Fell in love with this instantly. Sadly I made myself a promise not to buy a watch this year, but this will be the first serious bank transfer for me in 2021. For me the first thing I thought of was when I saw this watch was WOOW a "Seiko Explorer"... a bit later, maybe a "Seiko Railmaster" :)

Seiko Laurel Hand-winding Alpinist was introduced in 1959, an automatic version of Seiko Laurel 14041 Alpinist came in 1961. Quite passionate to create something useful around the Tokyo Olympic in 1964.

Glad you presented this black/gray version as it helped convince me to get one. Will be incoming in the next few days. Looks fantastic here in the 'half light'. I also have the SPB147, "cappuccino 63mas" and it's quickly become a favorite and hasn't left my wrist since it arrived a month ago. The 6r35 in it has been all over the place at least initially but finally seems to have settled in to roughly -4/day.

​@@robiv7139 Not a fair either/or comparison since they are so very different aesthetically/design wise as well as how they each wear on wrist. That said, the Alpinist is my favorite between these 2 at the moment. Years ago that would not have been the case as I was only into divers but these days I've been becoming interested in smaller, lighter watches without bezels. Still have mostly divers tho.

@@dustytriumph I agree i love divers too. But I love smaller Watchs also. Lighter on wrist, they fit nicer. I've just come across the aplinist and I like that it looks like a very versatile watch for all occasions really. Your thoughts?

Nice watch, I bought the Green dial on the bracelet and the black dial strap version. These are keepers for sure, classics in the making. When I find a piece this good I always buy two!

This guy is really interesting, pretty glad I got it. I like the black dial better than I thought I would in person, because it's actually more sparkly than it looks on camera... I thought it would be more matte than it is which I wasn't entirely thrilled about.

Indeed. I would've gone with the regular alpinist, but I don't like how the black dial indices look (or I could've gone with a blue dial, but that's not gonna happen for awhile I'm sure), and the cyclops kills it for me. I went with this guy instead 🙂... I do wish it had a sunburst dial instead, but that's really the only hold up for me.

this one! i have the black dial version of the compass version (spb117) and i can't wait to get this one as well. the only thing i would fault this watch is the polish on the case. imho should have had a fine brushed case, more fitting for a "tool" watch.

I think this will be my new watch . I still have the sarb035 and love it . This watch will fit nicely in my collection. . If I am going to travel with it, I can put it on a nice black silicone strap. ( Beach time ) 200 m water resistant is great .

Have had the blue dial over a week now and just put it on an oyster bracelet. Just a gorgeous watch. The watch the dial changes in different light is lovely. And proportions and the changes made made this a must for me. Single domed sapphire with AR, no cyclops and no compass make this a real winner imo. And that leather ain’t half bad.

Zoli Sovány I got mine from my AD, the MOTZ4110J1 I think the reference is. I got a very good deal though and paid the same as the oyster from Strapcode, otherwise i would have gotten the strapcode.

Not that I know of. but rumors are the old sarb017 aftermarket bracelets fit.

Well technically they are the same level of gradient but to the eye may be the gray would look less

That is how it comes from factory. It is supposed to be like that with deployant clasp. You flip it for regular clasps.
