Nice review. I got the 637 recently and I was attracted to it when I saw it. Very comfortable on the wrist too. Tried changing to a silicon strap but the pin was too thick so have to stick with the original bracelet.

I scuba dived, parasailed, paraglided, skydived with this watch and numerous more activities with this watch for 2 years and it still looks great, even with a few scuffs and scratches, the hardlex has held through well and I don't see any scratches on it most of the damage was taken by the bracelet. Amazing watch for the price.

I don't have any problems with my tuna crown unscrewing and adjusting. Bezel works smooth as silk and chapter ring alignment is perfect. True the bracelet could be better but the watch is unique and built like a tank. Lume is amazing too. Tuna rules bb!

I bought my 637 Baby Tuna 2 months ago off Ebay. I LIKE this watch. It's big, heavy and has Mega wrist presence. Fit, finish and build quality, are very good. The 637 looks more expensive than it is. Mine came with an after-market rubber strap (which looks much better than the standard issue bracelet). I wear mine on NATOs. The 637 is a stylish diver; a tool watch in the best tradition. I highly recommend it.

I've found the shroud useful in that I have knocked the watch fairly hard several times just with general use. There are marks in the shroud so it does work... It is a large watch and sticks out a fair bit. I like to swing my arms when walking etc....

Air diver means its not for saturation diving. Only diving with pressurized air.

I have the Baby Tuna and I love it! The bezel is difficult to turn with the shroud but that also means that it is far less likely to be accidentally turned if knocked while diving. "Air breather" is pressurized tank diving - more than skin diving or snorkelling but not saturation dive rated (that would be a 300 m or more depth rating). I've been told that the alignment, or misalignment issues are your guarantee that it's a genuine Seiko. ;-) Good video - thanks!

the shroud is to stop you knocking the bezel, then diving with oxygen the last thing you want to do is knock it, and have it change on you when you are timing your oxygen and dive times.

First, thank you for the video, it is very clear with lots of nice information. I am a casual recreational Scuba diver. I think I can try to provide some input regarding the shroud, I dont wear watch during my dives but only my cheap Suunto digital dive computer, not sure if this is fair to compare but I will give it a shot. After just a few dives, I start noticing how quickly my brand new dive equipment deteriorated in conditions, BCD, Regulator, and including my dive computer, the scratches I collected is amazing, they are at least 5 times more than conventional common land equipment. Some of the damages collected were never known until I am back on land, probably my senses are a lot lower or numb when underwater, it seems I tend to accidentally hit corals or rocks without realizing, maybe due to my bad buoyancy skill, I am not really sure. So if the shroud is there to give extra protection for the watch, I think I can understand that. As for the ease of adjusting the bezel, I feel that once the planned "remaining bottom time" is set, for a diver to ensure he/she can maximize the total time he can spent underwater, it is definitely hoping to minimize any accidental movement at the bezel, I think if I would to wear a dive watch to do scuba diving, I would want to minimize any possible disruption to my bezel, reason is because I have to pay for each boat trip I dive and I dont want to accidentally turn the bezel to reduce my available bottom time cutting short the dive which is associating with cost. Trust me, you will be amazed at how things were moved or adjusted without your knowing comparing entering the water and exited. Thank you for reading.

I think you made an amazingly valid observation. BOTH are the EXACT same watch. They thought they'd get more money for a shroud with getting a couple hundred bucks more for the baby tuna. It didn't work. The monster was too popular. I wish they put the circular bezel on the monster and the baby tuna dial on the monster The baby tuna had a really nice dial and second hand.

Just as you said, bezel is almost impossible to turn, I almost broke my nails on it. And date change action is also as your watch has - without any hesitation or click. Good review, very informative. I have just bought a srp641 (black & gold version) paid less than the prices you mentioned. Regarding the shroud it's not absolutely essential for diving but stops the besal from accidentally turning if it were to sustain a knock underwater on say a drift dive when you can reach some speed. It could be a nod to the Seiko h558 a watch I was given when I first learnt sport diving in 1985. The below explanation re 'air diver' is sound albeit with the correction of helium gas. Saturation divers would not use either watch due to it being only 200m rated. Thanks for uploading the video it helped in my decision to go for the 641.

And the use of helium which requires a helium release valve in the watch..Example. A Rolex deep sea dweller.. In a nut shell Seiko are denoting the watches are not suitable for saturation diving..

I feel its inpprtant to distinguish the two types of diving. Air diving typically means people who dive from above water surface such as from a boat onto the water. Saturation diving is when people live below sea level and dive out onto the sea. Such as oil rig workers, submarine crew who need to do energency repairs. They live in a high helium environment ( pure oxygen is explosive, can catch fire from a spark). Im not a diver, this is just casual knowlege. Someone with diving knowledge may be able to clarify. Tl;dr an air diver is one that is expected to be used with normal air conditions pre/post dive. A saturation diver can do air diving as well as high helium air used in deep see diving.

Air Diver refers to someone diving on compressed air, or using scrubber/re-breather units (Draeger for example) deep divers have to use He Gas - (helium mixed gasses) or Nitrox (oxygen rich mixed gas) or Trimix (Oxy/He/Nitrogen) to avoid nitrogen narcosis or oxygen narcosis. Seiko's deep dive watches are marked He Gas Diver so you can tell the difference. These gas mixes come into play primarily below 300m - commercial or 'technical' diving. Incidentally the bezel on the Tuna looks like it would work better with gloves on, and a bezel that is easy to turn is next to (worse than) useless for diving.

