I think there's no denying that a youthful appearance is appealing to us all. It definitely isn't the definition of beauty but it draws us in. You should 100% learn to feel comfortable in your own skin and learn to feel beautiful without it " all ", BUT we can't judge until we are in certain situations ourselves. I'm still quite young so it's very easy for me to say, nobody needs anything we're all beautiful, but when we start aging as women we start to struggle internally, and I just think until we're there we can't judge older women. Strive for the best for yourself and your health! Never do anything that doesn't truly feel well and potentially will hurt you. Great topic Sammi! We're all still soo young already worrying about getting old because of the society we live in where looks matter soo much! Loved to hear your thoughts ❤

i disagree w that tik tok you mentioned. if we truly loved our natural selves, that would be revolutionary! all the products and treatments and surgeries exacerbate our insecurities. imagine seeing someone who has the same “imperfection” as you, but they’re living their best, fullest, unbothered life?? THAT is revolutionary to me. i struggle w this just like most humans. but i would much rather live in a world where ppl forego surgeries and instead rock their natural faces and bodies. it always always always makes me feel comfortable. and fwiw, your youthfulness has less to do with how you look and more to do with how you feel about yourself and the life you’re living.

Dude how are we always in alignment? This is exactly what the podcast episode I am working on is about also sparked by the movie the Substance!!! I guess we are all at that age. I can’t wait to listen to your takes.
@sp-ff1pt2 ай бұрын
i loved that The Substance spoke to the violence that women deal with when confronting their bodies. I used to purge for years and deemed it as "punishment" for eating "too much." (re: the chicken drumstick scene) reconciling this is an ongoing journey... it was so poignant that the only time Elisabeth felt truly liberated was when she didn't have a body in the end

We do live in a patriarchal society and all the judgements we impart on yourselves come from that source for sure, but I’ve been noticing as I’m aging that it’s the videos on reels etc that are constantly focused on how to prevent aging with this skincare or that tool, or procedure, whatever it is, that makes me focus and worry about aging even tho I am literally so young!!! How would I see myself if it wasn’t for this barrage of content online about how to prevent aging? I doubt I would be as worried about it. So I need to refocus and rewire my algorithm because I clearly feed into it. And that’s one of the themes from this movie that was so striking for me- take aging as a glass half full and enjoy what you have while you have it. If it wasn’t for all these videos online telling you how to prevent aging, it would be much easier to enjoy the youth I have now, the youth I’ll still have when I’m 40, 50, and so on. Because when we’re 80, if we’re lucky enough to get there, we will look back and think it was such a shame that we were so worried about aging at like 30, that we didn’t enjoy how lovely we were until we looked back.

@@Roxor54 This is soo true and I’m so grateful someone else can see this too! We are soo young some of us in our 20s/30s/40s literally panicking to point it’s almost historical, because you’re right, when we look back when we are 80yrs old we would have wished we enjoyed that present version of ourselves because we are actually “ young “ and don’t need be worrying. Hope you, me and all the other girlys watching this grow and learn to truly love ourselves ♥️. & you’re right - what is right in front of us we will focus on, so we need to make sure it’s all good 🧘♀️!

Also, one thing I think is unfair is that getting enhancements, procedures etc is a privilege, and like you mentioned, beauty is a currency…there’s going to be a lot of people left behind because they don’t have money to have these things done, it’s just going to create more disparity.

Other issues for me is mainly ALL THE INDUSTRIES WOMEN SUPPPRT PRIMARILY PUT MONEY IN MENS POCKETS. It's hard to feel like you're against patriarchy while supporting the mass make up industry, mass cosmetic industry and mass clothing industry. These are things we should consider.

I just watched the film the other day and I found it super disturbing and powerful. I’m about to turn 27 and whilst I know that I’m still so young I’m starting to notice that I am aging and it’s crazy how much that has an effect on you. I thought the film really highlighted this. But equally I’m terrified of getting any “work” done (even Botox) partly because I hate needles but partly because it changes who I am. And I think the film does a really good job of showing that actually sometimes if you change yourself to “look younger” or whatever it is you’ll end up wanting to go back to the way you were before. To me the film was saying you should appreciate who you are now. Another thing I found really powerful about the film was how so much of the pressure to look young comes from men. It never ceases to creep me out the way that some men just prey on young women. It actually made me feel sick watching the male characters drool over incredibly young, half naked women who could be their daughters🤡

This may be a stretch and not what was intended, but I keep thinking about the "Remember, you are one". I feel like it could not only be interpreted as your young and old self are one, and treat yourself with compassion, but also we as women are one. Young women and old women are often "at war" with eachother, when we have all been or will be at both sides of the spectrum.

