The hardest part for me with these exercises is connecting with the anxiety on command, I feel like I’m programmed to keep it at bay/controlled where it can only be brought out through specific talking or it happening on its own. Even when trying my best to connect with it I don’t feel the activation I usually feel when it happens throughout the day on its own. This is also why I’ve found EMDR difficult.

It's not uncommon for people to develop mechanisms to keep anxiety and other distressing emotions at bay as a way to cope daily. This protective measure can make it difficult to access those feelings on command during therapeutic exercises. Your self-awareness and understanding of how your anxiety manifests are actually very valuable in your healing journey. Sending you much needed warmth and healing ❤️❤️🩹❤️

Hi Dr. Kate: This is a coping mechanism. with repeated practice, do you think the subconscious mind will adjust and start feeling safe?
