That reservation scene is memorable as is the pretzel line
@verdinox4548Сағат бұрын
I think the phrase for saying that someone is no longer drinking alcohol was originally referred to as being on the "water wagon". So if someone is on the (water) wagon, then that means they're not drinking alcohol....and so therefore when it's said that someone "fell off the (water) wagon", it means they're drinking again.🍸🍺🍹😁👍
@joseherrera84897 сағат бұрын
That reservation thing happened to me in Dallas a few years back. Luckily, they told me that since the car I reserved was not available, I could take any available one for the same price. I took advantage of that.
@jjw10727 сағат бұрын
-It's called "The Wagon" because back in the day of horse and wagons, the guy who had been drinking wasn't allowed to drive. He was "Off the Wagon".
@petercofrancesco98124 сағат бұрын
They had wagons back in your day? How old are you?
@SuperDrocket3 сағат бұрын
That's not even remotely true. The original phrase it's based on is 'on the water wagon', indicating someone who is no longer drinking alcohol but is drinking water instead. Water wagons were used before paved road: since most streets were dirt, horses and carts kicked up a lot of dust, so in cities they'd have a wagon that went around spraying the road with water to keep the dust down. It seems to have originally been something of a put-down (as drinking water was often seen as being rather weak, unlike strong manly alcohol), but in the run-up to prohibition the phrase was used in a lot of advertising in a more positive way, with 'get on the wagon' meaning to join the pro-prohibition movement and quit drinking. They'd literally throw rallies/parades with wagons that people could get on to show their support for prohibition. All of this information is quite readily available online - just search for "off the wagon phrase origin".

By the way IMO the best Woody Allen Movie is "Sleeper" Very funny.
@ElliotNesterman2 сағат бұрын
As an introduction to Woody Allen's movies I suggest starting with his early comedies, as being lighter than some of his later work. _Take the Money and Run,_ a comic mockumentary about a bank robber. _Bananas,_ which has more jokes per minute than nearly any other film. _Sleeper,_ a satiric, science fiction comedy. _Love and Death,_ a parody of Russian literature, especially _War and Peace._ Or you might start with what is likely his best romantic comedy, _Annie Hall._ _Annie Hall_ was nominated for the "Big Five" Oscars, winning four: Best Picture, Director, Screenplay, and Actress; as well as winning many other film awards both nationally and internationally. "Regarded among the greatest films ever made, [Annie Hall] ranks 31st on AFI's list of the 100 greatest films in American cinema, 4th on their list of the greatest comedy films and 28th on Bravo's "100 Funniest Movies". Film critic Roger Ebert called it "just about everyone's favorite Woody Allen movie". The film's screenplay was also named the funniest ever written by the Writers Guild of America in its list of the "101 Funniest Screenplays". In 1992, the Library of Congress selected the film for preservation in the United States National Film Registry as being "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant". It is also regarded by critics as a landmark "transitional" film in Allen's career, moving his work from more "accessible"[6] and surreal parody towards more "naturalistic" comic filmmaking." - Wikipedia article

Did you not recognise Dick the boyfriend in Ep 2? He was in an American Werewolf on London. I think "on the wagon" might have come from the temperance movement in the 1800's. (They would travel around and speak from Wagons, and getting on the wagon was a show of support.) The Hallelujah Trail might be worth watching to see some Temperance women in action. $85 is a lot for a sweater, as is $65 for a hoodie...🤷♂ Hannah and Her Sisters, Bananas, Broadway Danny Rose, Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex * But Were Afraid to Ask, Annie Hall, Crimes and Misdemeanors are some Woody Allen movies worth watching.
