I installed a vented kitchen hood and can't be more happy!!!!! There's no humidity, fumes and odors left after cooking, mainly on clothes and fabrics. It's not that difficult or expensive if DIY, but need a minimum of common sense and patience!!!!

Omg! I was already going to use white Corian countertops in my kitchen, but now I'm gonna use them as my backsplash in a color and have a "grout" desin etched into it! And I will def get the countertops that wirelessly charge phones!!❤

My mom has 17 year old glacier white Corian countertops that still look beautiful! And they feel so nice when you run your hands over them. Not cold at all. I'll be getting them in my kitchen when we renovate our kitchen in 18 months.

I probably pick the soapstone.I like natural stone and just use oil.My kitchen is for cooking not for showing shiny ✨ perfect countertop.I like heat resistant,no stain and even scratches that I can sand and fix by myself before my husband realizes!Best part.😂The colour change over time is interesting and curious.I don’t get bored same looks after years using.Sounds like the soapstone alive, unique and has character.😊Actually these comments are helping!🙏🏻

What about the heat that gets sucked out of the house via the vent.? Will the moisture build up outside where the vent is? Will I get ice hanging on my brick wall?

This need to put hot pans and pots on top of countertops is ridiculous! Most people grew up with laminate or formica countertops, and our parents would kill us if we put hot pans/pots on them. We've all been trained NOT to do this. So, when you say Quartz and Corian can't take heat, that isn't a negative. It's an obvious fact. They make these nifty things called TRIVETS. They make silicone trivet pads if you absolutely HAVE to put a hot pan on the counter. Easy solution.

I have a white kitchen that wowed me when we bought the house in 2019. But reality quickly set in. I hate white kitchens now! Besides being boring and stark, it's remarkably HIGH MAINTENANCE!! With 2 kids, 3 dogs, and a husband, I have to clean them EVERY single day to keep them white and not dingy or dirty like a used rag. My mom has cherry wood cabinets from 2008, and she only cleans them a few times a year beyond wiping up any spills. White shows every thing.😭 White kitchens are great for empty nesters, sinlge people and couples without kids. We are renovating our kitchen in a year, and we will have midtone wood cabinets (lighter walnut or maple), white countertops, and a pantry cabinet that is colored like blue. Black vent hood, matte black handles, matte black faucet, and a white apron front workstation sink will accompany them. So, the sink and the countertops will be the only white things in the kitchen. Also, induction cooktop with electric convection oven and a counter depth refrigerator are on my list. No more behemoth refrigerators either. No more food getting lost or forgotten in the back of the fridge.

I am definitely for the closed kitchen. besides the listed reasons, I hate it when someone sticks their nose in my pots and starts asking me why I do what I do like this and not otherwise, or think that they have better ideas for my kitchen. and, categorically, not to help me wash the dishes. the guests' place is in the living room/dining room, that's all, the kitchen is mine and I don't want intruders there.

It all comes down to money. If you are on a budget IKEA is the way to go. You get way more function for a decent price. Especially when you can install it yourself, you can save a lot of $$$. If your budget is a lot bigger custom cabinets might be a nice way to go but I don't think they will exceed IKEAs functionality unless you go into high end stuff.

You have completely missed the vertical solution - a vertical cabinet 'drawer'. Use it as a coffee station, a big mixer cabinet, etc. Mount the vertical 'drawer' on ball bearing drawer slides mounted vertically and use either a 'televator' tv lift, an electric scissor lift or make a couple simple brackets and use a plain linear actuator. Now you can use more of that space than any other way allows and you really haven't added to much cost to it. Surround the inside of the lower face of the countertop with a lip and add a foam strip to prevent spills from entering. You can even add an inside receptacle, connected by SO cord, inside it for coffee makers, blenders, mixers...

I do not need to design my house based on getting guests involved in cooking. Most people are not master bakers and do not make amazing baked smells. There are too many times something burned in the oven, bad frying smell ect. I will take peace of mind and a better home over more communication.

Not assuming you need a new layout is really good advice. Im keeping the layout and changing out sink countertop installing drawers in base cabinets higher upper cabinets. New and more lightning and outlets. Installing a two seating peninsula instead of four seating kitchen table ( two people in the house and have a dining room next to kitchen). With drawers and built in Microwave and toe kick drawers The peninsula is in the same height as the window so the countertop will expand to also be a larger window sill. New handels and floors and painting. Fridge freezer pantry dishwasher stowe and sink are in the same place as before

Do sidewall vents stain exterior walls?
@hsdesignstudio2 ай бұрын
Good question - I don't want to give you a blanket answer of "no" because it will come down to what you are cooking and what the exterior material of your home is. Certain materials more prone to picking up cooking grease, and the lighter options will then collect dust and dirt on the sticky grease thus discolouring walls. However, that is not what I would call a regular occurrence.

Open bathrooms so you can be with your guests then.... My guests are my friends and they are welcome in the kitchen, kitchens have doors, and actually it does not take so much time to prepare meals, specially when I have guests, most of the work is done before the guests arrive. Also the more open, the more dust and need to clean and tidy up.
