Man watching some of your videos brings back memories of my grandfather. he spent allot of time teaching me some of these things. My father as well when he could. rarely seen him cause he worked 16 hour days Anyhow just started watching your stuff and it really made me smile. He taught me allot about snares, box traps. He usually used a wood frame with wire walls and I remember we would take small willow branches and weave through the wire. made it kinda look like a bush. One thing for sure they worked great if you used the willow branches and not that well if you didn't. My grandfather was a Ranger WW11 vet so he taught me a few other things we won't mention. I was pretty young when he was teaching me this stuff. From about 8 till we had to move cause dads job relocated him. I was 12 I think. So allot stuck but allot didn't. So just wanted to thank you for the refresher course it all came back to me in about 2 minutes and thanks for taking me back into time to some great memories. Boy do i miss him. I like your attitude. I like your style. unlike some doing these videos. Its apparent you know what your doing. I think some of these guys watch your videos then go make their own. Lmao. Good day to ya. Merry Christmas Respects Charles

Nice box design; I do prefer half-inch coated steel mesh for the back instead of a solid board for both fisher and mink. They seem to shy away less and the scent of the bait gets out better with the air flow. It's also helpful to have a way to wire the bait in the back of the box if possible. With the mesh back you can simply wire the bait to the mesh if using a muskrat haunch or piece of beaver meat; with the solid wooden back I always make sure to drill a few holes through it and include a small piece of wire. Small animals like female mink and weasels will sometimes make it through the trap and steal the bait. If it is wired down, the animal will keep working the bait until it is caught. Nice job on the video, very insightful.

I'm late to this party, but holy ingenuity that treadle trigger trick is amazing. That's an awesome adjustment for the mink boxes.

Wire mesh back on the back of the box works much better , 2 out of 3 mink will not enter a closed box . When cutting the holes with the hole saw just go through until the bit pops through and turn the board over and finish drilling you will find the plug comes out easier .

Nice video. Thanks, for making and sharing. Made some of these set-ups for mink. Question. After I compress springs, i need to step on trap to fully compress the jaws. With step through pan, it makes this difficult. What do you do or recommend? Thank, you - Robert

Wonder how a bridger single coil #159 would work in a box like this for racoons? I'm completely new to trapping. At 30yr old i decided to take a dive and try it out

Is the overhang needed? I just can't think of a purpose for it to server other than keeping rain out of the box, but I don't think that would be an issue, would it?

I do the same thing with the 1 gallon milk carton and a 1x6. Don't know if it works for mink but it works really good for squirrels

nice set up bud. I made a bunch of those a few years ago as well. I opted for rabbit cage material for the back just so it released a bit more scent but....., looks good man

I hose the area down with shellfish oil to attract em' I saw a guy who catches tons of mink and his boxes were solid so I figured if it worked for him it might work for me, I have always just used a 110 in choke point, got one that way already this year at the trapping class but all education is relevant so I wanted to test it out-

Think I got a mink eating my chickens so I've been looking into how to outsmart the thing. This may be what I need to do but I bought 220 traps, guess I need to get some smaller ones?
