I wish the place I went taught this. They taught supercomplicated 5 piece moves that I thought were so impractical in real life.

What kind of martial art was it? This isn't very effective either, btw. If you want to learn to fight, then you need to train martial arts that spar at a decently high intensity. Any martial art that doesn't regularly spar is useless. The only truly effective martial arts that you can likely find a competent trainer in are: Boxing, wrestling, Judo, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and Muay Thai or Dutch Kickboxing. There are a few other very legit martial arts but they are much harder to find competent trainers in most of the West like Sambo and sparring heavy rarer kickboxing variants like Savate. There's a few Karate and TKD places that do real, combat effective fighting and sparring but they are rare and you'd be infinitely better off just finding a good Muay Thai place. Muay Thai crushes Karate and TKD. Krav Maga is cosplay unless you live in Israel where they actually hard spar all the time. Kali and escrima and any weapon based art are also cosplay. Fun for coordination and dance choreography, but bad for fighting. But really, because you're a woman, you should really prioritize effective weapon training. As in, realistic gun self defense training, realistic knife training, and realistic pepper spray training. Then you can supplement the force multiplier training with BJJ, Judo, or Wrestling because if you ever are attacked as a woman you're likely going to need to grapple a little or push them off you to make space to withdraw and use your weapon. If you're a normal woman who isn't 6'2" with abnormally high testosterone then you will never, ever, ever be able to truly stand a chance against 98% of men in this world in a pure fist fight. You need real, effective weapons to use as force multipliers. I taught my wife up to a high white belt level of techniques in BJJ to supplement her gun work. We wrestle for funsies and so that she can keep some skills sharp because I'm 6'1" and 225lbs and it reinforces the size and strength disparity that women are going to feel when they unfortunately ever end up in a real self defense situation with a man. I also taught her some BJJ/Judo/wrestling and the equivalent of a year of Muay Thai specifically for fighting other women. Women who are prone to fighting other women are going to grab your hair and start neanderthal-punching your face. Most women just cover their face and get dragged by their hair. My wife has a whole system designed around a woman grabbing her hair. You gotta be realistic about what's actually gonna happen in real life. If, God forbid, a grown man chooses to use his full force on you, you will not be winning a hand-to-hand situation with 98% of the men in this world.

Yeah, mostly agreed. Just a short video makes this dude look like typical bullshido. But eye pokes truly are a very effective strike. I just wouldn't teach it or train it like this. I would do what I already do: Train real, effective martial arts that allow me to dominate and control positions where I can pluck someone's eyes out of their head if I want to. But I'm not wasting time drilling standing eye pokes. I'll use my time drilling jabs and straights and if I need to I can extend my fingers in a real life or death fight but realistically if I can eye poke strike from a distance then I can just straight punch you in the fucking face and more likely KO or daze you for a real finish. I can use 10+ years of BJJ to get into and dominate grappling positions where removing your eyesight would be relatively easy. But I don't need to train that. I just need to keep rolling and grappling so that, God forbid, if I end up in a hand to hand, life or death situation, then I can take their eyes from a variety of grappling positions. But it will be because I spent thousands of hours rolling real grappling sports. Not because I spent dozens or more hours practicing the literal eye poking or plucking. Naw, if I can get and maintain mount or back control or a bunch of other positions, I can just start digging until eyes are goo.

you have 5 fingers mate... (or 4 and 1 thumb whichever type of person you are) If you can't hit at least one eye you might have terrible coordination, especially since mixed martial artists do it accidentally all the time

The goal is not to to inflict the most damage to the eye, he pokes the eye instead to cause a bodily reaction and to throw you off your game momentarily to make optimal openings for counter attacks.

@@HalcyonEinaryes he did. your comment in essence was "damage is not the point of an eye poke, its to illicit a response that throws someone off their game" his response was "you can illicit the same response while also adding the benefit of damage if you just punched them in the eye instead" So why would you go for an eye poke when a punch is much more effective? You may argue that it can be faster than a punch but a punch doesn't always have to be a loaded overhand, it could be a flick jab with some pop that does some pretty good damage, and maybe even faster. Also an eye poke is easy to read and block, you can train at a gym to stop telegraphing your punches and especially jabs. Do not waste your time with Krav Maga when you can go to an MMA gym and learn to be a more well rounded fighter in the less time than it would take to become a krav maga master. MMA beats it every time and you can find examples all over youtube

@FreeSpeach5491 damaging eyes absolutely works against boxers and 'cage fighters'. What makes you think damaging the eyes of boxer and 'cage fighters' doesn't "work"? Do you watch "cage fighting" or train it yourself? Damaging people's eyes is extremely effective against literally every human with working eyes who ever lived. The problem with this video is that this is not the way you'd really want to get good enough at fighting to realistically damage someone's eyes that way. I have spent thousands of hours hard sparring real grappling arts like BJJ, Judo, and wrestling. It would be relatively easy for me to damage a boxer's eyes. It would be relatively easy to take their eyesight forever. Fight over.
