I also used this twice - the reason why I stopped using this was 1st - not too frequent updates and the main reason why I stopped using this - there is no way to my knowledge to create a backup of your setup! -> this is a no-go

I would disagree. There is recent update to support Debian 12. Also for the backups, you need to set your own backups via RSYNC or you can use server snaphot feature from your provider. Already deployed hundreds of VPN servers for my customers and never had any issues :) But if you prefer traditional VPN, it's your choice, but I would give it a try again.

@@webnestify concerning rsync, what Files should bei synced? I once wrote a backup script in my own and tested it. It worked. One year later, the same script failed. I so not want to re-test my backup script each month. The vps snapshots don't help either If in want to migrate to a different vendor

Great tutorial series. Thank you! Forgive my noobie question but why is it important to have a self hosted VPN for my agency. What are the benefits for my clients?

Well.. My whole business is with security best practices in mind. VPN is really good for securing port 22 which is meant for SSH & sFTP connection. You can lock it down to your VPN IP and offer secure tunnel for your clients to connect via sFTP. Those small things offer tremendous value.
