Great chat about the science and physics of the cooling system. You obviously have a wealth of knowledge and first-hand experience on the subject. I'm amazed that with a little pressure (7 to 16 PSI) you can maintain 180 to 195-degree temps in a cooling system fitted with a properly sized fan and related shrouding. I enjoyed your explanation of fan placement, size, and airflow considerations. Much respect to anyone who has had a cooling system that was underperforming and resolved the issue with these guidelines. Work safe, stay cool, happy cruising! Good video. I had a 0.60 289 Reed Cam in my Mustang. Went to a two long row Cold Case aluminum radiator Seal 301020049 electric fan. Worked great till the electric fan did not work in Florida heat. The first comment when I post is why did you not look at your temp gauge? Easy answer, terrible rude Florida drivers who cut you off, break at the last minute and have zero respect for other drivers while getting nowhere faster. You so far have the best video. And the only one talking about fan depth. This is the first major issue I have had with this engine since 1998.

I've got a moderately built Ford 427FE stroked to 449. It's in my '68 Ford F-100 and I run a four-row Champion aluminum rad. I have an electric fan that runs connected to my Edelbrock EFI system. I can adjust the fan temps on the fly, and I set it to kick in based on the SoCal weather. I can keep that thing under 185º all day long. Thte rad also cools the tranny (C6) fluid, and is plenty to keep me on the road. Using a single electric fan in the center with a shroud.

Fan Fan Fan.. i was just thinking about .. wondering about which fan will work when I put the SBC in the Rat Rod. I ran the original old steel 4 blade in the Caddy. Would like to run the same in the Chebby. Want to keep the engine so that the driveshaft still works to the t-5 and was wondering if the fan would be near enough to the radiator. Just me mulling over rat rod stuff here.
@RustyGlovebox
@RustyGlovebox 5 жыл бұрын
With both your cars having the engine exposed , you shouldn't have to much of a problem. A flex fan is simple but it needs to line up with the rad to get a good air flow. Good luck on what you install.

@@RustyGlovebox Started sorting through the engines yesterday and found the 4 bladed fan for the 283. I didn't measure the caddy motor but probably should just to ease my mind, but it doesn't matter. I'll make it fit. I like the old fans on the rat rods. Think I kind of lean towards a traditional hot rod look more than some. Probably because I'm an old guy.. hahaha.

several years ago there was a flex blade fan company up here at Rolla, I think it was schwitzer , they moved out and B&S moved in for a while and now, as far as I know , nothing is in the building, I had a clutch fan on my 67 4-4-2 and it locked up,, talk about noise and the dust would just boil our from under the car on a gravel road.

Hey great video I just install dual electric fans in my chevy tahoe. I noticed while testing these efans knocks the battery completely dead. Im considering going back to a clutch fan or maybe combination of both. My question is do I need to reflash my pcm to get the clutch fan to work again.

Great video thanks brother. A lot goes into the equation when choosing one. I remember the first Monticarlo probably spelled wrong. I opened the hood and the fan shroud looked like a quarter of a 50 gallon drum. We use two electric fans on the simi race trucks. They do a great job and they are also helping cool the power steering. The power steering system we have going through a oil cooler. The race car I worked on was a flex fan and I didn't like it at all . This video will help out a lot of people. Keep up the great work see you in the next video thanks again brother
