What makes Isshin so special is how he is literally the whole game thrown at you in the form of a man. He has *everything.* Sword attacks to deflect, bullets to deflect, lance to Mikiri counter, wide sweeps that require jumping and even lightning reversal, all into one boss. If Genichiro was the gatekeeper, Isshin is the final test, and his _"well done, Sekiro."_ is directed at you. If you managed to beat him, it means you mastered the game's combat system, and you deserve respect, something that Isshin shows you in the end.

One of my favorite details about this fight is that not once does Isshin use the Mortal Blade's flames, he wants to fight and win based on pure skill and technique. The spear, gun, and lightning, he'll use everything but the sword that kills immortals. And in a way, he shows his respect to Sekiro in this way. Sekiro doesn't openly use the Mortal Blade, so neither will Isshin, he will simply use it as a sword, and nothing more. Until you fight Inner Isshin...

They even have opposite colors. Isshin is regarded as the sword saint and sekiro (which is only given to him by isshin.) Dies nameless "no one to mourn them". Both essentially living for battle were made for it but fight completely different. Isshin believing in honorbale battle and an honorable death. Sekrios combat is unorthadox and defies the morals of honor because hes immortal. Isshin went his whole life as a mortal but came back just to have an imortal stand off with both mortal blades. Elden Ring is overall a less flawed game. The only flaw is the enemies being repeated a lot, which isn’t that bad unless you want every enemy to be different. Sekiro has flaws with the combat when fighting multiple enemies at a time, and skills are pretty much useless besides a select few.
@massojupiter34362 жыл бұрын
I was expecting elden ring to have more of this type of combat. I personally think it is the best combat system fromsoftware has made. It kind of sucks going back to the stamina and the weight of your armor and only being able to roll as your main source of defense. Not to mention the cancels, in sekiro you can cancel an attack mid way in order to block or parry or dodge or jump or just move away in general, whether to reposition or to run away. Meanwhile elden ring if you throw it, you must commit 100% because there is no canceling. In my opinion it is just a lazy way to make a game feel more difficult. Taking options away just to make things feel harder. If sekiro combat was an option in elden ring, I really wouldn't be struggling as much as I am.

Sekiro and Bloodborne are my fav fromsoft ever done. Just finished Elden Ring i was in awe but i am still not sure, since theres still secrets of lore to discover from it, but from what ive experienced, the Elden Ring impact will take some time before a new game that gets released tops it, or at least level with it.

I’ve gotten the platinum trophy for every Soulsborne game to date and I will always say the two most challenging boss fights by a country mile is Darkeater Midir from DS3’s Ringed City DLC and this boss Isshin the Sword Saint. I’m a little partial to this boss being a little harder and feeling the most rewarding though. From all my Soulsborne game experience if I had to pick one boss as the “true final boss” of Soulsborne I couldn’t think of a better nominee than the Sword Saint. Artistry, difficulty, pacing, everything was like the finest Michelin starred meal.

Just got the platinum trophy and for me, Isshin is 3rd hardest boss in the game. Owl father and the demon of hatred give more trouble
@villar27022 жыл бұрын
To me isshin wasn't a hard boss but one that tested every thing you learned to fight against in terms of human enemies in the game, which is what made the fight that much more awesome. Owl father gave you the test of fighting against yourself, where he could use the same shinobi tactics you had been using throughout the game. And atlast there is demon of hatred which in my opinion is the most bullshit boss because there is nothing like it in the game, it made you play dark souls in sekiro, where dodging was the key component. However, in sekiro the dodge doesn't have any s so it makes demon of hatred one of the most annoying bosses to fight. I think I stopped playing sekiro for like a good week after I fought him for like 2-3 hours straight.
@purehollow2 жыл бұрын
I agree on demon of hatred , it took me 20 attempts most of them were death because of random ranged attack or dumb hitboxes , to defeat this boss I needed to understand how his Ai works not his pattern , I needed to predict what attack he is gonna do at what condition and act before he even does , the problem is the fight takes so long and you might end up wasting your resources before the third phase , that's why when I defeated him I was like I don't wanna do this ever again in my life
@m.douglas84922 жыл бұрын
Demon of Hatred is one of the best fights in the game in my opinion. If you've been having that much trouble, you're probably using too many step dodges.
@m.douglas84922 жыл бұрын
@Skibbity Bop Does it though? He has fairly few attacks you can deflect easily, but he forces you to use all the other movement options the game gives you, dodging, jumping, grappling and running are all required to counter his moveset. People say the boss is a dark souls boss in sekiro but I think it's not either a dark souls boss or a normal sekiro boss, but rather a test of your ability to use the unique movement options the game gives you.

Nah I'll be playing elden ring for years. Played Sekiro only twice, with a 2 year gap between each playthrough. Game was pretty fun but also very annoying. Parry parry parry parry parry, attack, get parried, rinse and repeat lol. Fights look a lot cooler in that game but the system made no sense, just parry and attack until the enemy magically falls over for a couple seconds so I can magically destroy an entire health bar.
