This level traumatized me as a little kid. Watching Lara turn to gold just caught me off guard and frightened me, even after my grandfather told me about the legend of King Midas. I didn't even go near the Tomb Raider series again until 2010. And now this is my favourite level in the game, even the whole series.

i never understood what happen there at the time. i was 10 when i played this and didnt realise at first, that its supposed to be gold and i didnt understand, why it happend. it felt random to me, i knew nothing about midas and the myth. i could tell that it was scripted and supposed to kill you, but it had no context at all to me. same as if you have a dropping rock from the ceiling as a random trap, or have a round well, where you just explode, if you walk in it. never knew, that its context iam missing, i just saw it as an idea on how to kill and trap the player

ChatGPT sometimes "loses the memory", cuz u can't keep feeding it all previous prompts, for it to understand the situation, so it only has the most necessary info and the short-term memory is continuously being refreshed That's why she simply doesn't stay consistent with her own words
@lcmiracle
@lcmiracle Жыл бұрын
@@narrativeless404 I guess that's why. The attention mechanism would make much earlier "memories" into miniscule values in the decoder it would have no effect on the output. Always wonder if there's a way to implement some kind of mechanism to judge if a "memory" is important, like if one is to keep 1000 most recent responses from Laura (not in the model, just in the code), let's call this the short-term memory. Then, say, we have a list for 10 memories, call it the "long term memory", in which the most top time highest-occurance "memories" are kept. Each time Laura says something new, find if something similar has been said before in the short-term memory list; if so, remove the previous "memory" and put the new "memory" in its place and increase its occurrence count, otherwise, replace the memory on the short term memory with the lowest occurrence count (even if it's greater than 1). Each time a short-term memory count is changed, check if that memory has an equivelant in the long-term memory, and replace in order of occurance count into it. That way, if Laura says it's a video game a lot, ideally it would be on top of that priority list. Then every time you generate text, append the 10 "memories" to the input, after who Laura is and what the current situation is.
@narrativeless404
@narrativeless404 Жыл бұрын
@@lcmiracle Yeah, but ChatGPT will have hard time processing all of that And having that much stuff in short term memory is unrealistic even for a human brain And this would be a long term memory if it's stored outside of the model and processed on demand Short term memory is real-time processing memory, it's directly related to attention and task scheduling And typically you don't ever have more than 10 things in short term memory at once Having a 1000 memories would take more processing power and make it less effective at emulating self-awareness Short term memory is like CPU cache Long-term memory is like RAM
@lcmiracle
@lcmiracle Жыл бұрын
@@narrativeless404 Is FoxMaster using ChatGPT though? The pricing on that... unless this guy has a massive amount of research credit or they are filthy rich, otherwise I'd imagine an open-source alternative would be used. It won't be that difficult to use a "Question & Answering" text generation model, which involves an question text as well as a reference text as input. The generated text is then generated based on the reference text according to the question. And regardless, if FoxMaster has access to the encoder-decoder of the model, how to "compress" previous texts into the attention matrix is a pretty straigth forward matrix calculation. Basically the dev can write their autoencoder to take account of those inputs. Meanwhile, the short and long-term memory I proposed before isn't stored in the attention mechanism, in fact, both would be stored in RAM as separate components of the AI architecture, used to modifiy the autoencoder

@@narrativeless404 all of the basic knowledge has the highest priority when generating a new response, iirc they explained that in the first vid. especially with things related to Lara's personality and acknowledging that she knows she's in a video game. i think it's mostly due to the AI still trying to just rationalize the context even with knowing they are in a game world

I liked it when Lara finds Midas' hand and as she tells the legend she immediately reminds herself that she already has worth and she explores just for sport as if she had been about to succumb to her intrusive thought of gaining Midas' power. I saw it as a way for Lara to stay true to herself since I suppose the fact that she spent weeks or even months exploring tombs would affect her sense of reality a bit and she would try to stay grounded. I think they are small details that make her more human.

