SEIKO BLUMO SBDC033 dive watch review. This comfortable handsome Seiko diver has a lot of great features that make it an excellent daily diver option. With a low MSRP and even lower grey market price this could be the best bet for an affordable seiko diver with a 6r15!

I own this Blumo till this day. The Hardlex is a weakness which is best rectified with a replacement of an aftermarket sapphire crystal. Doesn't cost much nowadays. A few plus points: Aftermarket sapphire crystal is double domed with AR coating and comes with a bluish tint. Looking through the dial is a much clearer experience due to the nature of sapphire and AR coating. The dial comes to life as a result, the blue seems richer than it was through the Hardlex, even the hour markers look way shinier. The sapphire crystal is also slightly more curved than the Hardlex but not too outrageous. Not to mention sapphire's extreme resistance to scratches. Try it. I know you will like it. With the crystal upgrade, the watchcase will be on par with your SBDC061.

Hey James it's deff on par with my SBDC 061 but I agree it's only missing a sapphire crystal really I've been thinking about replacing you cuz I was able to do it on my own SKX but since I'm an amateur I always run the risk of destroying the watch lol.... 061 and the 033 are actually very different when you have them in hand so they definitely could sit side by side in a collection both are amazing watches. @@WatchChris You are absolutely right, these two watches are different enough to be owned by the same person. Like you, I have both. By the way, you will be better off getting a professional replace the crystal rather than doing it yourself. I bought the sapphire crystal from a watch shop and he did the replacement work. So no issue.

Hey Chris wanted to give you an update on the new Sumo. Went to the mall in Columbia Maryland recently and had the privilege to try on the new Sumo with sapphire crystal and new upgraded 6R35 movement. After handling it , checking it out I’m convinced that the Blumo we own is nicer. The new Sumo has slight cosmetic changes that to me alter and take away from what makes the Sumo the Sumo.

I need to go check one out but I agree a sapphire doesn't justify the big price jump I would love to do a side by side my Blumo and the new sumo...

I agree, the movement update doesn’t mean much as to be honest, Seiko movements are so hit and miss it’s a lottery anyway! I got the 3rd gen black and 2nd gen blue at the same time, assuming I’d keep the black and return the blue but I ended up doing it the other way round. Didn’t like the new bezel font and it just felt sterile and boring. The blue genuinely makes me smile and looks great on the strapcode jubilee

The reason all seiko divers are harlex is because is more impact resistant than sapphire. And when your diving and hit your watch on coral you can live with a scratch but not with a broken glass.

Thanks Hilda for the comment. Totally understand and agree however for day to day use which is 90% most people wearing an SBDC will be desk diving... Chris awesome review on this amazing 😉 Seiko watch . As you know my favorite and best Seiko that I own thus far . Very accurate assessment on both good and bad points on the Blumo. My only disagreement would be on the hands . Yes big and chunky but totally different from the Turtle 🐢 and skx . As you mentioned for price it’s a tremendous value. As far as the crystal goes the most recent Sumo does have sapphire crystal but the price is between $700-$800 . To me a sapphire crystal isn’t a justification for that much of a price increase. With that said I’m extremely happy with the Sumo/Blumo that we both own 👍🏻

Hey Joseph I didn't know the new Blumo has a sapphire very interesting... Either way I am going to leave the hardlex I'm not hard on my watches so it should be just fine!!

WatchChris I couldn’t agree more I’m not hard on my watch either so why pay for a mod that’s going to compromise the watches 200 meter w.r. . I love my Sumo just as it is . To me the perfect Seiko watch for the price paid. Yeah I’m extremely bias lol but definitely my favorite watch ever 😀👍🏻

So that's a Blumo. Big sucker ya! Very nice piece though. Might have to put that on my radar. But a 45mm watch with a 20mm lug width? I would have expected a 22mm. But very nice.

It's not a small watch but I have to say it's good looking in person... I very much like it. The 20mm lug gives it a more vintage fit feel... But it would be a little too heavy...

SaleenDiver don’t let the 20 mm lug be a deterrent. Fitted and on the wrist one of if not the best fitting and most comfortable watches I’ve ever worn . It’s like silk on the wrist. The stock bracelet isn’t bad either. As Chris mentioned the clasp could be improved but even with that said still an outstanding watch . I’d also ad that even being a 45 mm watch and a 52 mm lug to lug the lugs curve and on the wrist doesn’t feel big or overbearing. To me Seiko’s most underrated watch and a fantastic watch to own 👍🏻
