She was such an inspiration to so many people, and the fact that she was not only an incredible performer but you could tell that she was a lovely person in real life also, not in the least bit arrogant or pretentious, very down-to earth, kind and caring and warm-hearted. I'm actually Scottish myself, but Selena's legacy resonates just as much with me as it does with the Latinx people. She was amazing! Being a Latina myself, I grew up in a household that listened to Tejano music day in and out. Selena was always playing and I learned how to dance my first Cumbia to Bidi Bidi Bom Bom. My white best friends parents went out and bought her album. That was huge for me. It made me feel accepted. It was so cool to hear her music during carpool after school amongst white people! I found out she was shot after I hopped out of the school bus and found my mom bawling her eyes out in the living room. We road tripped to the funeral and to her home to pay our respects.