My guy, the commentary on this level is great, so much improvement! Lara's train of thought to explain her backtracking and how to not get lost was 👌chef's kiss. I think it's the best so far, congrats! Lara is so insightful, attentive and reflexive, loved it. Reminds me on how we used to play it when it came out. When we played TB1 we did so as a family (hence the "we") mainly my dad played and we all watched like a movie. It was our first videogame, christmas 1997 I think. He was terrible at it 😂 so we had a lot of time to observe everything! And so often my mom would comment on Lara's instant dry hair and clothes, not as as insult but as proof of Lara's amazingness. She was so determined she wouldn't sleep or eat! How the music would start at specific times made it so cinematic it was mindblowing. We could hear the direction the animals, and they were so realistic! We would talk about the temples too, the plants resilience, how some ceilings had holes we maybe could escape from (but not Lara, she was there to work!) how would the animals survive (we always pitied the bears because they were always alone, at least the wolves had friends), the quality of traps and woodworking that lasted for thousands of years, and we observed the symbols and strange textures with so much curiousity. And yes, the 3D skeletons were very spooky hehe. I won't even tell you how insane it was to see that t-rex! We were screaming both scared and amazed, and my poor dad barely knew how to run and shoot at the same time. As you can guess, we didn't finish the first level (I think it's Peru). However, when my older cousin came to visit during the summer of 1998, in two weeks he played almost all of the game (checking the wiki I can recognize most of the level of Egypt) we were flabergasted! He was hailed as a genius in our house for years, the best gamer ever haha. Such great memories

When you play this "normally" I think the creators EXPECTED everyone to die at least once to discover the hand is dangerous. Killing players was just normal in early games. The deductive reasoning of the hand being dangerous only comes after you've already died. The video we see may just be the final successful playthrough after AI Lara has died multiple times already. Though since foxmaster is obsessed with this game, probably knew about the one spot to stand on the hand and not die, and told the bot how to do it as well, lol.

You know, watching the first couple episodes of this series, I couldn't believe how well this works, even considering that it's all edited together from a full-day process. In your first episode, you went over the basic concepts surrounding how your AI works, but I would love love LOVE a more in-depth explanation of the full feedback loop. How does the AI understand intent, memory, and problem solving, and how many times is that information looped back into itself? How much does the ChatGPT element know about the game world? How much does the output of ChatGPT influence the intent of the robot? How closely are her comments correlated with the true 'inner intentions' of the bot? I would also love to see an overlay over the footage showing the neural pathways and how they are activating. If you could just indicate things like, 'I am currently confused/exploring/fighting for my life' etc, but also things like which buttons it is activating in response to which stimulus. Visual, auditory, and inner monologue. That kind of thing. Maybe it's complicated, but I think if we could see the neurons activating as she plays, it would go a long way to explain the brilliance of this model. Because to be perfectly honest, the performance of this bot is a true breakthrough. It's absolutely amazing. And on the first episode, there are a great deal of comments claiming that this whole thing is fake. That's how well this works. People actually think it's a hoax. You do understand how brilliant this is, don't you? People actually don't believe it's real. So I think seeing the inside of the bot's brain a bit, using that neuron activation overlay idea, would go a LONG way toward really proving how advanced the AI model is.

But then these let's play videos can stay as they are because they're super entertaining as is. I'd also be really excited to see the LC bot play other games!

