@@noxus7462 its been a while since i played so i could be wrong about a lot but the jist of of it is that there are two types of immortality. One that is divine and "good" (not really it comes from a lot of sacrifices) and another form which uses weird gross blood worms which grant it, which the monks use. But in Buddhism the whole point is to break the cycle of suffering and reincarnation and death the "samsara" and move beyond it and achieve nirvana, so the monks are doing the opposite by prolonging their lives and not even attempting to achieve peace and nirvana

The other way involves having your person occupied by a parasitic centipede. The monks at Senpou were attempting to achieve immortality through sacrifice, defying the Buddhas teachings by forgoing the pursuit if spiritual immortality granted through Nirvana. The evidence of this sacrifice can be seen in the dozens of corpses of children scattered throughout the temple grounds. There are also signs that countless more children were sacrificed. @@ProfessorShnacktime So, I know it's not a direct 1-1, but there _are_ a lot of interesting parallels. If one thinks of Gwyn as the 'first man, of the earth, earthy,' the being representative of the old order that requires continual renewal, put to death by the cross and replaced with a new order that stems from the 'furtive pygmy, so easily forgotten' (the stone that the builders rejected became the chief cornerstone), who even shattered his own soul into infinite fragments so it could be everywhere and a part of humanity, so it could _be_ humanity, (if a seed doesn't fall into the ground and dies, it abides alone, but if it falls into the ground and dies, it brings forth much fruit), it can be easy to see what Gwyn does as a parallel to the preservation and clinging to of the old law, and a rejection of the offering of life. You even kill his ally, the great dragon who is, essentially the source of sorcery, you slay death itself, the primal witch of chaos which created a mockery of life. . . some of the imagery has definitely been changed, but a lot of the same ideas are there. Gwyn and his Way of White have essentially departed from natural law, and the power of the furtive pygmy sets things to rights.

From Soft's games are interesting, because they've always flirted with a lot of Buddhist concepts, but Sekiro makes it so much more overt. Everything rots. All existence is suffering, and immortal existence is unending suffering. Even paradise will rot, turn to hell, drive all its inhabitants insane with its endless meaninglessness. NOTHING is meant to last forever, not even the gods and the spirits themselves. The only thing that is truly unending is the cycle of life and death, and you can try to stop that machine for a little while, but it will inevitably mangle you in its gears all the same.
@Narokkurai2 жыл бұрын
@@timl. But the only way to do that is to let go of all attachment, and remove yourself from your temporal existence. Life and death are simply fluctuations in the continuum of the world. @@initiald3748 what do you mean by not many epic songs? Sir Alonne Gael Midir Lorian and Lothric Lady Maria Divine Dragon Isshin Owl Corrupted Monk And many more are absolutely masterpieces. The thing about the monks is that they corrupted Buddha's teachings, they no longer seek to achieve nirvana. They only seek physical immortality and for this they committed horrible crimes such as the kidnapping and sacrifice of probably hundreds of children.
