Windows screensaver images brought me here.. Never heard of Epupa falls.. Ever! Thought the images were part of the Victoria Falls, LOL! Thank you for the educational trip @5410Africa. Palm trees in the middle of nowhere in Africa! That road should be paved.. all the tourist income Namibia's getting.. what a pity!

So engaging and informative. Because of you, I’ve realized that I don’t need all the gizmos to “overland” as a Namibian who enjoys camping.

Definitely not Max, I started with a Polo Vivo and a tent many many years ago😂 most important is just to get out and enjoy it and then from your experiences buy what will make your trip more enjoyable, this doesn't always mean "the gizmos"

Baie dankie Nick. Ek was laas by Epupa in '84 as 'n troepie, toe alles nog ongerep was. Het vir twee weke lank saam met makkers tussen die makalani palms ingegrawe om die oorgangspunt teen vyandelike infiltrasie te beskerm. Beste tyd van my lewe! Fantastiese plek! Het nodig om weer 'n draai daar te maak, voor ek die emmer skop. Veilig reis!

Hi Nick, been to opuwo as well. It was the only place were i've never felt comfortable. In 2008 we fillled up as well....there was a Market behind the gas Station....pretty Scary way back then.....we left opuwo hitting the road towards orupembe......brings back memories Luv it...

Didn't feel safe...? Definitely a few scammers and petty criminals around if you mean in that sense. Fortunately, Ive never heard of anything serious happening there. But, like every traveler knows, keep boths eyes open at all times👀

Totally agree patrick. We drove opuwo to epupa in June this year( 2022) as part of a month drive of Namibia and 2 weeks south africa. Opuwo was the worst place we visited in Namibia and South Africa by a long margin. We were besieged by hordes of very aggressive beggers that we never experienced elsewhere -adults and kids. My wife and child were followed around the spar by beggars . Its a shithole with people who were very aggressive even the non beggars we encountered. Namibia was probably our best holiday ever but opuwo was just uggh. Epupa though was so nice that we stayed 3 days

How long did the drive from Opuwo to Epupa take? Google says 3 hours, but is it longer due to road conditions?
@NickfrNamibia
@NickfrNamibia Жыл бұрын
Id say 3-4 hours. But yes it will depend on road conditions, which is usually pretty decent

Quick question, I recently moved from cape town to Windhoek. I moved on Friday, so I'm literally 3 days in the country. Does one need a bakkie or 4x4 to visit these smaller area's in Namibia? I'm asking as I drive a VW polo, and I would like to explore as much as possible.
@NickfrNamibia
@NickfrNamibia 2 жыл бұрын
Some yes, some no. I'll give you a list where you can go to get you started. Swakopmund (all tar), Spitzkoppe (about 38km of good gravel), Okaukuejo camp in Etosha is tar road all the the way from Whk via Outjo, then you can explore some of the areas around there. Namutoni camp in Etosha is also tar road all the way from Whk via Tsumeb, but going from Okaukuejo to Namutoni is 140km of gravel in the park. Sossusvlei is possible, but at times the roads can be bad and it is long distances of gravel driving, rather avoid if possible. The Skeleton coast park from Swakopmund to Terrace Bay is possible by 4x2. You can go to Luderitz and Kolmanskop, the longer way is tar road. Ask if you want more info.. and be mindful with the current rains

@@marschlionoalexander8498 have you seen the IJG trails? that is for an easy after work or Sat morning. the Khomas Hochland hiking trail is the best in the area, but it is multiple days, then many of the local farms/lodges offer them ie Monte Christo, Klein Aus Vista etc

Thank you... Is palmwag-Epupa road doable with a 2x4? If you dont leave the main road do you really need a 4x4?
@NickfrNamibia
@NickfrNamibia 2 жыл бұрын
It is, but it is a long distance on gravel road. So your car will take heavy punishment, extra spare wheel maybe and/or a pump to be safe. During heavy rains it is not possible
