Hey, Welcome to the OFD Watch Channel. My name is Aron Dunlap, and I’m nuts about watches. What’s OFD you ask? Well, one of my best friends coined this term. It stands for “Only F@#*ing Dunlap” (sorry kids!!) due to some of the ridiculous things I can come up with, including watch collecting.
I have loved watches for years, but in the last few years really got into the collecting and studying aspect. I mainly buy Seiko and Orient watches, but I love everything out there!! (Omega, Oris, Rolex, Squale, Timex, Casio, Steinhart….and on and on and on)

alpinist is indeed one of the ultimate everyday watches, as datejust, explorer or aqua terra. and it deserves to be mentioned among these legends with its unique design. a real special one.

Easily the best dial of any Alpinist I have ever seen.

I just got mine yesterday, it's such a charming watch. The dial shifts from grey to light blue and all in-betweens, it's very classy and interesting to look at. Also very comfortable, despite the stupidly short clasp, but I have a SARB017 and a SARB025 so I knew that going in. I also like the cyclops honestly, first time I see one and it's nice to have. I'm with you one the compass-less Alpinists, they look good but lose so much charm that makes the Alpinist unique.

In the UK these are about £700, which is about 900usd. I own one, and it's gorgeous, but like most Seiko watches it's probably not worth the money

@@OFD basic specification, and Seiko's traditional QC issues. I have just ordered a European Alpinist, and it's a lovely watch. However, pay half the price for a Relio Solstice or Phoibos Nebula, and technically you get a better watch. With Seiko you pay for heritage, and if that's what you want, that's fine. I love some of the seiko designs, and the case finishing is always excellent, but they are far from being good VFM
