Dhanya ho! The Ramakrishna Mission monks and nuns badly need such feedbacks; instead, what they get is constant eulogies which they should not allow bhaktas to indulge in. Swami Adbhutanandaji (Latu Maharaj) once remonstrated with his disciple Chandrashekhar, saying, don't eulogize a Sadhu before him/her. As things stand, RKM must interact with the society in order to create a social force trying to bring about enlightenment,and not a complacent group of religious parasites, thoughtless about the plight of this great Nation, capable, if freed, to liberate mankind. Not for nothing did Thakur give the authority only to his Naren to educate the world. He ( Vivekananda) wanted all indians to be not only intellectual Kshatriyas but even full fledged Kshatriyas first-- that's why he sanctioned even meat eating, saying that "all the sin for that be mine"! Naren knew what ailed his country and his lectures to Indian students would be a comment on this.

You just become aware of being aware. “The Chicago Psychologist talks of “flow” which is an another name for Dhyana or something like that I believe, when a person is not self aware of himself and acts in total dissolution of his personality within a situation. Such an action, whether in sports or art, or turning inwards turns out to be highly creative and shines as the best of their creed. On the other hand actions done by a person highly ‘conscious of himself and keeps a ‘me and my ego’ at center stage will be effortful and are usually beset with problems.”

Thank you! It's great to hear several different explanations of what Atman is and how to "peel back the onion" I am on a spiritual, path but am currently holding myself back. I sometimes see things with tremendous clarity, but I don't like what I see... I see the state of this physical world and the politics of the wealthy that control this world. I see that I lied to, and cheated by my employers and others because I am an artist. I am bogged down with the tedium of the modern world... I spend hours on the phone (talking to robots), or the internet, trying to solve seemingly simple problems, but I end up failing. The modern world seems horribly broken to me. I have even toyed with the idea of becoming a monk ;} - Do monks have to do personal income tax returns? Do they need to spend hours on the phone trying to make the technology work so their wives and families can watch TV? ;} sigh... I could easily do without TV and even the internet, but I love creating music and visual art, and this means I need to be a part of this commercial world that seems increasing shallow and empty to me. I am in bliss with the joy of creating and the joy of learning and discovering when I engage, but these things don't pay the bills and the amount of time and mental drudgery involved with running a business in order to get paid, just doesn't seem worth it anymore...

Quantum physics which science and atheism will understand, refers to the double slit experiment which concludes that there is a difference between the observer and the observed.. Vedanta says the same... What ever you can observe in your self, your body , thought, emotions are all observed... The only thing that can distance itself from all of this is the observer... (Exactly like quantum physics postulates ) and that observer , who can see me getting angry, upset, happy etc and not be moved by any of them is atman... Do I experience that ?? That's the ultimate realisation
