You are not alone on this PUA delay. I got a Letter from the ca EDD last week. It said they needed proof of identity since they could not match social security number. I looked at the top of the form and the ss number shown was not even remotely close to what I had entered on the form online . I even checked a copy of my online application and I had entered my SS number correctly, so clearly there was a biug in the PUA online form. I looked to see how to resolve the issue and it said to include a photocopy of my CADL and a copy of my social security report. I did this and mailed by priority mail which showed received last Saturday. So we'll see how long it takes to see a payment? Still waiting on my small business EIDL too. What do they expect us to pay our bills with? Monopoly money?

Exactly. I was stopped at the same spot. My first application was filed March 20th....I downloaded a pdf file application and mailed it in. Got only a number a month later, nothing else. Was told to reapply, did so April 29th. So far, not a dime. It’s June 5th.

I applied for UI on March 29. They allowed me to quickly certify for that week and the next within a week or so. On April 6, they drafted a letter asking for proof of my independent contracting wages, but the stamp on the letter shows it was not mailed until April 16. Not too surprisingly, the letter stated I was required to submit the information by April 16. I received the letter on April 18. This must be the "penalty" weeks they are referring to. Are we going to be penalized for submitting the information "late" when they submitted it to us too late? I also emailed them when the forms were 20 and more days late by mail but never got a response. This seems to be a scam, just like the "stimulus" money. They took my work from me because of AB-5 but won't provide unemployment. I would rather just write more articles 35 hours a week. I need the government's rules out of my life. I need to eat and carry on.

No, penalty weeks are actual Ui benefits paid out that should not have been. Now that people are getting unemployment again, a penalty week is a week that is used to get that money back as a form of deduction from that weeks payout. If you never got paid anything then you don't have to worry. You do not owe any money. There are lots of people who are contractors or self employed that got a letter saying $0 wages and $0 benefits to be paid. You will not get a penalty week as the weeks go by as nothing was ever paid out. There was no fraudulent activity going on. You just need to apply under PUA and not the regular UI which we all did before the PUA was set up. Everything will be fine after that.

Everything you received you must always ck postmark date and note date rec'd cuz even the post office is delayed in delivering mail. Everyone is affected by this bug.

@@dextereng3167 In Texas, there is no specific PUA form on the website. The only way I was able to get PUA was to make about 80 phone calls back to back until a phone 📱 operator picked up. :-)

Is there a PUA portal website for California? Or do you still just apply through regular EDD online application?

Just the regular UI Online application site. .....I wish there was a separate PUA portal....but nope

@@benjaminmann6963 make sure you select 'disaster; yes' and look for coronavirus 2020 in the list of disasters. if you don't you'll be applying for UI not PUA

I exhausted my maximum benefits on 3/8/2020 and am unable to claim for new unemployment until 8/ 2020, there's no link in my current claim to apply for the 16 week extension signed into law nor does it provide a link to the PUA federal extension. I made a new account and filed a new claim (which contains the PUA application in later pages) once i entered my social security and personal info, the system will matched my records from my previous claim and automatically denied eligibility. I don't know what to do at this point. Any information. will be extremely helpful. Am I one of those considered to be in the "penalty weeks"?

I watch edd director on u tube few days ago and she said for claim with exhausted benefit from june to current, the 13 week extension will be automatically processed auto startin may 27 and notice will be within 5 to 7 days. Keep a watch, the should also backdate your claim to week after your benefit was exhausted,( unless the rules have changed covid 19 changed a lot of rules including our life & life style) Dont give up if you have questions write them, if you can not get thru phone, keep copies of every letter document you sent. Keep on top of your claims until everything is in place. Cuz the system could have dropped you to never never land when cuz the system crashed. I've seen that happen b4 when edd was implementing a new program back in 2004.

@@savagedragon79 even for that the claimant still has to file an extension if there is one in place. Unemployment insurance has a from the beginning date of claim to expire and if there is extension of benefit before it ends, time wise (bye-benefit year ends) the claimant has the right to file for extended benefit.
