Nothing wrong with air setups- I still have my Paslode framing nailer on air. They are just a little more annoying when it comes to smaller jobs when lugging out the compressor, hoses, finding power, etc becomes annoying.

Do sidewall vents stain exterior walls?
@hsdesignstudio
@hsdesignstudio 21 күн бұрын
Good question - I don't want to give you a blanket answer of "no" because it will come down to what you are cooking and what the exterior material of your home is. Certain materials more prone to picking up cooking grease, and the lighter options will then collect dust and dirt on the sticky grease thus discolouring walls. However, that is not what I would call a regular occurrence.

Open bathrooms so you can be with your guests then.... My guests are my friends and they are welcome in the kitchen, kitchens have doors, and actually it does not take so much time to prepare meals, specially when I have guests, most of the work is done before the guests arrive. Also the more open, the more dust and need to clean and tidy up.

I really enjoyed your personalized approach to IKEA kitchens. We are considering this route. One thing in this particular install. The under cabinets are flush. I think this looks unfinished. I would install a 3.5 inch solid wood skirt to then use as a place to hide lighting under the cabinets. This idea of under cabinet lighting beautifully illumines the countertop work place. Ikea sells 12 volt lighting so I would install a 12volt transformer to supply low voltage lighting that Ikea supplies.
@hsdesignstudio
@hsdesignstudio Ай бұрын
Thanks for your input. This was originally meant to be a rental propert ly of ours and budget was at the forefront. Adding and under cabinet deco strip/valence does help finish off the design. Two important notes though- 1) it can also become quite traditional looking aesthetically if you aren’t mindful, and 2) I would not use IKEAs lighting system. We properly install a low voltage wiring system into the walls before the kitchen goes in. It’s hardwired into your home and then functions on standard light switches.

Gas is so amazing. I don’t think I’ve ever cooked on induction stove so I don’t really know how that works. Do your pans get heated evenly or is it the same as electric? If the pan is to big or too small does it influence the quality of the food?
@hsdesignstudio
@hsdesignstudio 2 ай бұрын
Induction and electric are in totally different leagues. My wife and I had a high end gas range in our last home. We just moved to a new home and it had an electric range with a burnt out element. We cooked on it twice, then immediately bought a nice induction range. I love the induction. Fast, super even heat, with WAY less cleaning. You choose the "burner" according to the size of pan. We have no trouble with our largest burner and a big fry pan. The biggest draw back to induction is the need for induction ready cookware.

I have all pneumatic, but you have some great points, I hate that I have to drag my compressor around and setup for small projects, and I hate when I trip on that hose and my gun smashes on the ground, or when the hose gets all wrapped up on my project pieces across the table. I am afraid I won't like how bulky and heavy these tools are, but I think the benefits outweigh the cons. I'm going to give it a try, worse thing that can happen is I return it. Thanks for the video, awesome!

It’s funny- I am largely switched over to battery. I built a pull shed this past week and didn’t want to lug out my compressor and framing nailer for the three walls. It’s the only nailer I don’t have in battery. The weight takes some getting used to no doubt, but I would never go back to being tethered by a hose!

You could try a flush trimming jig for a router. Basically you add a piece of plywood to half of your router base and then lower the bit down until it is flush with that base, then start trimming the window jamb flush with the wall. Woodworkers use this trick to flush trim dowels on their projects

What happens if you have existing 4-inch ductwork straight through the ceiling to the roof and it is very difficult to change this. It appears all of the range hoods require 6” or more. Should one just consider the ductless option?

Not every hood requires 6”, double check your model. If it does and you only have 4”, you are in for some work. This is what I call the waterfall effect in renovating/upgrading our homes.

We have just bought a house with a cooker hood that has no vent. I believe that means it must be a recirculation design. However the house we have bought it has left disgusting grime marks all over the top of the cupboards and on the roof above it. Is it possible to add a vent to a recirculation cover to make it vent out instead / add a pipe to the extraction area/fans to blow the output out of a window instead?
@hsdesignstudio
@hsdesignstudio 2 ай бұрын
Congrats on the house! It all depends on whether the current hood vent is capable of being set up for extraction to the exterior as well. Most recirc options are set up for both and it is just a matter of running the pipework.

I LOVE the corner cabinet using two half depth shelves. No moving parts The lower half shelf on the left wall and the higher one is on the right wall. This had room for the floor space on the left wall for mid to lg size pots/pans, the left self left side for my vitamin blender & extra top attachment, left shelf - mid & right side shelf for both of my med sized le cruiset dutch ovens, the right floor for my tall food processor and bin of blades etc for it, right shelf - mid and left side for 3 frying pans and wok stacked by two, the middle floor open space was plenty large enough for my very wide and tall stock pot and really there was still room left if I HAD to hold more in there. Currently I'm in an apartment during a home Reno and there is a straight corner cabinet with a right-side door, it has a full length half shelf on top but NOT usable toward the back at all. I can barely fit anything in it. No love there, it could use a pull out for sure!. My new kitchen has the same long cabinet and now I know I MUST have a pull out, Darn I will miss my corner cabinet where it was all very accessible with a simple door and cheap shelves and no reach issues.

We are currently renovating and I probably will remove the pantry and make the kitchen bigger instead. It blocks a lot of light from the window and its hardly more storage. The only "positive" I see is, that I have the space to just put some "ugly" stuff or boxes on the floor like for sorting trash (glas, metal...). For the "small appliances"; I will buy mostly multi purpose stuff so I won't have anything on the counter. But well see....

@SihAza
@SihAza 2 ай бұрын
For the blind cabinet to work with a magic-shelf, the door needs to be ~24" wide. In the video, the door beside the range is only ~1 ft wide so most magic-shelves wouldn't fit, or if they did they wouldn't access the full 24" depth of the adjacent cabinet since the inner shelf could only slide in 1 ft past the entry cabinet.
@hsdesignstudio
@hsdesignstudio 2 ай бұрын
Most magic corners do not need 24” doors. Very few corner cabinet doors are 24” (that is a big single door). Typically it is 18-21” for access. Even then, the full blind corner cabinet interior is not used. There is always a certain amount of ‘dead’ space in the very back. In my opinion, it is still a better use in most cases than completely blocking off and eliminating a corner when storage is usually at a premium for most kitchens.