He won't show it because it's not real. Come on... You're hinting at it yourself. If it was, it would be a landslide in the AI field (somehow created out of nowhere by a single individual that never showed any indication of being trained in the field, talking about it all at once showing it already in the final state of being able to complete whole levels, not gradual progress on what would be a beast of a project), not just a tool for creating quirky youTube videos. He's only interested in engagement, that's why the controversy suits him. And that's why he likes every single comment, even those who are only criticising the deception. When asked, he never gives any substantive answer, just vague answers giving up that he doesn't understand basic things about AI, programming and even computers in the first place. I mean, only the feat of building an AI that analyses screen information to be able to somehow navigate (not even complete) a game like Tomb Raider would be mind-blowing (look at what it actually entails for an AI to only learn to drive around a Mario Kart track, and how clunky it looks like in certain parts even after dozens of hours of learning one simple track: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eIi6Z4mcl656qqs. And driving on a track is just steering, accelerating, braking. Whereas being able to analyse a 3D environment with platforms and plan a course of jumping from one to the other is a whole different order of magnitude). On top of that, we should believe that this AI is trained to perform more like a human would (looking around, being artificially careful in certain areas where a basic AI would learn the most efficient path and stick to it, backtracking, solving puzzles), and also trained to engage in combat in a 3D environment, dodging threats, when he never gave a single hint of explanation as to how that part works. And, on top of that top of that, we are supposed to believe that there is analysis of audio and (very crude) video cues, and that it is able to reflect on its environment and condition as a game character, and that there is a back and forth loop that allows gameplay to be influenced by what ChatGPT says ? Finally, if it was true, with how many times people asked, he would already have proudly provided better evidence for it. My best guess is that runs are a mix of recorded human gameplay and some created with tools for assisted speedruns, and that dialogues are humanly created with some help from ChatGPT, and then the voice audio is AI-generated.
@unlimitedpower0
@unlimitedpower0 Жыл бұрын
My theory is that if any of this is real, then a human is solving the complex puzzles, or at least providing inputs and then the bot is exploring the level in the way he outlined in the video. I also think some or even a lot of the dialog is human influenced, like its being filtered for the most interesting lines out of a deluge of dialog.@@john_reese

God these are always so cool. I can image so many other games doing this like resident evil 4, or literally anything that includes a character that speaks. Makes it so interesting.
@AerisShenlin
@AerisShenlin Жыл бұрын
I don't know about that. Take Silent Hill. The protagonist speaks a lot, and so do their fellow characters. Isn't this Tomb Raider series so very special because Lara really doesn't speak much in the original game? To me, that's the largest part of enjoyment here. To have my old heroine come to life and talk and have that personality that was always projected onto her but did not much translate into the actual gameplay, is an absolute gem. Compared to that, a game where the characters speak a lot already would not really benefit from more talk. And in the case of Resident Evil, don't you think a fearless, logical AI would just go "a zombie! Haha!" and kind of destroy the ambience a little?

I've watched this whole series and have really enjoyed it. I would like a video covering the "decision flowchart" you posted sometime. One thing i will say, is when it comes to the cut scenes of doors opening, Lara doesn't instinctively head over to the door when it's several rooms away, she knows a lever had done something but have to figure out what and where, like the AI can easily direct her to that door, but instead work it out by remembering where doors were closed or undiscovered rooms which where the door had opened, and also solving puzzles the same way a human would, trial and error

@@Fletchlie OK nerd time: The reason the song triggers twice is because of the "flip map". A flip map is when a room changes in the level. In this case, the room where Lara pulls the block out to collapse the ceiling in order to cross. For some odd reason, the flip map also affects the Midas room. IDK why. BTW you can undo the collapsed room with the use of some glitches to reset the flip map.

Wonderful content, please keep it up!!! Looking forward to more self- aware Croft!!! Glad I found your channel through YT recommendations. Two questions, @FoxMaster, if you could please answer for me: 1. The sounds she makes at the end of each level she completes are scaringly garbled and sort- of sound like she's in 'pain', as if the level transition 'hurts' her. Is that deliberate to the GPT program that is running during the end of the level or? 2. I wanted to inquire from you if, after you are done with this series, you could continue with the previous series whereby you broke down every level of TR1 using the 3D generation of the different mazes/ levels? I really enjoyed looking at those 3D renders of the levels, looking at where enemies would spawn from and hidden secrets along with the explanation? Also, could someone possibly download those files and just admire the beauty of 90's game design? Thanks in advance!!
