Thanks dude. I have been listening to this type of "American Primitivism" music for the past 6 months or so, think it started from Linda Perhacs then bounced around to some of the popular folk bands and then started bending it to the more weird, like was listening to a lot of John Fahey, Ravi Shankar, Jackson C Frank, Nick Drake, etc. Anyway Spotify recommended me Robbie Basho's "Live in Italy 1983" album and that was awesome, so was Venus in Cancer which is his other album on Spotify. I saw this is has last one that's not a compilation, so I wanted to know more about it. thanks

Thanks for this Darren. I have listened to a lot of acoustic players in my time but I have never heard of Basho.Very impressive and unique.

Visions of the Country floored me when I first heard it, and remains his most potent, consistent, even varied. It's more of a compilation of his than a studio album despite being labelled as the latter, with the recordings made across six years the '70s. Stylistically you've got a good number of vocal pieces, a rare couple on the piano, and the guitar instrumentals are more digestible to a new listener, going from more classical American primitive to the ambitious style he self-described as "classical". After that I'd say Zarthus, Venus in Cancer, and Art of the Acoustic Steel String Guitar if the guitar playing itself fascinates you.

Zarthus is really good , The Voice Of The Eagle and his lost album Songs Of The Great Mystery.

Would have been more interesting to watch a video with your review of the DVD/CD. David Gilmour - Live at Pompeii both the visual production and the album. Myself and I would assume several others came on board becsuse of your Genesis and Pink Floyd related stuff. Because of your Expert reviews I also started to listen to Yes and King Crimson. I sincerely think you are at your best here. I watched your Primer videos countless times Even Coffee time with gossip and opinions about the band members and the intrigues are funny. Mix in some SCI fi reviews and opinions about EU and Britain like you did. Miss one channel like before.
