I love the subtle foreshadowing. At the guardian apes watering hole theres a waterfall. When near it youre able to dive into a small hole. At the bottom of that hole is what looks to be the remnants of a bridge with red rails just like the ones in the fountainhead palace and if you look at the antique map youll see that the fountainhead palace is positioned right atop the sunken valley. The waterfall at the guardian apes watering hole connects to the fountainhead palace, thats why bits of a fountainhead palace bridge has sunken to the bottom of the waterfall. FUCKN MIND BLOWN!!!

In the first encounter, I entered the carp cave and thought it was a boss fight right there. I had enough hp that he just barely didn't one-shot me, so I started figuring out strategies, like how to dodge and which walls are bugged and don't cause a stun. The carp has a bleed animation when hit so I thought it was taking damage. On my third try, I spent legit 15 minutes punching the fish before I finally died and realized that was probably not the way.

And whatever dies in the Palace waters ends up washed away by the waterfalls somewhere down there. Not saying I figured it out, just that the game expects you to. I didn't want to kill it after I saw that you can swim alongside it after you feed it regular bait. And I don't think the reward for killing it is worth it either. But I was curious on what happened if you did so I ended up here.

@@Thumb_ carp is fed the truly precious bait (which kills it) and goes back in the crater in the lake, for the carp to end up in the watering hole it would need to jump a whole lot of ground that's at the edge of the waterfall; the only way it could get there is if the carp jumps that obstacle itself, but why would it kill itself? Edit: maybe the bait had parasites that could control the carp in someway like those parasites that get into the stalks of snails

BONUS: After you get the whisker go back to the htara estate and go to the guy wanting to become a carp you will see his pot flipped over and him a small but faint carp he will have more items and ask for more scales claiming "too small... More.. please.. more scales.." one of his items will be lapis lazuli next up after that go to the feeding grounds where the npc will be calling for his master you will be givin the option to give him the whisker or not if you give him the whisker he proclames "ahh.. ahh.. ahhh.. so... he's passed.." he will give you a divine grass and go on to say his duty has been fulfilled

It's where the fountainhead waterfalls go. It's explained by Kuro IIRC that the white flower grows where the fountainhead spring is or smth like that (aka the watering hole)

No the fish was in control of the "man" who was feeding it, It had some curse on him so by killing the carp meant that he was released from his duty!
