Recently found your channel and am finding a lot of helpful information. For kitchen flooring, I want to do a harlequin pattern and am considering lineoleum tiles. I don't see anyone talking about this. It is a natural product, soft underfoot, easy to clean, long wearing, and not terribly expensive. Any thoughts?

the "satin finish shows brush marks" is NOT your imagination. My husband and I worked our way through graduate school as house painters. there is an easy fix for this problem: add a bit of Floetrol Clear Latex Paint Additive. A small amount of this additive mixed in with paint works miracles. It is the only way to get rid of an orange-peel-skin texture when spraying, it magically levels out brush strokes, and does not affect hiding ability or paint finish. Specify it with your painter(s) along with a "Level 5" finish; i.e., flawless under a strong raking light. Floetrol adds costs and painters are reluctant to user it unless you specify it. Love your channel - keep up the good work!

You are the second person to mention this- super useful information. I’m going to spend time digging into this area more. It definitely isn’t a strong knowledge area of mine (defer to painters on our projects). Thank you!

We are bringing sealed hardwood into our kitchen and family room space this summer. Glad to hear it is a good choice. Also, we have never had cabinet hardware. I just really don't like the look of all the knobs, pulls and handles.

I’m am looking at hardware for a new kitchen. What are your thoughts about brushed gold taps and handles in the kitchen. It is a predominantly white kitchen that faces black framed windows. I know the obvious choice would be matte black hardware but I was trying to ‘soften’ the look a little. My other question is pairing that brushed gold tap with either a stainless or gunmetal coloured drop in sink? I thought the brushed gold sink might be a bit ‘too much’……Or maybe it’s not? I have already renovated a bathroom (which is a fair way away from the kitchen) where I put matte black taps so maybe I should just stick with the matte black now?

See my answer on the other video you asked. Mixing metals is a good option, not a fan of brushed gold sinks!

Great topic. There are paint additives like Floetrol that are supposed to even out a painted surface and brush strokes.

Interesting- I’ve never worked with them. I wonder if they are worth the addition.

@@hsdesignstudio lol yeah I have had a lot of guests say they don’t care for my counters and a lot say they love them. Not sure I have ever had anyone not have strong feelings one way or the other. This is why I tell people find one or two elements they love and build around them. As a chef I have an emotional attachment to stainless and walnut in my kitchen. As we work on laying out our new house it’s a hard conversation on what we want to keep from the old or try something totally different. One of the reasons I love and appreciate your content.

I appreciate that, thanks. We have exposed electrical conduit in our kitchen. Ties in with the industrial design in other spaces and it was WAY more affordable when remodelling because of how the house is built. We like it, but guests go either way, just like your stainless counters. In the end, it’s your space, not theirs!

@@hsdesignstudio exactly! It’s your home let it speak to you. I love exposed structural/infrastructure but sadly the wife does not. Glad someone got to run with it lol.

Great topic! Easy to clean is one of my top criteria for our home remodel. As to appliances, do you have any insight into the Invisacook induction cooktop that is placed under a porcelain or granite counter? Since it is under the counter, it is as easy to clean as a countertop, with the added benefit of giving one added countertop prep space when not being used to cook. I haven’t been able to find many reviews on invisible cooktop options like Invisacook. I’m curious how effective, reliable, and safe for your counters this easy-to-clean cooktop option would be.

I’ve had a few clients go the Invisacook route in their remodels. The initial reactions have all been great, but I have yet to here/see any long term reviews. From my understanding, porcelain is the preferred countertop material which has its own pros and cons.
