They specifically mixed the surviving Russians with wolven demonic beasts since most normal animals had also died by that point and demonic beasts started resurging due to humanity being almost dead. They specifically cite Baba Yaga as the inspiration for their name as a species too, citing that since humanity had to physically become monsters in order to survive, they should take on the name of one of their culture's most well known monsters as a rallying/morale point.

I thing I feel is worth mentioning is that Ivan is a special case in regards to Lostbelt Kings being summoned in FGO as he Pan-human History Ivan in the body of Lostbelt Ivan (unlike the other Lostbelt Kings we can summon). His very first spoken line in his interlude is "WHY AM I AN ELEPHANT". The idea is that the reason the body and characteristics of the Ivan of the Lostbelt are applied to the Ivan Chaldea summons is that they were recorded by Chaldea, and so applied to the summoned Heroic Spirit portion into the Servant (using a similar process to what allows Chaldea to summon Cu Chulainn Alter). 33:49 if you want to hear something adorable on Valentine’s Day if you give him chocolate he decides to reward you by reading a story to you and he mentions how this reminds him of when he read for his son. Also theirs an interlude where you Ivan and iskandar try to retrieve books for murasaki shikibu’s library because the library reminded Ivan of his archive he created. and after doing this they give the library a ridiculous name along the lines of “The Great and Terrible yet Beautiful Library of Murasaki Shikibu” and this title sticks. And the funny thing is is that this interlude starts with Ivan asking why he is an elephant in the first place since we summon proper human history Ivan in his lostbelt body because that was the body we see and record Ivan as.

About that bit with servants having a historical and mythological counterpart. The games where Altera came from, this actaully happens with a specific servant. In fate/extella, Charlemagne shows up as both his mythological him , from the Paladins of Charlemagne, and his tyrannical historical self as Karl de Grobe. This is interesting because right now in jp fgo, Charlemagne is now summonable….

7:28 Actually there is a finite (but extremely high) number of timelines. That is the whole point of the pruning theoretical phenomenon and why Lostbelts shouldn't exist. The universe gets rid of certain timelines, they just don't continue, are pruned / culled. Quantum Timelocks mark events that all surviving timelines (within that "tree of time" compromising many adjacent worlds) share (the Fall of Camelot is one of these for example). Parallel worlds on the other hand are those on a different tree of time and each is subject to their own Quantum Timelocks for events in the adjacent worlds they contain. He also had shards of Sefar to work with, since Excalibur's blast sent bits and pieces of it flying all over. One of those shards became Altera, many became the giants that the Olympians fought in the Gigantomachia, and Odin used some as the basis for the Valks.

17:06 they are called the Yaga after the Baba Yaga because at some early point in their history as the Yaga there was a period where they were devouring eachother to survive. When this period past the bowed never to do that again and named themselves the Yaga to not forget.

After the asteroid impact beasts from the age of gods returned to the planet and the Russians used those beasts to fuse together to survive the new environment. Ivan himself became the first Yaga bonding with an old mammoth found in the Russian tundra giving him quality’s akin to a god.

I didn't expect Sekhie to take so well to this interpretation of Ivan. 19:58 I fully support that decision. That part was an experience. Sekhie clearly knows history better than me, so I'll just hand out some trivia and speculation. Why Ivan the Terrible has lightning powers here. I assume it is inspired by the 'Grozniy' part. I honestly never heard the thunder-emperor thing you mentioned, but I can see how that could happen, since 'Grozniy' shares its root with the word 'groza' ('гроза'), meaning 'thunderstorm'. Apparently, some chronicles also mention that he was born during a very intense thunderstorm. That could be the inspiration too. Regarding the 'Krestnyi Khod' ('Крестный ход') part of the Noble Phantasm name. I couldn't find anything that would make it relevant specifically to Ivan for it to be an NP. His general interest in church matters seemed too vague to justify that. However (and this is pure hearsay, I haven't fact-checked this) there is an iconic scene in 1944 Russian movie "Ivan the Terrible", where, after he withdraws from Moscow, the common people, fearing the potential chaos and oppression from the boyars (essentially nobles), form this procession ('Крестный ход') and come to him to plead him to return to throne. The framing with the procession in a distant background and Ivan in a close-up paints him as having God-like authority over his people. An odd bit of trivia, but apparently this shot's composition was influenced by Utagawa Hiroshige's print "Fukagawa Susaki Jūmantsubo".

Hmmmm, that movie bit is definately interesting, I'll have to check it out. I admit I don't watch much Russian cinema unless it's a movie my mom wants to show me haha, like Sharik Advantures. I hope I mention the grozny part at some point although I may have missed mentioning it specifically since I figured a lesson in linguistics and interpretation would be off topic haha. I have to admit I headcannon the church thing as related to the cathedral since it's such a famous building

That's the misdirect I was hoping to create!!! See one of the hints was "this servant knew Anastasia Romanova IRL" which was a perhaps too deep for a history joke/misdirect. See Rasputin knew Anastasia Nikolaevna Romanova, but Ivan the Terrible's 1st wife (of 8, his first was actually the only one he claimed to love) was Anastasia Romanova Yuriyevna! (This Anastasia was actually the aunt of the first of the Romanov dynasty, who took over the rule of Russia following the death of Ivan and his weak son who were the last of the Rurikid Rulers, a dynasty that had ruled Russia for about 800 years, from the 800s to the late 1500s). So I carefully left out the Nikolaevna and Yurievna, knowing that most people might overlook that.
