Thanks to Grant we get a great look at this great Seiko.
I kinda view this as an affordable sarb alternative with day and date. Sapphire crystal really adds to the value for sure. Hard to complain here, but I know a few of you will. Haha

Day date is always better than just date.

I'm surprised that, when only one is present, it's always the date. Personally I'd like day only, since it never needs correcting.

It depends. Because if the dial is really beautiful like on many Seiko Presage it's better to have only the date. For example Sary085 or Srpc01j1 known as Starlight or Sarb065

I just picked up one of these about a month ago. The size of the SARY57 was more to my liking than the SARB033, so that swayed my decision to get this one (and it's about $200 less than the SARB as of this writing). I absolutely love this watch. It's a little big but it wears more like a 40mm than a 42mm. It looks great on my 6.75. If I were a one watch guy (which I'm definitely not), this could be my everyday watch. It's dressy enough to be a dress watch, but sporty enough to be a casual watch. Mine is running about +3, which is great. By the way, that's the factory bracelet, but an aftermarket clasp. My only criticism of the watch is the lack of good micro-adjustment on the clasp. On my wrist, the bracelet is either too big or too small. Fortunately, this thing looks great on leather straps, so that's where it spends most of its time. Thanks for the vid Rob. There are very few SARY videos out there and I think this thing will grow in popularity with the discontinuation of the SARBS.

I got my sary057 yesterday from Japan. It is quite lovely in person. Will be getting the 055 soon before they start getting harder to find.

If that bracelet is not original, it sure is a nice match! I didn’t realize how much I depend on the day function until I dropped of my monster for service..iwould take that over a Sarb any day. Even if the movement is not as nice. I meed day date function! Nice review Rob!

That is one fine looking watch for under 3 bills. I really like those curved lugs and I’m also a big fan of day/date. If it only had lumed hands/indices...🤔 I also like how it has handled significant wear. I prefer a little character from use on watches. Terrific review, Rob!

The kanji for Friday might look like a house but is the meaning for gold. Days of the week in Japanese from Monday go : moon 月, fire 火, water 水, wood 木, gold 金, earth 土 and sun 日. House, by the way, is "jūtaku" 住宅 or "ie" 家, which is used in "kazoku", 家族, the meaning for family. Best wishes from Japan, where the SARY057 is now completely unavailable, just like all the SARB and SARX watches !

I have this watch. Can't recommend it highly enough. Beautiful finish and take a look at these Watch Check readings over various periods during the last year. -2.4s/d, +0.4 s/d, 0/0 s/d. Easily my most accurate watch. This is the SARB for the slightly bigger wrist.

Question for watch afficiandos. I recently tried some CK watches, yes Calvin Klein, yeah they're Swiss made. I was totally blown away by their fit and finish. I'm not talking about the movement, just the case and bracelet finishing, design n craftsmanship... Just immaculate, reminded me of my Sarx 033. Sure CK don't have sapphire crystal, but their domed glass looked a thing of beauty, no automatic movement n they're a fashion brand, but they're owned by Swatch and i was simply impressed by the finish of their watches. Would you advise me on picking one up over a possible Japanese watch? My main req is finesse and sharp quality of case n bracelet n crystal

That is the Seiko bracelet with a Strapcode clasp www.strapcode.com/store/22mm-double-fold-butterfly-dome-shape-lengthened-deployant-clasp-buckle-brushed-p-2532.html#.W7L1S_ZOnb0. Please note that I had to chamfer and polish the end edges of the clasp because it was a bit sharp, but otherwise it is great. Regardless, I often wear this watch with a black leather strap, which works well because the parts of the case that are normally covered by the end links have a high polish to them. -Grant

Had the white (creme) and flipped it knowing the black would just be better. Wish this one had SARB hands but the case of the SARB is just too small. edit: The SARV003 is the same watch but has SARB hands and lume like I was wishing for!

I stumbled upon the SARV003 recently and pulled the trigger. As you said, it has Lume...but it also has Drilled Lugs, which I think is a nice added touch. My only gripe with it, is that this one doesn't have Sapphire. I wonder if I can purchase one after market somewhere...

Where did your friend buy the clasp? I just bought the SSA305J1 and bracelet seems the same. As a lot of people I can't size the bracelet as I'm between links. Too short or too long. Also the clasp is garbage. Flimsy and rattly. Any idea where was the clasp bought? Other suggestions like a quality V clasp would be greatly appreciated. BTW, again nice review. 👍

The only thing that bothers me about it is it looks like they had to insert another silver ring inside the bezel so that the black face would fit. Looks like a workaround when the face should actually just be a little bigger. I don't think the other similar watches have that.

I am very confused about how the day-date complication works! How can it have both Japanese and English? How do you select the language you want? Can I have it so it shows only Japanese? Do all SARY057 come with both languages? I am very close to buying this watch but I want one with a Japanese Kanji day complication. Can someone please explain! Thank you!!

Set the day to the Kanji equivalent of the day before today. (i.e. if today is Tuesday, set it to the Kanji equivalent of Monday). Then just change the time forward till the day changes to today and keep moving it to the current time. From this point on, only Kanji will display. Just don't manually adjust the day if the time on the watch is between 9 and 3.

The wheel has English days alternating with Kanji days. Every night, the watch will naturally advance the day wheel two positions (so for a short amount of time, the other language shows). Thereby, with the exception of the time the day is changing, the day will always be displayed in the same language. But when you pull out the crown to set the day, whichever language you stop on will be the one that gets displayed going forward.

Commando Master sary057 wins in my opinion. I prefer the slightly bigger size. Also has day date rather than just the date. Cheaper price and very accurate.

I have owned this watch for a year, bought it new for £130 reduced at one of the main UK jewellery retailers. It's a great entry level watch. Looks great and performs great. Only failings are the original strap seen in this video (other than the clasp) is very cheap looking. The center parts are mirror polished and look too much..so I'd suggest a replacement bracelet if purchasing. The 4r36 movement is acceptable and performs okay. If you're on a budget I would buy this watch otherwise I'd buy the sarb or maybe push the boat out and get the sarx or the sdgm brightz. The sarx and sdgm with black dial are amazing watches. Sub grand Seiko quality at a fraction of the price..

Does anyone know a clasp that will fit this that is still available or how they got this clasp to fit? I have several stapcode clasps (20mm) that do not fit. Can anyone help recommend a replacement clasp? I have been looking for a long time for a replacement clasp for my SARY057 so I can get a better fit but the size seems unusual: on the side with the micro adjust it is 20mm and on the other side it is 18.5mm.

@@lifeworldsphotography4867 Are you referring to the very end of the one side that is reduced from 20mm to 18.5mm? Even though the end is smaller, the larger portion keeps the spacing correct. So I just threw a spring bar in there like normal, and it works great.
