This is so real I shot an event for the first time. I was so nervous cause it was an outside event an the sun was going down. I was honestly my first shooting in low light but I made it through it and my client was so happy they book me for another event

I started shooting weddings in the early 90s and your advice is dead on. Weddings where I was"playing it by ear", "being spontaneous", had no plan always were a cluster. I quickly learned that having a plan that you'd discussed with your couple ahead of time was essential if you wanted to keep your sanity AND do the best for your client.

Everybody. Self doubt, fear, and anxiety is a reoccurring step on the ladder to success. Just don’t let it stop you from taking the next step. I appreciate you John. You’re one of the greats in my opinion. My first one is next month. People need to hear this, self doubt along with anxiety and fear are huge dream killers. People also should know that even if they crack under pressure and fail, it’s still possible to be great if you just keep going and keep getting better. That’s what I’m doing. I’m gonna do my best next month but regardless of the outcome, I’m going to learn from it and I’m not stopping. Quitting’s not an option for me, this 9-5 stuff is truly killing me inside. Some days I wonder if I’ll ever get my business off the ground, but I know I can do it even if I don’t do great at first.

I wish this video came out a week sooner. I had my first wedding last Saturday. Walked away with the feeling of “ I could have done more “. I felt a little defeated the next day but I bounced back. I know this is going to be a learning process and I’m up for the hard work ahead of me.

I've been casually shooting weddings for 2 years now, and let me tell you man, I have that same feeling every single time. It's normal. The thing is though, looking back I have had super positive feedback on every single wedding I did, except one. I wont go into details about that one wedding, but let's just say I'm not sure that anything could have made these people happy. Creatives are notoriously hard on themselves, and that's what keeps us getting better.

I done my first wedding a couple of weeks ago after a 35 year break, back then it was Hasselblads, roll film and tripods. Let me tell you I was terrified, but when I started the shoot it all came flooding back to me, and I really enjoyed it. When the couple looked at the results they we’re so happy I could of cried. Now I’m 62 my only doubt is am I too old? Great video and advice

Absolutely on muscle memory. I have two identical R6 bodies with all the same customisations so I don't have to think about anything different, and use them both regularly to document my own life. When I pick them up for a wedding, I barely think about the gear I'm using. Thanks for putting the message of confidence out there

Confindence is so key. You have to belive in yourself and what you can do. All good tips as usually #MagentaMan !

Exactly. It's hard to perform if you don't believe in yourself and your skills. I'm hoping this helps a bunch of wedding photographers.

Definitely agree, street photography is great practice in between shoots! I loved the tips, I’m still trying to get going in the business and felt like I needed to hear this. Thanks!

Totally agree John. Repetition and having a very solid plan calmed my nerves and kept me on track so much for those first few weddings. Planning even down to knowing exactly what photos I wanted and prompts for couples and groups. I would use and watching whole day wedding videos like yours prior to shooting. I still do this if I haven't done a wedding in a little while.

What really kicks away my confidence is just because i haven't seen anyone doing it, i normally juss see their results. I get so nervous about how i will make out mine and more so i shoot a lot more than i need at times and i don't know how i can stop it because i feel like okay this is the last one, this might be crucial.

Perfect timing for this video. I just secured one of my first full solo medium wedding. Small ones I’ve done, but I was nervous to do a bigger one

I feel this way for every photoshoot until I start taking photos.....then it just goes away. My question after doing my 1st wedding party, is what do you take photos of in a party?
@BuddyG2 жыл бұрын
Are you saying to come up with a timeline for the couple's wedding day? I am a bit confused on that part. Like what time the ceremony starts, what time the first look starts etc? Do you help the couple's plan out their day?
@jbivphotography2 жыл бұрын
I do help them plan out there day. But only to a smaller degree. I ask them when the majority of things are happening on their day. When does the ceremony start, when is hair and makeup starting and ending. Cocktail hour and such. And then I write a timeline within that so they know when they're taking pictures and what pictures they're taking.
