Thank you for sharing these videos with us. You have a crisp and distinct style, as well as a clear and thoughtful approach to teaching. After the death of Matayoshi Shinpo, Matayoshi Kobudo segmented into several parallel lines of descent through different students. Although they're very close, thanks to Matayoshi Kobudo's focus on detailed development of kata, bunkai, and hojo-undo, there are noticeable differences in subtle details. I've closely examined the IOKA (Mikio Nishiuchi), IMKA (Andrea Guarelli), and OKDR (Gakiya Yoshiaki and now Neil Stolsmark), but your approach to this kata and Nicho Sai are quite different from any of these three. I've not been able to find as many detailed references about MKAGB (Kimo Wall) or MKKI (Franco Sanguinetti). Did you study Matayoshi Kobudo through one of those two lineages, or some other I don't yet know of? Or are you adapting the kata from one of the three I know, filtering them through the patterns of Ryukyu Kobudo or karate? I'm very curious about your lineage and approach.

Hello Rick, good question. My teacher in Matayoshi was a student of Gakiya Sensei and Yogi Sensei. He was also an experienced Karateka as well as having studied jujitsu, Kenjutsu, aikido and Judo whilst in Japan (he lived there for many years). So if you were selecting a lineage it would be the OKDR and the influence of my previous teacher Jhonny Bernaschewice Hanshi. His group is called Federation Geido Tao Chi Kihon.
