Seiko SBDC065/SPB083J1 "Great Blue Hole" Special Edition Review!

In this video we dive deeper (pun intended) into the Seiko SBDC065, "Great Blue Hole" Special Edition diving watch, otherwise known as the SPB083J1 in international markets and the Baby Marinemaster or MM200 in enthusiast circles. This watch is so gorgeous, the dial is awesome, the entire watch is diashield coated so there's minimal hairlines and overall I'm just very happy with it. It's rare for me to say this, but I think it might actually be a keeper! Wow, I just said it.

I have mine for a week. I can not stop looking at this beautiful dial. The case is ergonomic and comfortable for the wrist. Wears like a 41 mm.

Good review. Covered all the bases. Agree about the SS band - should be screwed-in links. Not wild about the hour hand. It detracts from the elegant dial & bezel’s retro vibe.

One of the best Seiko's I've seen reviewed because of it's dial, diashield and a sapphire crystal. I think it should be a regular line model and sell for no more than $600 US.

True the diashield coating on the bracelet is very scratch resistant i still haven't had hairline scratch on my sbdc053 and i'm not baby sitting my watch,compared to my blackbay in-house i bought it after the seiko,but have more scratch than the seiko...

Just got mine today. Gorgeous watch, love it. Payed $1050 CAD for brand new one from AD in Toronto. It's about $780 US. Excellent value for that watch IMO. Wears so comfortably on my 7.25 inch wrist. Extremely clean and balanced piece. Thank you for the video, mate. Cheers.

I have a Seiko "Turtle" with a dial that looks almost the same. I am wondering if the "Great Blue Hole" dial is the same as the "Turtle" with the dark sides and blue center? Of course, the Great Blue Hole has better specifications, but just wondering if the dial is shared in which case, I don't find the dial all that special. Thanks for the excellent review. Hey mate, great review there! I have been eyeing the sbdc05x and 6x for a while until I stumbled upon this beautiful "Great Blue Hole online." Can you tell me the size of your wrist? The watch seems to wear quite nicely on your wrist. I'm a bit concerned it will be a tad big on my 6.5 inch wrist.

Yes, my wrist size is about 19,5cm. It wears smaller than other 44mm watches I've tested before.

@@tynannida9642 having both I can say that it wears bigger than a skx : some >3mm difference in lug to lug ! And it's heavier too : some 35g difference with metal bracelet for both (and my skx has a strapcode bracelet not the seiko one). Nevertheless the finish, the dial and the movement are much better than skx. So skx is more comfortable but that's the only advantage compared to this one...

Hello everyone. I like 6R15 movement very accurate i did buy 3 SEIKO watches with this movement SBDC 061 /065 and 033 the Blumo on Blumo the SS bracelet and clasp are crap then I did put the blue rubber strap from 065 problem solved hole MM200

No, just different reference numbers for different markets. But there is no difference.

Apparently the 6R15c and d have 24 jewels. They added an extra jewel to the movement at some point in the past and did not update the writing on the rotor that says 23 jewels. If you notice the 4R35 and 4R36 also have 24 jewels but its written 24 jewels on the rotor and information. I believe the 6R15 was released before the newer 4R36. All based off the original 7S26 model. Lovely watches. I have a padi turtle(4R36) and blue coral Sumo which has the 6R15c movement in. Love my Sumo : )~

Bought on the second market for 550 bucks. Good watch for that money. In contrast, the Rolex just looks boring. The retail prices are too expensive in my opinion. But the movement is good, it may run for a very long time without any problems.

Yeah it wears really well and especially on the rubber it would wear even smaller. That’s a good price, I have one up for sale too but every time I look at it I’m thinking to just keep it! It’s really nice on the wrist

This is a beautiful watch. And to be honest I have been resisting the temptation to buy for awhile now and your video hasn’t made my temptation any easier 😄. My only hesitation is the lug to lug length. I have a small wrist at 6 3/4”.

Well I went ahead and bought this beauty and O regrets. The blue dial is so understated in the video, it is really something to see up close. Had some hesitation because of my smaller wrist but really it fits fine very happy.

Mark Preston it’s better then fine. It just feels like it wraps around the wrist closely and super comfortable. It’s actually a better fit then the new MM I picked up for Christmas because it’s not as high or tall. The diasheild is amazing still no scratches. Definitely a keeper. 👍😎

Your Seiko is running at +1 a day? I don’t believe it. Makes everything else you say questionable. Put it on a timegrapher and prove me wrong. Not saying it’s a bad watch but I know those movements aren’t that accurate.

I like it but I have the great white shark which I think looks much more beautiful than this one. The only thing is this one have the 6R15 movement compared to mine having the 4R36 movement. But you don't really notice it when you casually wears it on your wrist. And this model they show to us is almost twice the price of the great white shark model. I love it but I will not buy it because the looks on the great white is much more beautiful and awesome compared to this one. There is a gold tone and I think that one is unique in it's own style.

This watch is magical! Those who think that its price is high should buy Oris aquis at twice the price, and they will get nothing! The watch is even cheap for this magical workmanship and colors, you have a chain that will always be like new, if it is expensive, buy a Tag aquaraicer for 2500 euros and you will get a lower quality watch from this Seiko! Seiko is a religion!

Overpriced? It's still much better value to money than swiss watches tho. While I could agree about the QC issues, seiko's diver watch each has their own uniqueness, for example seiko monster, turtle, samurai, etc.

A lot of people that buy them, mod them because the esthetics are so boring but in doing so ruin the ISO dive certification. If you think with the 7s26 a very poor bracelet no sapphire questionable QC is a good dollar value, all the power to you. Cheers

@@dandyrayhan3970. I realized that later, l was on a rant about an skx. The same comment applies. All divers pay homage at least some degree to the Blancpain fifty fathom and the Rolex Submariner. That being said there are many brands " not Japanese " that offer non homage designs, keep looking. Cheers

@@derekshearer9049 I agreed that skx isn't the best value-wise but $200 is not expensive either for an ISO certified dive watch, 7s26 is an outdated movement with that lack of hacking & handwinding but it's proven to be lasting and reliable, and it's probably the easiest watch to mod and you wont get the same experience with other watches (it might ruin the wr but not a lot of people really use it to dive tho). Now tell me a few examples of microbrand dive watches in the same price range ($200-$300) with ISO certification and better specs. Cheers
