This is why the newer generation of trappers need the more experienced guys to keep making videos and writing books. I have been in the trapping scene for 4 years and have never seen this before. Well done and thank you so much, I am going to put these on my boxes

Great set up Seldom, Sure will make checking weasel boxes easer.

Using a real spring would be a far better setup but most of my old boxes were setup just as shown and worked very well for me. Folks that are interested will make improvements.

Thanks for putting together some excellent videos Seldom… You’re a wealth of knowledge Any bait and lure tips for catching weasels ? Thanks
@SeldomFales Жыл бұрын
I sure do Eddie! I used a chunk of muskrat (a piece of deer liver will work) and a dab of Lenon’s Weasel All Call lure. Make sure you set right on weasel sign Eddie, very important for a quick catch.

weasels were my number two fur growing up ...right behind mushrats ... used the same 1.5 ls for both ...that is an old set no longer known

A couple of decades ago when I was using my tip-ups I made the mistake of showing my wife a couple of that day’s ermine. Waaaaay too cute and of course, how could you trap cute little animals like that. Well, they are a cute little animal so I quit. My weasel tip-ups became my chipmunk tip-ups until I got caught by wifey killing her cute little chippers!! LOL

Hi Leary, the modified boxes really work good. I think I was running maybe 10-12 weasel boxes and I had them all outfitted as tip-ups.

I've watched a lot of your coyote trapping videos and never knew you were trapping them in Michigan. I live in shiawassee county Mi and I am still trying to trap my first coyote. You make very informative videos and Happy New Year to you as well.

Now that I’ve quit trapping coyotes I’m planning on offering a consultation service to trappers having difficulties trapping coyotes and mink in my area.

I would be worried about the nail freezing in and the trap not firing or slowing it way down and not killing

Put the nail higher and you probably wouldn't need a spring mechanism ??
@SeldomFales2 жыл бұрын
You can put the hold-down nail as high as you want it but the whole point is to hold the flag down until the trap fires. Once the trap fires the flag needs to be such that it can be seen 20yds-40yds away. The whole purpose of the tip-up is to be able to check for a catch without tracks leading to it when I trapped Public lands and other people were in the general area.
