Perhaps the deflection happens because spiral cloud passage is in small hits, vs in big hits like the ashina cross which clashes swords.

Tbf, it's not off the table. When they released this game they were knee deep in Elden Ring development and Armored Core 6 when ER was wrapping up development. W the ER dlc about to drop, who knows what we're going to get next. Whatever it is, I'm sure it's already in development as well.

@@Jeffmetal42 As much as I love Sekiro, I somehow doubt it'll get anything in the future unfortunately. Fromsoft aren't fans of continuing an IP and would rather make something new (outside of AC I guess). And while that is to be commended in terms of originality and not playing it safe, some franchises really get to shine with a sequel that takes all the lessons learned from the first attempt.
