Excellent review. I own a vintage 6105 and the reissue. I have to say, I wear the reissue much more than the original. It simply wears better and I feel is in the right proportion as it relates to the dial, case, etc...I just wish I would have waited on the Green version, as I agree it is a beauty. Keep up the fine work your reviews are refreshingly funny and informative!!! Well done mate!

While it is true that the US Armed Services general service (GS) watch was meant to be disposable, the bigger issue was that they were in chronic short supply. This meant that they were readily available to officers and pilots, but very difficult for an enlisted serviceman to acquire. Seiko and others filled the gap with watches built to a higher spec and to a more robust standard which were purchased at PX's by active servicemen during the Vietnam conflict.

I was a bit disappointed with mine losing 10 seconds a day which remained consistent over a month. So I took the bull by the horns and regulated it and she now runs about +8 seconds a week. Mines the same watch with black dial and metal bracelet. I do have the dreaded bezel alignment issue but it's very minor and after a while you just forget about it. Great watch.

Another brilliant review again Russ! Love the edged crystal giving that OG acrylic distortion effect. Maybe Seiko can start to throw in a slight yellow/brown tint into those sapphires if they want to warm up that old retro vibe some more (?) Wondering if any intrepid watch nerds have identified Kilgore’s watch as yet? Kurtz and Willard have their watch taxonomy recorded. Would be cool to see what Duvall was sporting in that infamous ‘Charlie don’t surf!’ scene! /…and then the run would begin…

Yup, this ☝️ Mine is one of only two homages that are left in the collection. A great too-good-to-be-a-beater beater. Toying with the idea to mod it a little this year - aluminium bezel, perhaps a repro Seiko dial. Awesome basis to try this for the first time.

I picked one of these up about a month after they launched and pretty much came to the exact same conclusions. Not to crazy about the strap and swapped it out for a waffle from uncle Seiko and a hook strap. I also paid full retail but I had the funds and I don't regret it two years later. My only major gripe is the movement. Not in its function but in its accuracy. I'm usually pretty lucky with Seikos. My previous two have been at cosc or close to it. Not so with my Willard I don't have a time graph but comparing it to my phone it's running at about +30 a day. Overall it's a fantastic watch and a great do it all diver that you can dress up or down. But the alkalis heel as with all Seikos is movement accuracy.

That was a fun watch! I’ve been deliberating with this one for a few months now, but finally bit the bullet and it should be arriving in a couple of days. I went with the Matt Black dial and Green NATO. I can understand the Green strap puts some people off, but not me, and it also reflects the Military ground force heritage and like ability by those troops, so it’s a tribute to them. Needless to say, Diver watch models are simply unbeatable for all round cool sporty looks, robustness, and day to day aesthetic wearability. We’ll done Seiko, this is the Turtle style I was hoping for, with heritage to boot 👍🏼😎

@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR Funny enough, I have the same model Spb153, also with a manufacture date of D0 (December of '20) which is still in the first year of release but has the added three o'clock lume pip. That being said... there were only so many made without the added pip at 3:00 during 2020 and the ones moving forward (2021 and beyond) all have it added... could it be that watches with the added three o'clock lume pip that were made for only the month of December '20 were manufactured in the fewest numbers? There must be a scarcer number of these than the other versions... just a thought.

A beautiful watch! I am still wearing my SKX, although modded with SNKL 55 dial and the NH36 (4R36). I personally do not understand what is the point in Seiko making both, 4R and 6R when they are essentially the same...ye I know 6R has a hair spring made of a different material and I know that it has longer power reserve but the performance between these 2 movements is exactly the same. Seiko states that the 6R has better tolerances but that is bullshit, both movements come unregulated and you can easily get 4R which is far more accurate than 6R and vice versa and both movements can be regulated to near COSC. It is nothing but a money grab, they should simply stick to 4R or 6R (not both) and leave 8 series as a step up because that step up is noticeable. Charging that much money for 6R is absurd.

Thank you very much my friend! And applied Seiko logo would’ve been a nice touch for sure!!!

Just found your channel. BRILLIANT!!! How do you not have at least 10x more subscribers??

Dude, your channel rules lol. Great looking watch. Just ordered the CWC RN quartz. Been my personal grail for a while. So much history. The Monnin case is design perfection. Would love to see you get one in! Cheers!

Cheers Grady! Yes love CWC! Have just bought an SBS Quartz! And after the review I bought this;) kzbin.info/www/bejne/h4fFhWaaf62mfdU

@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR of course I love that review as well! Was really on the fence on whether to purchase the RN or the SBS. Both are amazing. SBS video?? Cheers again!

Nice review that still leaves me a little confused: why is there a black hole in your Seiko chest at 3:00? Has it eaten the left-most watch already? Will it eat the other Seikos eventually? Don't let that happen! Take out the remaining watches and lock away the black hole in an empty crate with nothing to feed on until it finally eats up itself... Bit mad? There you go... 🤣🤣🤣

It was hiding the already acquired Willard:)

It’s very nice indeed, awesome finishing on case, dial and handset but that’s still much to expensive!!

The Willard watch is a beautiful too bad Seiko did not leave the Prospex logo off. I nolonger buy Seiko watches that have the Prospex logo or the new Seiko 5 logo, so my SKX009, Sarb017, Snk803, Orient Kamasu and Mako watches will have to do for now.

So many chuckles watching this one 😂 You really are a bit mad (in a fantastically creative way)! A grand seems a bit steep though. I don’t think it’s any better quality than my Samurai Save the Ocean Dark Manta which is half the price?

If the Willard is too large for you, consider the Baby Willard made by Smiths (Timefactors).

I like the looks of it, but my green waffle dial, king turtle does the same, with ceramic bezel. Love this watch, but to me the Willard is over priced for as having the king turtle that has more amazing functions, for half the cost. Matt😃👍
@FunTimeStudios82 Жыл бұрын
It’s not overpriced. It’s got better bezel movement, crown feels better, better movement, and it looks better.
@superdad43242 жыл бұрын
Looks fab! How heavy does it fee compared to a full size skx?
@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR2 жыл бұрын
Very similar, the Willard looks thinner because of the cushion style! Not much in it

@SuperDaD 143 is totally a diff watch. I had that for 1 week and sold. It was too much of a dressy diver.

I’m no where near qualified to say you should wear it my friend!;) tbh obviously the choice would be a GShock . The earthy tones gives it a field watch aesthetic to me anyway!