I really want to watch the film now, thank you Sammi! A stiff face looks less youthful than a face with wrinkles to be honest, being objective. And some procedures make you look the same as everybody else, like there is a way of looking that is ok but the way we were born was wrong? Maybe it’s just that we want to control the way we age, like we are actively doing something to avoid it, but end up looking a bit not human and spending money, time and energy in the meantime. At the end, we all got one body for us to love, so

the scene you mention at the end was really powerful to watch - in fact i felt so frustrated watching it and wanted her to just go out as she was obviously from an outsider and objective perspective i thought she was bloody beautiful. It definitely provoked intentional thought for when i am getting ready to go out. Love these videos Sammi! love hearing your thoughts. X

Aging gracefully is not about letting yourself go and not caring about yourself, it's quite the opposite. I haven't always loved everything about myself and that's ok too. When people get these 'touch ups', it makes them look a little uncanny and actually a lot older. Do what makes YOU happy :)
@nnuusskkaa03Ай бұрын
Hi Sammi, Thank you so much for recommending the film-I’ll watch it soon! As for getting beauty treatments or procedures, I genuinely believe everyone should feel free to do whatever makes them happy. If the option is there and someone wants to go for it, why not? That said, in my case, as a teacher (and not someone whose work depends on appearance), I’ve never felt much pressure in that area. I’ve also never been into wearing makeup daily-I only use it occasionally, like on a Saturday night if I’m going to a party. Sometimes, I even go out with no makeup at all, and honestly, I feel great that way. It’s in fact fascinating to notice how different I look with and without makeup, but at the end of the day, I’ve never had any beauty procedures done and don’t think I ever will, even though the thought has crossed my mind a few times. I just want to stay true to myself, free from worrying about other people’s opinions. I like myself as I am, and that’s what matters most to me. Lots of love, Anna

Hi Sammi, being that people talk so much about breast enhancement sickness and how you mentioned you don’t like have a foreign object in your body, would you ever consider removing the enhancements? No shade or pressure just curious if you’ve given that any thought, why or why not?

From most of the examples we have(sammy from jersey shore, kristin from laguna beach) and the observations of 21 year olds using filler and botox I've come to the conclusion that I'm not touching my face or adding volume to it if I ever do anything it will be a facelift at 50 or late 40s. I look at my moms face and I don't see anything wrong.

saw it today because it came out this week in France (which doesn't make sense that it came out so late here since it's a french film) and i loooooved it so much, FINALLY some good body horror like in the 90s that goes all the way and doesn't "stop" too soon in its ideas and what is shows (with an exception for the great Antiviral from 2011), i'm so happy it's from my country as well of course, and also, everyone clapped at the end cause everyone loved it and it was such a beautiful moment, it was the first time something like that happened and kinda made me emotional in a way since i love going to the theatre so much

Injecting your body with stuff like that worries me. Also, getting work done doesn't make people look younger, they still look their age. The eyes never lie. I know people my age who have had work and they look my age still lol. Everyone doesn't get it done. Out of friends and colleagues, I think 2 or 3 have. People age and when you have nothing to show for it, it's absolutely obvious you've had work. Just wear spf and embrace the laugh lines. Life's too short. We're lucky to be here so let your body and face show that.

I loved all your rumbles! 😂 I haven't watched the movie yet, but I can relate to some of your observations. Society places a lot of demands on women as if we are expected to be perfect in every way. However, when we try to meet these expectations, we often face criticism. It makes me wonder if we can ever truly fulfil what society expects of us. By the way, you are gorgeous, so keep doing whatever you want 🥰

I also thought this film was thought provoking and it shows how complex and contradicting our relationships with our bodies can be. It also makes you wonder - when we invest in beauty are we investing in our confidence and in our social currency, or are we being sold our own perpetual insecurity, or both? I also saw a film called A Different Man earlier this week with similar subject matter that was also thought provoking in a slightly different way but would def recommend that film too

If u like your appearance, it makes u a more overall happy person, so do whatever makes u feel better. I get filler & botox at 45 yrs old. Been doing that for 6 yrs now. I will look into a mini facelift as I get closer to 50 bc I hate to see my sagging skin, esp around my jawline. I'm childless by choice so I don't have to contend with how that affects my kids.

I think if you’re getting it for a genuine reason is okay, but if you’re influenced by the net telling you to start getting Botox at 20 to prevent & so on, & so forth. So what’s best for you.

Damn if you damn if you don’t. We are living in a society where everything is superficial. Look over anything. Everyone is obsessed with ageism. Everyone is obsessed with some many things race gender “equality “. It won’t ever stop unfortunately that’s part of the human spiral and demise imo.

Love this. I’m the same. I go in and out. Skincare is always my focus but I had my boobs done as I was totally flat and am happy I did that. Thought about a nose job last year then realised I was doing it to be like an instagram filter and at that point I had a realisation that I was changing rainbows. It’s hard as I work in a medical & aesthetic clinic so I completely get why people love treatments and I think I come full circle and think it’s a whatever is best for the best for the individual but what they want deep down not to be like anyone else. ❤❤
