Selaco came out the other day, and I think it's one of the best indie games that has been released in years. It runs on a modified GZDoom engine, meaning that custom maps can be made using a fork of Ultimate Doom Builder. Having never made a Doom map before, I can say that it's much easier than I was expecting. within 30 minutes, I felt like I knew enough to make fun arenas to fight in, so I decided to start off with a simple map inspired by one of my favorite arcade games. Berzerk is a classic arcade game where the player shoots robots in a blue maze. There's a little more to it than that, but that's a basic enough concept that works well in a first-person shooter.
You can download the map on the Steam workshop here:

If you haven't already, please consider checking this game out. The combat is so good that even a basic map like this one is fun to play on. The enemies are very interactive and super smart. They prioritize their own life instead of throwing themselves at you like enemies in most games do. This game isn't just a doom reskin, it's something totally new that just happens to run on a modified doom source port.
Since this game is open source and has full mod support, and even integrates the Steam workshop, I would love to see this game have a huge mod community like Doom does. There are some really talented modders out there that I would love to see take advantage of this game's incredible combat system. Obviously, my map is pretty basic, but I've learned enough that I feel I could make some really cool maps one day.
I've also made a custom map for the 100 Meter Dash. While Selaco's combat is stellar, it also has really interesting movement mechanics, so it's great for speedrunning. Give it a try!
