks again ! Max from France

You would need to Google hair springs to understand now they look. This should not be damaged by dropping a watch it use usually when someone has tried to remove it or it is magnetised. Don’t try to fix it if you don’t know what you are doing. It’s best to look for a replacement. Look on this site and see if he has any cheap 7s26 or 7s36 watches or balances that you can use. speedtimerkollektion.com/shop/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=7S26%20&search_in_description=1&sort=2a&page=2

Hi Mike. Really nice video. I just love your style. Quick question: Given that Seiko is such a well known brand, I would think that parts would be easy to come by. But you mentioned you ordered a balance spring from China that was less than adequate. Was that due to price or availability? Thanks for the videos!
@MyRetroWatches
@MyRetroWatches 4 жыл бұрын
Dale Yurk good question. These are old models so new parts are scarce however the 7s26/36 were made in abundance so finding parts is easy. I only needed a balance spring which original is £25 and for that I can buy a whole donor watch. The Chinese balances are £3-5 delivered. I asked questions on them to my community and many said it was a 50/50 gamble as some work some dont. Mine didn’t , well it would run but not how I would like. I ended up using another of my donors and spending what felt like hours fixing the hairspring to run well.

I am going to get a proper scope, the USB one is OK but its not very easy to look up at the screen whilst trying to manipulate tools or parts and I think it is that which is holding me back so much. The USB scope is incredibly good for what it cost and means I can record via Windows Camera app but for close work I have a pair of them loupe 25x "spectacles" which I wear in front of my close up glasses and I look like a cheapskate borg hehe