Great review/comparison. just picked up the "baby tuna" and waiting eagerly for its arrival. I'm assuming they label both as "air" divers because they have no helium escape valves and hence are not suitable for saturation diving. But I could be wrong and it's just a range designation by seiko.

"air diver" means using compressed regular air. This is what is used in normal sport scuba diving. "Professional divers" go deeper and stay longer using adjustable gas mixtures. Pro Diver watches are 300m+ and some come with nitrogen valves to release extra nitrogen that might build up at greater depths. Thanks for an in-depth comparison review!

I regularly run into issues - not even when diving - where the bezel catches on things or I bump my watch and it rotates the bezel. This is quite inconvenient, as it makes your timing inaccurate. So for me, the shroud and being more difficult to rotate the bezel is a feature, not a drawback

This has probably been commented already but the “air diver” text I believe is referencing the stages of dive watches and the given depths they can be used for free diving air diving saturation diving although nowadays only really 2 of the 3 are used air and saturation as free divers are now pushing deeper and if they have a watch on will probably have a 200m wr screw down crown air diver watch rather than a 100m push in crown or 150m “old style” air diver like the sds001 7001-7000 pre skx or old turtle/Willard etc so the air part is more a reference to the gas mixture in the dive bottles if you can use just compressed air a 200m wr air diver watch will be fine if you need more of a saturation diver mixture then your watch would need to be a saturation diver with probably a healeum escape valve “or in seikos case” a l shape gasket and different style of movement with a mono block case like the tuna or grand tuna 👍🏻 hope this helps and I’m not saying my answer is 100% but from what I have found out so far it’s as close as I can chip in lol 👍🏻

great video..had just subbed..this review was recommended to me by j anthony. as far as seiko adding the monster to the prospex line..they did with the gen 3..but they gave it the 6r15 movement..I think. I like the monster tuna..I'm torn between that and the new gen 3 monster..I'm lost my gen 1 to future son in law so only monster I still have is the srp311 gen 2. my guess for the air diver designation..and this is just a guess..is that it is suited for normal scuba using compressed air as opposed nitro and various gas mixes..I'm probably in left field with that.. in closing I enjoyed the comparison very much..ty

There is a PADI Monster Tuna, and it's shroud looks like it might fit a 1st gen. The Baby Tuna's shroud won't fit the Monster through. If you look at the edges of the bezels of the Baby Tuna and the Monster, you'll see that they're actually slightly different. The Baby Tuna has a flat groove at the top of the outer edge of the bezel where the shroud meets the bezel. But the Monster's bezel has an angled outer top edge. So the shroud on the Baby Tuna won't fit the Monster's bezel...

+Andy Ayre I would be the none swearing AC3. My video are to boring. I'm not fan of grand seiko looks like somthing you could buy from argos for £30.00. Great movments but I think over priced. £4000+ OMG. Not many about so it does have exclusivity. In general expensive Japanese watches do not have as good a resale market as expensive Swiss. 2nd hand might be a good buy but only if could get one under 2000. For the same price you could get Rolex or thinking outside of box Jaeger-LeCoultre, IWC, Tudor, Zenith if you looking for nice dress watch within the same price. I vote JLC Revo. I like there diver watches very will made and priced but would never buy there £5000 diver. Off to China soon want anything?

great in depth review, since my teenage days I wanted to buy Seiko automatic & very recently I bought Seiko 5 snzjo3k1. I wanted to buy a Seiko diver n after browsing on internet I came across with monster. I started following some channel like yours ( the urban gentry, Long island) n ask about the review for the same. may b there are not bother with my request. I found your review for the same n I'm so satisfied with details you shared that I subscribe your channel. I appreciate your efforts for this review. Using the bezel to measure the time while you are doing your Sauna does not sound a good test for the diving performance of a watch.. But I am not a diver neither.

I'am a diver and I use a dive compter by sunnto watches. These watches are not used by divers anymore.

Metal watches don’t really work in saunas and steam rooms anyway as they get way too hot 🥵 and conduct all the heat up the skin… ouch

robbiecox Because 99% of the posers that buy them are desk divers. Your life does not depend on bezel accuracy when diving at your desk or driving in your H2.

robbiecox lol it’s not a must have, it’s just extra protection. And Rolex submariners make up the most quantifiable number of “desk divers”. The Tuna’s are a tool, and don’t pretend to be anything else, and I really mean the serious MM models like the Darth

I can confirm that the baby tuna is difficult to set during a scuba dive. That said, "dive watches" be they rolex subs or seiko divers have been made obsolete by dive computers. They have been relegated to being dress accessories, or chick magnets. YMMV.

Ma786sai dua pl tell me if a tuna shroud is removed does it look similar to the scalloped bezel on Monsters? I recently bought a baby tuna SBDY055 and 2 Monsters a Jade SZSC005 and a blue coral SBDC67 but all 3 pieces are abroad and yet to be brought to me to India. These will be my first Tuna full metal and Monsters. I love the scalloped bezels on the monsters. Waiting to get these 3 Seiko’s in my hands! God bless you Cyrus

i have a monster but from what I heard Model: BN0150-28E lume is easier to read after 4 hours :) no maintenance req and way more accurate
