I understand these are older posts, but DAMN! The research & commitment Gary had in his wet pets is just awesome! I’d love to know if there’s a book in progress. I learned about Gary via aquariumcoop, & while fantastic site, when my plecos bred I literally had no idea what to do next! I ended up offloading many to community for free & LFS via “pleading” bc I left my female in the tank for ~6 weeks & ended up with ~ 120 + babies... I did not expect that! I thought it would take a longer time for new spawn etc. anyway lots of people like myself interested in the hobby, would love more thorough info!

The paper towels do a great job, I believe, at letting bags breathe. But I always single layer breather bags with a space between layers - I would not pack the bags all right against one another. Greg Sage

When using breather bags they will do better against drops if some air is allowed in the bag. Water is not a compressible fluid, so when dropped it builds hydraulic pressure which can break the bag. Allowing a tiny bit of air in the bag allows that air to compress which causes a reduced pressure on the bag liner.

Very cool video. I'll admit that I have held off using the breather bags out of fear of them leaking. Do you find the paper towels do a good job separating the bags while allowing them to be stacked one on top of another and they still breath correctly?

Too bad you did not have a regular plastic shipping bag to make the comparison with the breather bags. I think that would have been interesting to compare. Love your videos and fish.

With regular plastic bags, if they are airtight to begin with, there should not be a problem. I have never had a regular plastic bag explode or break open in shipment. As well, regular plastic bags are always double bagged, so if the inner bag stays intact all should be good. ,

Additionally if one used breather bags to ship how and were do you suggest to place the heat source?

Because heat packs should be allowed to "breathe" for an hour before being used to ship, to burn off its initial oxygen use as it warms up, I pack the boxes and put the heating packs in last, the top. Because of the thick Styrofoam boxes that I normally use, I don't feel that the heat pack being on the top or the bottom makes any difference.

Can corydoras catfish be shipped in these bags?

I have not tried shipping Corydoras using breather bags, but I do not use the breather bags with the Synodontis lucipinnis or the green dragons because of their spines. I would imagine that corys would be similar.

This was not a good test, There were no fish in the bags, But... I also tested these breather bags, this size doesn't fit over my head, So I got the larger ones and... well that's all remember till I woke up and some fat guy was kissing me.

It is ridiculous how ugly most of the "Green Dragons" being bred now are. Just plain ugly brown short-finned BN's. I can't believe people are actually selling them as Green Dragons. It's so scammy. Your fish are gorgeous!
