Bought my green dialed version 10 days ago and love it !! That green gives such different tones in the sunlight and puts a new spin on the case design, and Seiko does well not to plug the Willard connection. Accuracy is fantastic and it’s settled down to -1 per 24hrs.

Nice intro man. Who ever wears a watch to tell the time. Had mine a year, had to send it into Seiko its running fast. Been told it will be a while before I get it back. Seiko got a backlog of people sending the 6r35 in for adjustment/replacement. Seiko's drop in production standards goes further than a misaligned bezel I think.

That green one is pretty spectacular, and I love the bevel on the sapphire. I don't know that I'd be able to pull off green with most of what I wear, but I do love the new Willard X, as well as that SPB149. I am still honeymooning with my SRPE03 King Turtle I got in June though (great fit on my 7.25" wrist).

if given a choice between turtles and willards....i would chose Willard. the look is so unique and after wearing a homage self assemble willard watch made by some ethusiasts in Singapore. i find the willard case shape /size super comfortable.

Guys if you wait a couple months and the hype dies down you can probably save 20% off a local AD! Will be my Advice! Always pick the watch up in person if you can to pick one without any QC issues! Overall, the watch is I'd say $200 dollars or so OVERPRICED. Love it tho! that vintage look and smaller case. seiko is banking on our love for WILLARD! Sales seem to be very good of this model so it's working. I feel If i battle this against a KING TURTLE. It might lose!!!!

Where l live, in Asia, we are fortunate to get good deals. I bought the green Willard for only $830. I bought 62MAS, spb147j1. This one is $70 cheaper, at $760, bec being smaller, has less lesser steel, lol. The one with bracelet cost $140 more. Here, except for shops selling swiss luxury watches, all other watch shops sell seiko, and, there are so many. Lots of competition. I supposed when things cool down, you get better deals in the west too. I bought the King turtle srpe07k1 for only $400. The k models are made in seiko factory in my country and my neighbour, Singapore. Super cheap here. I hear some people say jdm is better. I have many jdm too. Personally, l don't think so, and, really, why bother. They are just fun watches.

Seiko is not overpriced. Neither is GS. Those who are really interested, they source for good deals. Perhaps, in the west, there's less competition. Your dealers got the upper hand. Here, everyone compete to sell, essentially, when it cools down, and, are offered on online portals. Here, people's favourite pastimes, is to look for offer in these portals. Too bad, they don't ship to outside Asia.

This is the one I would get between the 2 Willard-X's currently available. Love the particular tone of green(s).. too bad no version with the bracelet as I prefer to get with fitted matching bracelet whenever possible. But, I'm sure there will be no shortage of aftermarket bracelets if not getting stock one after the fact. Congrats on the pickup. Someday for me.. luckily it's not a even more expensive limited edition and should be around for quite a while.

The green version really is beautiful. Although I prefer to get the model which is closest to the original, that green one would break things up very nicely. I have a Dagaz Typhoon, which is based on the original 6105, so I know how comfortable this watch is going to be. I held the limited reissue a few months ago, and as nice as it was, I couldn't get over the idea of paying AUD$6000 for it. I've got a Grand Seiko Spring Drive which is in that league, but for some reason the limited edition wasn't 'speaking' to me the same way. Congratulations of your watch, it will give you many, many years of enjoyment.

The irony is that Martin Sheen wore the wrong model. The watch he wore was produced after the Vietnam War had ended. Oh well, it was just a movie and not to be taken too seriously. 😉

Not technically correct. The Vietnam war lasted until 75, American involvement until late 73. The 6105-8110/9 was produced from 70-77. So the American soldiers would have bought the 8000 and 8110 most likely.

@@iainrossiter758, the 6105 was produced until 1977. The 6309 was released in 1976. As for our involvement in Vietnam, take a look again at the evacuation of the US Embassy. Those are American Marines. In fact, I know two Marines who were there rescuing our people. One received a Bronze Star and he was the last American to leave. Nevertheless, the current "Captain Willard" is for me not worth the listed price. If it is to you, by all means, buy it. No one is stopping you. I certainly am not. Semper Fi 🇺🇲

Good choice. I bought both the black and green models when they first came out. I was kinda disappointed with the black one, though; the dial wasn't a deep black but a kind of "faded" black (yes, it was intentional) and, though the smaller size wears awesomely, it effects how the light hits the indices, IMHO, and my Merkur actually looks more iconically "6105-ish" to me. Don't get me wrong, it was beautiful, but, I liked the Merkur better, so, I put the bracelet from the black one on my green one and flipped the black. That bracelet is a winner, though, and turns my green one into a "Hulk", haha. That olive-green sunburst dial is great, shows the indices more like they're supposed to look. One of my favorite watches of all time.

