"Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Did Something Tremendous" Well, the first 9 minutes were on Bloodborne, which wasn't even the last FromSoft game to be developed before Sekiro... but maybe this gets better from here. Alright, now he has spent a few minutes talking about the deep lore of the game, which in my experience was a little more shallow than most of the BloodSouls games, but it was still very well done, so kudos to them for keeping on with the very well established tradition... Okay, now he's talking about how the combat system forces you into one on one, fast paced, close range duels. Which is true. It was very well done, and it solidifies the samurai action movie feel of the game exceptionally well. Wait, that... that was it? He made a 19 minute video to spend 9 minutes talking about another game, then 5 minutes talking about how Sekiro's bosses were well fleshed out characters (something present in Demon Souls, Dark Souls 1-3, and Bloodborne), then a 1 minute 20 second segment about the actual amazing and unique part of the game? The feeling of having wasted my money because I felt like I was never gonna beat the game was a powerful feeling I had when I first played Dark Souls. It wasn’t a bad feeling, I just felt really unskilled and weak. But as I played through I conquered and I was proud of my triumphs. However, after a good 4 years of playing all of SoulsBorne I always feel like I can triumph eventually, which also isn’t necessarily bad but it made victory less sweet. Sekiro recaptured that feeling I had when I first played Soulsborne, all of a sudden I was the ‘casul’ who needed to ‘git gud’, *and I loved feeling like this again.* The enemies intrigued and challeneged me, I died more times than I can ever count to Genichiro (2nd encounter) and SwordSaint (Non-Shura). When you tell him to go there he says "My daddy is there"(sumthin along the lines). You can find a little room to the left as soon as you enter the dungeon and you'll find the letter of kotaro's father saying he's dying in the prison cell not finding a way to Ashina depths. Last words of the letter are "Kotaro... forgive me". When Kotaro turns into a monster he yells "Daddyy!" As soon as the fight begins 2-Armored knight, the senpou temple monks asked him to defend the bridge from any intruders and in return they will heal his son (btw robert's firecrackers are his son's firecrackers that were sold so they can travel to Japan). When you defeat the armored knight he died thinking he failed his son when in fact his son is dead just like all the rest of the children of the rejuvinating water except 1 3- Sculptor, a rogue shinobi who trained in valleys for all of his life with his friend(his friend is dead/missing). Someone who nearly got consumed by shura demon but saved by isshin, someone who no matter what always has visions of endless flames finally gets consumed by hatred turning into the demon of hatred ("Wolf... thank you" he says that when he dies and if you give him enough sake along with some eavesdropping Sekiro will recognize him) 4- too lazy to think of more

Fire paper or pine resins and other consumables were more impactful than any of the consumables in sekiro. Monk sugars are pretty worthless. The counters to status effects are about it and divine confettie for the select few bosses that is for.

thou FS Games share some similarity in all their games, what impresses me most is how to they change the gameplay in a subtle way and the game itself, the story, the art feels so naturally grows out of it. For example, in Bloodborne, the player is encouraged to attack continuously. As a result, way into the game, the player can feel they attack more viciously which is just like the process of turning into a beast. In Sekiro, the sensation is totally different, i feel a kind of calmness, almost zenlike. What is weird is that we are willing to embrace this kind of change, knowing the process could be painful but rewarding, and the outcome so sweet. (English is not my first language, so i may not express myself properly. Still, Bloodborne is always my favorite. The video is excellent, and thanks for your work!)

Gee! Thanks for recommending this small channel called VaatiVidya. I hadn't heard about this guy till now! His "lore analysis" of Souls games is pretty novel concept, but it's interesting. Still, I'm not too sure it's that necessary. After all, it's not like the story in these games is that hard to follow, so no wonder he isn't very popular. Just kidding, the guy is indeed great and there must be some poor souls who don't know his channel yet, but that made me giggle.

I usually like your videos but this has been awfully structured. I'm at minute 9, nearly halfway through the video and all you've been talking about is how great Bloodborne is. Meanwhile, the video is literally titled "Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Did Something Tremendous". So a dislike from me.

This makes me hope From Software chooses to branch out more not less. I'm sure another Bloodborne or Darksouls would do well and be worthy of their series but I would love to see this developer continue to dive into new gameplay styles that can still be familiar and provide new challenges to long time fans. Personally, I wasn't into From Software games until Sekiro came along and once I've had my fill of that, I'm very much looking forward to experiencing their older titles.

