This is an absurd “demo”, as fewer than 1% of ANY images other than strictly studio work have anything CLOSE to the ridiculously uniform backgrounds shown here… I get that these are “demos”, but I’ve owed PXLM8 Pro since it came out, and the only thing more frustrating than the constant exclusion of features (due to Apple’s aggressive obsolescence model, & PXLM8r’s lockstep embrace via minimum supported OS restrictions to realize the new features) is the fact that I frequently somehow manage to STILL get better selections from my origin Pixelmator (both the MacOS & iOS versions) than I do via “Pro” And before anyone call me out for “sour grapes”, I am a decade-long investor and enthusiast in Pixelmator, owning ALL of their products on both iOS & MacOS (wherever they are available), and I still continue to believe in, and heavily use the products in my professional workflows. It’s just that such a long tenure will make one attuned to what may otherwise be completely undetectable to newer adopters, or nuance that may be missed by less experienced “power users” Lastly, I’d truly appreciate it if the DEV team would kindly address a question I have posed numerous times: why do you suddenly insist that Apple alone is to blame for the extreme exclusions in features based on the MacOS version? For one, the original Pixelmator, nearly, if not already past the 10-year mark since initial release, continues to receive minor updates and even modest to moderate updates WITHOUT the same OS restrictions (or at least any that I’m aware of) & 2nd (& unfortunately more damning), merely editing the P-List via a capable tool in MacOS (while ensuring the character/byte size remains a match) to trick PXLM8R PRO into returning a “true” Boolean for the minimum OS check “magically” enables all those features supposedly incapable of running on Catalina, for a most contemporary example, laying waste to the notion that Apple’s Metal 2 Graphics framework is the culprit… I really, REALLY hope this doesn’t become the norm for a truly beloved (& long deserving) company, whose quality of products and design have always been matched by their ethical devotion to their paying customers. (I won’t post the corresponding key value pairings that reveal the OS check to be a sham… for now, nut I think we ALL would appreciate an honest answer… and one need only about 2 min of a google search to discover “OpenCore” on GitHub to realize definitively that Apple’s min OS requirements excluding 2016-2017 models are even MORE insidious and utter fraud… be better PXLM8R

Excellent!!-- this was the first Pixelmator Pro video I've seen that made sense and was clear and easy to follow-- a real life-saver, thank you!! Just subscribed. Do you have a video on how to use the Pen tool? I'd like to be able to trace something with it-- there has to be a way to control those handles WHILE you're drawing with the Pen. I'd love to know the secret. The PP User Guide offers no help on this point. Thanks again!

I just purchased pixelmator pro and I can't find the select and mask tool... I only can select quick selection... and therefor I don't have the same options as in this video. Also is it possible to do a selction with the pen tool?

I wish you guys would make short tutorials for skin retouching. It would also be great if you could introduce frequency separation and film grain effects in later versions.

Some images are damn tricky to edit, but subtracting with the Refine Edge Brush really works if you size it properly. Well done!

Fantastic tutorial and fantastic app! So love the evolution of the app and the non subscription model, if in future need to charge for point upgrades like from 3.0 to 4.0 would understand but would still appreciate a non subscription based upgrade path. All the best!

There is a one-click Select Subject feature in Pixelmator Pro. If you want more intelligent one-click selections for selecting subject, sky, or background in a photo, you can try Photomator.

@@PixelmatorVideos Unfortunately in Pixelmator Pro aeyrwb. I can't find "Select Theme". I see it in the simpler Photomator editor. But I don’t see it in “Select Theme”. If you can tell me, I will be very grateful. I work a lot with landscapes. In LR I can easily highlight the sky. But I would like to learn how to process in my favorite Pixelmator.

That's right, this update requires macOS Catalina or later. We tend to support three versions of macOS at a time because we rely on native frameworks a lot and adding stuff using frameworks that aren't available in older versions of macOS is time-consuming or sometimes close to impossible. Hope you'll be able to upgrade to Catalina in the future, though!

Hey Gunter! It sure is easier (and looks more effective on video) but using the Select and Mask tool, you can extract subjects from much more complex backgrounds quite easily, too. You should give it a go and let us know how it goes at [e-mail]!
