I am so relieved watching your videos because they boost my self-confidence. You see I have the same watches like you have, I have the Seiko SBDC053 on a steel bracelet and the Tuna SBBN033. Love them both. They are like brothers, they share the same hands and the one completes the other in every way you can think of. Just stick to the Seikos man.I know you are happy with them. Well done again for delivering another great presentation.

I have the 053 on a bracelet and absolutely love this watch, from fit and finish to accuracy it’s a solid watch my favorite for sure. I agree with your watered down effect I have in my rotation the 053 for office meetings and everyday use but I lean towards my turtle 777 on a crafter blue rubber strap for my more everyday beater . I also recently pick up my first g shock the GW5000 1jf and really like it a lot as an everyday use also. When I want to go smaller I put on my Steinhart ocean one 39. So that’s my rotation and I find that it’s a good balance for me and prevents the watered down feel that will come from a larger collection.

Can you start a new channel for those of us that are SBDC051 and 053 owners? I enjoy both of mine and wear the dive strap which is the most comfortable strap I ever tried. I'm keeping both of these, my Omega PO 600, and my Seiko turtle as my beater. I'm adding a sapphire to the turtle. Can't go back to hardlex after seeing the difference on the 51 & 53.

I like almost the whole package. At that price you can get a much better movement than the 6r15. It should have a movement regulated to less than + or - 10 sec per day.
@mcstarling076 жыл бұрын
Seikos are notorious for under selling their movement accuracy numbers as well as water resistance ratings. Mine runs about -5 a week, sometimes dead even. Its more accurate than some watches that I paid a whole lot more for. Maybe I got lucky.

Good review. Completely agree with your “watered down effect” theory. Too many watches is overkill and dilutes the significance of the special pieces in your collection. One cannot appreciate the nuances of a fine meal if one is a glutton. Like Miles used to say, it’s not about how many notes you play, it’s about the significance of the ones you do play and the ones you don’t. Less is more.
@JeffreyMcMahon6 жыл бұрын
Less is more indeed. Seems that 6 is the most I can have though 4 or 5 is more ideal.

Great video, im having a tough choice between the 053 and the 063. Does the crown stick in your wrist on the 051 and 053? I’m used to the crown being at 4 o clock on my Diver’s
@JeffreyMcMahon6 жыл бұрын
It's not a problem, but in general I do prefer the crown at 4. I remember I noticed this at first, but after a week I no longer feel it. But that is an important consideration. On the 051/053 the crown position isn't too important because case is 42.6mm. However, I used to own the 48mm Seiko SUN019 with crown at 3 and that crown dug a bloody hole in my hand.
@thetrentmeister3 жыл бұрын
Watching this video reminds me of how great these watches are! Now it’s a few months down the road after you got the Willard and the new mm200, do you think Seiko have improved since this era?
@JeffreyMcMahon3 жыл бұрын
While I love my Willard and my MM200, including their 70-hour power reserves, I believe they are overpriced at $1,200. The 051 and 053, around 800, are a better value.

100 % agree with the "watered down affect." I've had my Seiko SKA369 for 11 months and it's the only watch I ware. I don't even want another watch. I have about 5 other watches that I never ware. Some are dress, some are divers and some are mundane but still work. I like the kinetic/quartz movement for it's accuracy and shock resistance. I like a screw down crown because I've had other watches where the crown pulled part way out when it caught on the hem of my pocket, which stopped the time. Just reach into your pocket and see where the crown hooks over the edge of your pocket. I do use the rotating bezel as a timer and I prefer a crown guard. The price of $209.00 delivered was another attraction for me. I know it's not your "cup of tea" but I love it. I always enjoy your outlook on life and watches. Keep up the great videos. Thanks, Mickey

Jeffrey McMahon yeah... I feel like I obsess about watches but I am more Quality over quantity, though our definitions of quality may differ. I only have two watches and constantly think if I should even have two watches. Drives me crazy.

Two is perfect cause if you only have one you have to go without a watch for a while when service time rolls around...

Alien Hatz yeah, that was one of my justifications because the very same week I bought my Rolex Batman I accidentally popped the bezel insert out and had to send it in to Tolex service center. Sorry can agree on the "Watered down affect" I go with the "Critical Mass affect" The more watches I collect the better I feel about the watches I own , Trouble is I'm running out of time, one watch a decade was fine once, a Seiko 6139-6012 back in the Seventies, (Still going strong) swatch in the eighties (long gone) Pulsar trek in the Nineties , and a Seiko military model in the two thousands, so Now I have over thirty watches 12 seiko's ,a Doxa, couple of Omega's, Bought a tissot visodate today, like to get a Milgauss before I hit sixty, Want a definition of an old Person ? A young person that thinks what the F**k Happened ?
@briansavage51416 жыл бұрын
Have you ever justified keeping a watch simply due to sentimentality? I purchased my first Seiko on a business trip to Yamanashi at a boutique shop in an outlet mall. It's a green dialed JDM Seiko 5 Sports model. I've since purchased a couple of other Seikos and I find myself wearing this watch maybe only once a month. I am nothing if not underwhelmed by it on the wrist. I cannot bring myself to part with it however, because of what it represents. It is the physical introduction to a lifestyle brand that I'll be seemingly drawn to for the unforeseeable future. If I part ways with this watch, I feel as if I may regret it similarly to how I regret selling my first car (also an underwhelming specimen, but sorely missed based on what it represents).