I love my black Willard. It's the most worn watch in my collection. The movement accuracy is strange. I walk at least 6 miles every night at work and when I'm working it runs slow. But when I'm not moving around so much on my days off, it runs faster. Overall, it's pretty accurate. Seems to be plus or minus 5 seconds per day depending on how active I am. It looks so good on the wrist!

I'm taking my black SBDC109 into the jungle with an Uncle Seiko "chocolate bar" strap, thank you very much. Martin Sheen would approve. This is my second Seiko after my SARB017 Alpinist and it's my current favorite daily wear watch for sure. It loses 3 seconds/day. Also, I heard the bezel was steel. It took the place of a black Oris Aquis as my favorite watch.

I have the 1st ( sla017), 2nd (6105), and, the 3rd (6306 jdm, 6309 int.) divers. I bought this green reinterpretation of the Willard, the 2nd diver. The turtles are reinterpretations of the 3rd diver. The baby turtle, though, at 42mm, wear very small, bec of the lug to lug length of only 42mm, so, kind of round. I think it could have been a hit if the length is 45mm like the Willard. I also bought the 62MAS reinterpretation, spb147j1, with the rubber strap. I like the this new strap. For the first time, we have a length suitable for smaller wrist, like mine. I ordered for another 5 for my other divers.

It is a nice watch. But if you are trying to argue that it is a more true to form, reinterpretation, I think you are making the wrong argument. The "affordable" reinterpretation of the Willard exists. It is not the SPB153, but rather the Turtle.

not really. the turtle has its own lineage. 6309 is the TRUE first Seiko turtle 1977. and the 777 is the re-interpretation of it.

If so (and I think so) then the Turtle is as I said the affordable reinterpretation (of a re-interpretation) of the 6105 Willard. This is too complex now. So, forget that. Very nice watch.

Great video. Not sure I like the cut away case. I have owned a 6309 turtle for 33 years now. It is still my go to watch for diving. I bought a SRP773 turtle about 3 years ago and am very disappointed with its accuracy. It’s all over the place. As old as the 6309 is , it’s rock solid and accurate. The rounded case with the 4 o’clock crown is the ultimate in comfort. The old-non signed crown, is in a sense it’s own signature. As iconic a brand as Seiko is, I feel they still need to work on QC, and get back the quality of 30,40 or 50 years ago. Bottom line is time keeping and durability. After that , what’s the point.

I bought this one in Jan. It broke and was misaligned so its been with Seiko ever since. Also accuracy was terrible + 1.5 mins a day. Seiko have replaced the movement and the case apparently but I still haven't received it back. These seem to pretty hit and miss.

Interested in the accuracy of the Captain W by Seiko. My last Seiko Prospex I sold because it gained something like 20 seconds a day. My new Tudor Pelagos is clocking in (?) at around 2-3 seconds every two days gain. Love the way the Tudor waits till 5 seconds past midnight then instantly the date changes. Snip. Every time. Does the Seiko do that ? Lovely watch, thanks for posting

Seiko's have gradual slow change usually for date. My blue Willard is 0s a day since bought

A guy on the Dutch watch forum made the argument that he would prefer to call this the Uemura version. Naomi Uemura was an honest to god explorer who wore this thing on expeditions in real life. I tend to agree that "The Uemura" would be more apt than the "Willard". :) That said, splendid watch. It has my attention. So do NOT mod that watch with a black insert. I hope NO mod opportunities arise. There is nothing wrong with this design, IMHO. The case reminds me strongly of the Seiko Mini Turtle, even though it's got a three mm longer lug to lug. But this drab green... Must have it.

That is a lovely name! But unfortunately once the majority picks a name it sticks. willard X seems to be the winner on the forums by the seiko fans. Its interesting if you check the history on WUS forum you can see the invention of the name shogun on the forums. very cool how things can stick.

Affordable? I guess. Just about, if I commit to one watch next year. Desirable? Absolutely. Love the green. Want it. But, I'm gonna wait. A touch overpriced. Waiting is scary, it may not be available in 2022. But I want a blue Casio Frogman. A Citizen Nighthawk. Seiko Urban Safari or Arnie. 3 or four next year. That's a big enough hit to my wallet.