Bloodborne is where the Soulsborne model finally clicked with me. I had played Dark Souls before it, but it just hadn't quite got me there. I played it for a bit, got to a point where I couldn't figure out the way forward, and I just sort of moved on. But then I started playing Bloodborne, and suddenly was picking up all the little intricacies of the style, from there, I jumped on Nioh, another I absolutely loved, then the Surge, which was the weakest of any of them, but still, love the style, Salt and Sanctuary, 2D, still amazing. Had it not been for Bloodborne, I might not have given any of these a chance.

Sekiro was my first From Software title and it's one of my all-time favourite games. Can't wait for DLC or sequels. I think they've done something very innovative with the combat system. I love it. I love the story and its Buddhist themes. There's so many themes in there that most people might not even get it. But it's there. I really want to play Bloodborne but I'm a PC gamer and hate playing with a controller. I find it very uncomfortable and awkward. :( Maybe some day. There's Dark Souls at least.

@maxsvalgard93163 жыл бұрын
A lot of people are critiquing this video for it's use of Bloodborne as a framing device. I'm fine with that, but I think you didn't follow through properly with your comparative example in Sekiro. The example you gave in Bloodborne was all in world, experiential storytelling. The example you gave for Sekiro was taken from Sekiro's wiki, which is just text from a necklace. I think you could have made a much stronger case talking about the centipedes and fake immortal children, and how they relate to the guardian ape. Those examples are parallel and you can build to your other points from there.

I love all fromsoft games and I absolutely adored sekiro, for me the game is on par with DS1, my favorite fromsoft game and probably the best game I've ever played. But in the other hand let's not just keep showering them with praises, mainly because at this point I feel like lack of criticism is actually doing some bad for the game. Sekiro does have flaws and I think we need to discuss this because just praising then won't help them in the long run. Fromsoft still didn't fix camera, lock-on and wall issue (pinned to the wall and you absolutely see nothing), these are complaints players had from the first game and they didn't even bothered to address them yet. Some of the phases of certain boss fights seemed super unnecessary and all it did is to kill some great charecter moment just to gain couple of points in the "difficulty" department. The story is once again "a prosperous country in the brink of collapse trying to continue the prosperity using some supernatural means and in turn losing thier own sanity", it's was lordren and gwyn in DS1, Yharnam and blood ministration in bloodborne and Ashina and genichiro this time around. And stop with the poison area, and this cursed village thing already. And finally, STOP PUTTING FAST AMD JUMPY ENEMIES IN A TINY ROOM!! sekiro is a 9/10. But since nobody is even bothering to say anything criticism for the game. I just wanted to mention few.
@aswinottapilavil4955 жыл бұрын
@Fred Duwe Glad you think so, fromsoft games hardly gets any criticism and if someone does it's pushed back. The game is amazing but they does need to improve in some aspects, it's even more saddening that most of these issues are rather been carried over from previous games.
@aswinottapilavil4955 жыл бұрын
@Fred Duwe Well, you criticisms are valid and I mostly agree with them. But I did prefer sekiro over most previous games, I personally did not liked DS2 or 3. They were a disappointment for me coming Fri DS1. Bloodborne was great actually and I really enjoyed it. But Sekiro really hit home for me, the mobility really feels good (I have an issue when games doesn't let you jump, it's kinda weird and confusing for me), the combat for the most part is very satisfying and bosses were quite enjoyable in my opinion (thought some of the dragged on a bit longer than I would like). But yeah I do understand if someone isn't feeling this game, it has issues for sure.
@Sir_Robin_of_Camelot5 жыл бұрын
Yeah honestly the camera is my biggest issue with the game. They need to find a way to rotate the camera when you get pinned or zoom out and make the walls translucent or something. Too many deaths from this.
@aswinottapilavil4955 жыл бұрын
@@Sir_Robin_of_Camelot Yeah, I agree they really should fix that issue. It's been around from the first souls game and they still aren't fixing it. Armored warrior story is even more tragic. When you meet divine child of rejuvenation, she tells you that there were other children who were experimented on but she is the only one who survived. The fact that you never actually meet Robert, and the armored warrior is kind of guarding the bridge implies that monks took Robert and got him killed during experimentation. And instead of telling this to the armored warrior they assigned him on guard duty.

@@fewtag Cause maybe the gameplay isn't about constantly dodge and spamming R1. It encourages you to deflect and parry your enemies. It's about learning the enemies moveset and trying to find an opening in order to attack to break their posture and kill them in a single blow.
@fewtag5 жыл бұрын
@@Bloodhurl67 its dark souls but it swaps dodging for parrying and the parrying isnt even hard to do, its not about spamming R1, its about spamming L1. The openings are easy to find because they are super obvious in every fight, end of combo or large attack and thrust counters are so forgiving its hilarious. Again, its dark souls but it has way less variety of choices of how to play, hell you hardly even have to move aside from jump or dodge forward from time to time, just spam that L1.
